What did you learn today?

(Running from stupidity) #965

It was indeed awesome

My wife really does think we’re all crazy in here

A delicious salad composed mostly of spinach with very little meat protein does not keep one full. Even with 2 tbsp of goat cheese and a tbsp of bacon bits… i was hungry 30 minutes later…

I always have a side of protein when I eat a salad. My salads are arugula and baby spinach with small pieces of olives and some smoked blue cheese crumbs. Usually 1 tablespoon of EVOO.

I like my protein on the side because I like the taste of meat and I like salad. Feels like I’m having a heartier meal.

ā€œassessā€

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #969

I learned how fasting eventually helps reduce essential hypertension. The kidneys control BP and it is called insulin dependence. Fasting reduces insulin and the kidneys will eventually cooperate and lower essential hypertension. It is briefly mentioned around 31:30 in this video.

If you have an indoor-outdoor cat, be aware of ā€œsignalsā€ during a rain storm.

#971

That the lights on my vacuum sealer can be a migraine trigger.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #972

What is a vacuum sealer - you mean for food?

#973

Yeah

(Carl Keller) #974

It’s not good for my pillow and bedsheets either. I tend to drool when I sleep on my stomach. :stuck_out_tongue:

Carb-loving vegans probably bought those so they could burn them.

I believe @atomicspacebunny says she shovels snow in flip flops. #bunnyfeetFTW

Mark Twain would approve:

Anybody can have ideas–the difficulty is to express them without squandering a quire of paper on an idea that ought to be reduced to one glittering paragraph.

Great books are weighed and measured by their style and matter, and not the trimmings and shadings of their grammar.

Substitute ā€œdamnā€ every time you’re inclined to write ā€œvery.ā€ Your editor will delete it and the writing will be just as it should be.

(Lazy, Dirty Keto šŸ˜) #975

Also true :joy:

#976

We had a cat that drooled really badly - we had to buy a waterproof mattress protector :stuck_out_tongue:

(Wendy) #977

Mostly. Still had to go to work but it really wasn’t a big deal for me. Sometimes it’s more news for news sake than anything-unless you are in a situation where you don’t have safe warm shelter of course.

(Alex ) #978

I agree, you can always rely on the news for some wide scale scaremongering!

This week, I learned that if you fall off the wagon, it’s pretty easy to get back on and get back into ketosis. So don’t beat yourself up if you slip up once in awhile. But if your slip ups become a trend & a habit, then yeah, that would be a bit of a problem that you’d want to take care of.

I learnt that just because I’m at my goal/maintenance weight, doesn’t mean I’m fit.

I tried going for a run around the block with my 15 year old son and needless to say, he left me in his dust a few times…I was puffed! Been doing a lot of strength training recently but definitely need to try to improve my endurance.

On the upside, I did notice I recovered a lot quicker from exhaustion compared to before when I was 20kgs heavier.

Aha! This thread was at the top of the list - I’ve been chomping at the bit!

I re-learned two things today.

One - some people skim emails, even though they have asked for important information. Then, they email you over and over asking for the same information, which you provide with every request. I got to the point I was forwarding my previous emails which supplied the information, in a succinct manner - nope, the lightbulb didn’t go on. I think I am in real trouble with this person, as far as future dealings go.

Two - my cat is a princess (duh!). Since she has become an indoor-outdoor cat, she loves to sleep all day on the bed - but only if it is neatly made. I was lazy this morning, and broke down and made the bed tonight (for us or the cat?). She sat and watched me, and when everything was to her satisfaction, she jumped on.

(Running from stupidity) #983

One point per email for these people. It may not solve the problem, but it’s a good way to start.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #984

Hers or mine???
