What do you drink?

(Jason) #1

Part of my reason for being overweight is the amount of calories that I drink. Basically I drink too much pepsi.

I am 4 days into this diet. So far I have had nothing but water. What does everyone else drink for some variety?

(bulkbiker) #2

Coffee, tea, water.

(Tricia) #3

Coffee w/hwc and water, water, water!

(Jason) #4

what is hwc?
Normally I drink coffee in the morning but I use french vanilla creamer. Is there anything that I can use to get a similar taste?

What do you put in your tea?

Can we use sweet n low?

(Maha) #5

HWC is heavy whipping cream. I used to use French vanilla creamer, but it’s pretty sugary so I gave it up, and it was almost an equal amount to the coffee. Once you’re fat adapted, you won’t miss the sugar.

I drink coffee with hwc, tea, water, sparkling water and flavored sparkling water. Sometimes I put cut up fruit in the sparkling water.

I would avoid sweeteners of all kinds, especially if you’re just starting this way of eating. It can stoke the sugar cravings and spike insulin. But if using sweet n low will help you stay compliant, then go ahead, but I’d try to go without sweeteners for at least a week, then try going longer, and keep extending it until you don’t crave it. When you do have it, you may find it’s not as satisfying as you’d once felt or it may make you sick. Both are deterrents to avoid sweeteners in the future. I now enjoy sweet bell peppers, the sweetness in cucumbers and some cherry tomatoes. It’s the limit of what my body can manage and not get sick. But every person is different, and you have to determine what works best for you.

A lot of water with lemon and electrolyte mix. Some low carb drink mixes. A daily Zipfizz. Morning coffee. Afternoon tea.

(Allie) #7

Water. Coffee.
Sparkling water. Maybe sometimes with flavouring.

(Ron) #8

You can use hwc and add a couple drops of vanilla extract.

Drinking Pepsi/Coke/Sprite is death. Heavily sugared water. Don’t drink that. Or fruit juice. . .

(Heather ) #10

Coffee, green tea, water and White Claw seltzer- because it’s summer and I enjoy an alcoholic drink on my deck or laying in my hammock.

#11

Water, Seltzer and Coffee… very rarely i’ll make a diet root beer “float” with a bit of heavy cream…that’s a great treat! but i’m pretty basic otherwise

(Lonnie Hedley) #12

Coffee, water, Zevia.

(Erica Ramirez) #13

We drink water but also crystal lite (we use 1 serving for 3- 17oz bottles), MIO & I am now in love with sparkling mineral water. It’s probably because of the sodium or whatever’s in it… its just so refreshing, I can’t get enough! I also get La Croix and other lightly flavored sparkling waters - they don’t have a sweetener and my whole family drinks them.
And my fave!!! (I don’t buy them for the house) but for a treat now & then when we go out to eat, I have a Diet Coke (my past addiction lol)

(KCKO, KCFO 🥥) #14

La Croix waters, herbal teas, green teas, black teas, decaf and caffinated coffees, water with mint and/or lemon slices add for infused water.

I gave up pepsi and all other soda/pops about 15 yrs. ago. Take the money you would spend on pepsi and put it in a savings jar so you can buy some new clothes when the weight drops off. It kept me motivated. I am so happy I kicked that stuff out of my life. I tried a diet soda recently and had to just throw it away, I can no abide the stuff with or without artificial sweeteners.

(Troy) #15

Coffee, water, iced tea, zevia ( w and w/o caffeine Cans )
And an ACV concoction everyday

I will add lemon, cinnamon, turmeric, and ginger to the above, depends
An occasional liquid stevia add in sometimes. Not as much any more

Oohhhh…and the occasional energy drink…I’ll try them all
Low carb / no sugar
Yes, I like to live on the EDGE:boom::rofl:

(Jason) #16

In the OP I said I have had nothing but water. Yesterday I had some Kool Aid spray stuff, like MIO. no calories, no sugar. It uses Sucralose. Is the issue of using sweateners that they will make you crave more? Or are there other reasons not to drink it?

(Steve) #17

Yeah, artificial sweeteners have 200 to 400 times the insulin provoking effect as sugar so the brain will expect something sweet but won’t get it so it’ll nag you to go get more sweet. Get up off the cave floor and find some berries, now! One of the shopping challenges in keto for me is finding things to add to water that have no sweeteners.

Cold turkey works for some, but causes some to throw their arms up in the air and fail. Make your personal progress toward sweetener reduction and possibly elimination. Don’t let peer pressure make you drop that Splenda in your tracks, let your curiosity about health teach you that you probably don’t want to pick that Splenda up in the first place.

I forgot the add the other thing I drink, wine. I refuse to give up wine and chocolate, and it has worked for me.

(Jason) #19

I read that while on keto alcohol can make you drunk on less and quicker. Have you experienced that?

(Charlotte) #20

Vanilla-flavored liquid stevia is great, sweet n low is basically poison.

Some folks will tell you to avoid sweeteners altogether in the beginning, but it really depends on the person. If I hadn’t allowed myself stevia and erythritol-sweetened things in the beginning, I never would have made it past the first week of keto eating. I am now five and a half months in. I used those sweetners very frequently in the beginning, but naturally started using less and less as time went on. I still use stevia in my coffee, but now it’s often the only sweet thing I consume all day. So see what works for you–if using some keto-friendly sweeteners helps you stick to keto, go for it! If using them makes it harder to resist giving in and consuming sugar, definitely avoid them.
