What did you learn today?

(squirrel-kissing paper tamer) #1066

Who cares if it’s good for the bees, butterflies and hummingbirds

(Empress of the Unexpected) #1067

I still have sunflowers in February! The bees are going crazy.

(Running from stupidity) #1068

Well, if they’re your bees…

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #1069

It’s an interesting process. There’s a very instructive video on YouTube.

I never really got into the biology of it until recently, because I want to keep chickens myself. But one of my mother’s brothers-in-law had an egg farm for many years, and my sister and I would help our cousins do chores whenever we visited: gathering, washing, grading, packing, . . . we helped with it all.

#1070

That Australia does not have the weirdest animals - not while Shoebills exist :open_mouth:

#1071

Australia does have crazy animals, but there is one case where the American version out-crazies them: the opossum

#1072

Our possums are cuter than a bug’s ear but they’re the bane of my life. They’ll take one bite out of every fruit or vegetable you try to grow. One bite

(Hyperbole- best thing in the universe!) #1073

I will not stop laughing, thank you.

(Keto Travels) #1074

Well last week I learned that there are WAY too many people attempting to supply me with free food of the non-keto variety … so the plan of "eating lazy keto only when someone else pays for it " needs a SERIOUS emphasis on the KETO bit!
Why is it that when you decide on such a strategy it’s suddenly 3 people’s birthday on the same day, and at least one person’s birthday or a conference every other day of that week? Seriously!!!

(Jane) #1075

It’s the same phenomenon of installing an irrigation system for your lawn and it rains every week all summer.

Or buying a really cool telescope and all the nights are cloudy except when the full moon is out.

(Hyperbole- best thing in the universe!) #1076

:notes: Or a free ride, when you’ve already paid. :notes:

(Keto Travels) #1077

I tend to carry an umbrella when I don’t want it to rain :joy:

Maybe I should start carrying pemmican so people don’t offer me food?

(squirrel-kissing paper tamer) #1078

WHAT is it doing to that duck?

(The amazing autoimmune 🦄) #1079

Eating it is my guess☹️Poor little duck.

I learned today that shoebills eat young water birds.

(squirrel-kissing paper tamer) #1080

That’s what I thought. Where did that monstrosity of a dinosaur even come from! :open_mouth::open_mouth:

(KCKO, KCFO 🥥) #1081

This is so true, Aussie possums are pretty and fun to watch.

American ones, always glad to see another bite the dust and OMG they smell SOOOOOOOOOO awful. They are just nasty critters anyway you look at them. Growing up in NE Texas they were everywhere.

Armadillos seem to be common there now, rarely saw one as a child. My last trip there, not so many possums as armadillos on the roads.

#1082

According to the story it was helping it across the road :face_with_raised_eyebrow: Sounds like something my grandpa would have told me…“That wombat on the side of the road? Oh he just keeled over with joy sweetheart”.

(John) #1083

Yesterday I learned that doing what should be a simple update on a complex system that SOMEONE ELSE BUILT can go horribly wrong, even though last week when you did the exact same update on the same kind of complex system that you built yourself, it goes perfectly well.

Today I learned that bird seed can cost more than human food when you buy the good stuff at the fancy bird seed store.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #1084

Funny! With me, it’s the opposite. I’ve done very well updating other people’s code, but my own? Not so much. Argh!

(squirrel-kissing paper tamer) #1085

Bless your heart. You’re living my life now.
