What did you learn today?

(Running from stupidity) #985

Well, it’ll be both if you only send her one point per email, hopefully.

(Heather Meyer) #986

So true… sadly… Just because i can swim like a fish in a pool doesnt mean i can survive a lap of running! And while my weight trainging has improved my pool workouts… it sure hasnt helped my dreadmill runs

In hindsight I shouldn’t be surprised. I’ve always been a better sprinter as opposed to long distance. Even when I was in high school at peak fitness I was never good at anything over 200 metres.

(Hyperbole- best thing in the universe!) #988

I think @juice means the content of the email should only have one point. If three questions need answering, respond with three seperate emails, one answer each.

There was only one question!

This week I learned how to set up, run and maintenance a printing press I was previously afraid of. Now I love this old Heidelberg. It reminds me of a gigantic clarinet and has made my life so much easier…

Cool!

I am amazed at the old timers who thought these letter presses up. I went to school to learn offset printing so I learned on newer presses. When I came to this company I got my first experience with old timey letter presses. I first learned on an old Kluge from the 50’s. The moving parts are simply amazing.

This is where I work:

I also learned that this site makes edits to my posts and I don’t understand what prompts them or what is actually being edited…?

(Alex ) #995

today I learned that some days I actually put more physical and mental effort into procrastinating about going to the gym, than the actual effort I put in when I’m
fucking
there!

I keep seeing eggs being mentioned in all of the posts about gastroparesis here but even those are hard for those of us with gp to digest. The test to get diagnosed with gp is called a gastric emptying study and you have to eat a single scrambled egg with radioactive powder sprinkled on it after you’ve fasted for 24 hrs. They then take imaging immediately after to see how it travels down (so they can see if there are any blockages, etc). They re-image an hour later and measure how much has digested. If more than a certain amount remains then they re-image 2 hours after that. If more than 75% of one scrambled egg on an empty stomach remains undigested after 4 hours you are determined to have gastroparesis. Personally I had 90% still remaining and even a “meal” that small that stays that long in your stomach can be felt. I swear it gets heavier and heavier over time. I’m also having major issues with this diet for digestive reasons, but need the other many benefits of it so I’m here hoping there are maybe some tricks to make this easier and more tolerable. I was successful years ago and KNOW how good my body feels on it, however it was before my series of brain issues/surgeries which led to my permanent neuro issues. So my gastro, unfortunately won’t be reversing as if it were a typical neuropathy.

SO MUCH

It’s being “helpful” in its usual unhelpful and retarded way.

If you quote an answer fully - because, say, it’s a one-liner and you need the whole thing for your response to make sense - then it has an attack of the vapours because you quoted a WHOLE POST and so it removes it.

You can stop it doing that by modifying it slightly - remove a full stop or add a space, say - but that’s idiotic when you’re quoting someone. (I add [s][/s] somewhere in the quoted text which changes it invisibly, but I’ve got a macro to type it out for mer).

It’s like the from designer software coders have never seen a forum before. One of the whole POINTS about forums is that you can quote posts that are non-contiguous and so you need to be able to quote what they said in order to respond sensibly.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #998

They are probably more accustomed to how things work on Facebook, or worse, YouTube, where responding at all sensibly is strictly forbidden.

I learned today that I had 20kg to lose…it sends shivers down my spine. I weighed myself this morning, 64.3 kg, and I believe I was at around 85kg at my heaviest (winter weight after I quit smoking). I guess “naaah, only a few kilos” was a lie I told myself for a very long time… I stopped eating cheese 2 weeks ago, histamine intolerance kicked back in, and I lost about 1.5kg since. I think I need to get back to macro tracking, maintenance should be my priority now.

(Running from stupidity) #1000

I guess that’s one of the problems with being 120cm tall…

One current theory is that life only exists because the universe is moving into a disordered state (or something like that, I’m not a physicist).

(Keto Travels) #1003

Yesterday’s thing I learnt:
The exact conversion rate from kgs to pounds is 2,20462262185
Explains why I kept getting things slightly wrong all the time with the *2,2 I was taught to use - very happily leaving things to calculators now instead of having to rely on them because I am “not good at maths”.
Today’s thing:
My new diet after doing my accounts and looking at what I can’t afford to do this year if I don’t take drastic measures is “Eat lazy keto when someone else pays for it, otherwise fast.” :joy: That means only hotel breakfast Tuesday to Thursday is guaranteed to be keto friendly. I may or may not get lucky with airport lounge/plane food and Friday office lunch. I may or may not be lucky with business lunches/dinners. Lots of fasting ahead, yay! I really think last week’s EF while working normally helped me break through a mental “I can’t” barrier there.
Weekends are interesting … luckily for me I have always loved the challenge of “let’s see how long we can go with what’s growing on my balcony or can be found in my fridge (which to mind looks rather empty), freezer (tiny) and cupboard (one with 2 shelves).” I was a little worried I wouldn’t get far with that on lazy keto, but it’s amazing what deliciousness you find once you get over the “I am out of eggs, bacon, avocados and cream - I will surely starve!!!”. So far had
kale with onions and bacon, linseed/sesame seed porridge with plenty of cinnamon and butter, a sort of tuna pizza (giant cheese crisp base), more porridge, and coming up is a tuna-tomato sauce over spinach, with some shaved parmesan
. Really so not suffering! I might actually run out of greens soon, since nothing is growing on the balcony at all yet, but I have a ton of seeds for stuff that can be grown as microgreens, so I started some today - the cress at least should be ready by next Saturday. So with a little planning and lots of IF looks like I can make it to mid-March at least without having to buy a thing or having to resort to olive oil straight from the bottle - or worse, the paleo-friendly protein powder still lurking somewhere at the back of that cupboard!
Really brings home the learning that my problem tends to be over-abundance, not scarcity, not even scarcity of eggs and bacon!!!

PS: Love this thread!

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #1004

I think this is true for me but with so many variables I’m not 100%.

A week ago I cut way back on coffee to initially 1 1/2 cups from 6+ a day. (black only). And since then continued to reduce my intake each day. Yesterday I had my last 1/2 cup. No headaches.

I do drink tea (green, oolong, earl grey) but my tea intake has not changed.

4 lbs lost in 1 week from a multi-week stall and 3/4 inch of waist reduction. Was I sensitive to coffee? Don’t know but with a blood draw in two weeks I wanted coffee out of my system to see if TG go down a little. aka the Feldman protocol.
