I’ve been learning a lot about genetics and found the epigenetic (I think that is the term) very interesting. It is the information on the outside of genes that are influenced by food and other environmental factors and are passed down generationally. I hypothesise that this is how our health had been degraded by the high carb unhealthy fats and other life stressors.
I’m still learning the basics and genetics is very complex and multi dimensional.
What did you learn today?
I learned the USA does not consider lynching a federal crime and a handful of folks are working to get that changed. I hope they do and while they are at it, work out something about immigration reform. We really need that problem addressed.
I think the Dems missed an opportunity during the shutdown to make the deal of agreeing to give “President” Pissgate the funding for his LEGO Wall in exchange for granting amnesty and citizenship to all “illegal” immigrants currently in the country. And then he could have fun trying to get the Lincoln Log Wall built for the next ten years he’d be in litigation courts.
I learned this about crows today. Magpies are also very smart and can recognise up to 30 faces and know who is kind to them and who is not. Not food related, but I think it is very interesting.
New life goal: Have a raven say about me, “She cool,” to his friends.
Eric I suffered a broken hip in 2014 and people are the same with people on crutches. I’m sorry, humans are crappy😔
I learned today that i am so lucky I never experienced any type of abuse from men (close and distant relationships). I watched the r.kelly documentary and read an article on the #metoo movement, or the lack thereof, in my country…
Thanks @dlc96_darren. I’m still learning the rules here.
Hey, that’s what I learned today.
I also learned how to make Fat Head pizza dough. Yum. And how to use embossing paste to make fluffy white clouds (or glittery ones) on cardstock.
How to set up outlook exchange on my phone so can check work emails again (given how low tech I am that’s pretty big for me).
Correct!
OK, this is a very simple thread premise - what did you learn today (keto or otherwise)?
I learned that when you have a surprise party at a Chinese person’s house you have to put all the shoes on the balcony or all the shoes at the doorway would give it away.
Can’t survive in China without a balcony. The washing machine is out there, and it’s where you hang your clothes to dry. If you have a really small place, the kitchen may be out there too, at least in the south. It is not fun to cook in the winter.
Would the flip side of that be, if you went to someone’s house, and there were no shoes out front, probably a surprise party inside?
I suppose that only works if you’re assuming someone should already be home.
I learned that if people around you are talking loud enough, noise-canceling headphones don’t.
I learned that before Country & Western music, there was country music and western music. Country included hillbilly music, often with Irish roots (fiddle tunes, etc.). Western music was popularized by singing cowboys in movies.
Country & Western music was not allowed in our house when I was growing up. I was thrilled to discover Hank Williams and Patsy Cline when I was 19, and Bluegrass music shortly thereafter. I love pre-crossover (basically pre-1970s) C&W, as well as certain throwbacks such as Bakersfield.
Apparently Gene Autry’s first starring role was in a combination singing cowboy/science fiction serial:
Patsy Cline - excellent.
I still contend that the best voice most people have ever heard/will ever hear is Dolly Parton’s.
Dolly Parton may be a national treasure, but the Country music genre is just unfortunate all around and never recovered from post-9/11 nationalism.
