Where does all this magnesium go?

Hey all,
I take multi vitamins on feast day to cover for my fast days since my stomach doesn’t like pills when empty.
I was wondering what these guys do, specifically magnesium.
Do the go down the blood super highway to save the day then die off in a viking pyre out the bladder?
Do they get tagged back in by the lover to fight another round against the Agents of Insulin?
Do they go with what happens when you take too much magnesium. Those who have, know.

Just wondering if we know what happens to the batmans of the vitamin world.
Thanks.

Most of our bodies’ magnesium is in our bones, some is inside cells, and a little - not that much at all - circulates in our blood. Kidneys get rid of excess by excreting it into urine. If levels of magnesium are low, the kidneys excrete less - that’s the way it’s supposed to work.

Definitely cannot live without magnesium - it figures into literally hundreds (if not thousands) of regulation systems in the body.

I am a newbie keto person, but I got a magnesium suppliment. What I am doing is working. I don’t know exactly why, but your post was very helpful. Thank you

Thanks, Ida. Definitely still learning here - it’s fascinating “how we work.” There are magnificently choreographed systems of moving things through cellular membranes and capillary walls.

The balance of things is of upmost importance, and thank goodness that most of the time we function just fine on “automatic pilot.” For cells, blood, minerals/electrolytes, there are three zones - inside the cell, outside the cell and also outside the capillaries (tiny blood vessels), and then inside the blood vessels, where the blood plasma is.

The latter two are where most of the dissolved salt - the sodium and chlorine ions - are, while the interior of the cell has most of the magnesium and potassium.

Another way, it’s a laxative. Milk of magnesia?
