Hi all, I haven’t posted in a while because I have just been tinkering with keto. Trying new things. I have been trying a little intermittent fasting, shortening my eating window. But when I do that I don’t reach my calorie goal for the day. When I first started Keto I actually had to increase m my food intake because I had not been eating enough calories. I researched and understand the science. But when I am doing a short fast I get to the end of my eating window and some days I will be 500 calories short. But I am not hungry! I decided to listen to my body and just didn’t eat. But I know I saw someone post that they still hit their calorie goal while eating one meal per day. So am I doing this wrong? I am fat adapted now. I have still been slowly but steadily losing weight. So do I have to always eat all my calories?
What if I am full but have not eaten up to my calorie goal?
You already have your answer. Don’t eat (or over eat) if you aren’t hungry. Forget about counting calories as long as you are sated and still losing weight. It’s all about the carbs.
Repeat the Fung Zen Mantra
Eat when hungry
Eat till full
Don’t eat when not hungry
That said, I did spend Jan-Apr 2018 fasting and feasting. While I did not track calories at all, my n=1 strategy to repair metabolism was to eat just a tad more than when full. Like a few mouthfuls. Macadamias or a bag of pork rinds. Net result - 0 weight gain/loss since February. However 4-6” lost in pant size. And I feel totally juiced all the time. I think my body is running better. Feel awesome. NSVs galore. Visual appearance, clothing size, comments from others, shoes and rings getting looser etc.
Now, started an indefinite EF 4/28, and the weight is peeling off. 10# in 5 days. While the body is showing no signs of slowing down. Beard growing normally, nails growing faster, alertness and clarity.
No science that I want to quote behind my plan - just my N=1 results
Now I will just complete current fast, then go on a 3 days fasted, 4 days feasted cycle to lose the remaining 60 # to goal weight. As long as it takes.
KETO for LIVING
KETO for life
Eating until you are not hungry is letting your body figure out your calorie goal (versus what some website, expert or calculation comes up with).
If you are subconsciously fooling yourself (i.e. ignoring hunger pangs) for the sake of weight loss, your body will let you know. Metabolism will slow, you’ll feel tired etc.
But if those kinds of things are just fine all of the time and you are losing weight and not feeling hungry - that is a good place to be!
Thanks all. Just making sure I was reading my body correctly. Not use to listening to it. So far I feel like I am doing pretty good with my new lifestyle. Just wanted to make sure.
