Weight gain at 2 months in

(Dee Eichler) #1

At 6 weeks I lost 12 lbs. At 8 weeks I gained 4lbs. I know it’s not possible to have eaten so many calories to gain that much. I thought is was water but still have that weight a week in. I am struck on keto with 15net carbs, 77 protein and 96 fat. With 1240 calories. I am 68 female with no real exercise other than walking my dog. I stoped artificial sweetners but I do tend to go over my protein by 20g on most days and maybe 200 calories on some days. Do I need to be that strict with my macros? I never go over carbs. Do i just need to be patient? I register 0.8 on my keto mojo. Start weight Nov 22 218. After 6 weeks. 205. Since then 209. Any suggestions???

Try for 0 carbs for a few days. Eggs, meat, lettuce, oil and black coffee

Not home

How would a person keep carbs at 0? Total fat?

fatty meats are considered zero carb, even though technically if you piled on about 10 eggs it might be a carb or two (don’t quote me on that exact number). It’s just that the carb is so negligible. So staying away from veggies, nuts, and seeds, which do have fiber-carbs, is basically following the zero-carb process (and including your added fats like you normally would).

I during 64 oz water but no electralytes cuz I dont pee much. My energy is very low. Never hot the boost that everyone talks about. I dont think there are hidden carbs because my carb are mostly veggies. Is that right?
Can u give me my macros if I give u my stats?

As others have already said, check for hidden carbs. It’s not the extra 20g protein or fat.

I was fine first 6-8 weeks, I thought this is so easy, could do no wrong. But then some hidden carbs finally caught up with me.

They will be hiding in plain site. Something you thought was OK but is not, in my case the amount of milk in the coffee from the cafe. I thought it was coffee + water + a bit of milk. Nope. It was a lot of milk.

I didn’t have any obvious signs, no sickness, I just happened to notice the blood analyser was showing ZERO. (0.2 or 0.3 mM), thought it must be broken. I stopped losing weight. And I rechecked and rechecked everything. I gained 2lbs that week, the meter wasn’t broken.

Dr Phinney says “hidden carbs are the most common issue”. He was right about that.

There could be other things, like fighting an infection or something? That can knock ketones down.

And of course secret woman’s business (hormones). Or severe stress or lack of sleep or … but before digging ourselves into a big hole - we must eliminate the most obvious things.

Anyway I reckon triple check every food item. Maybe try another app get a 2nd opinion.

My target weight is 150. I have my bloodwork done often. I do have heart problems so I am on beta blocker. Water pill. Thyroid pill, had cancer. Cymbalta for osteoarthritis and zoloft for the recent loss of my son. I cant get off these meds right now but what else can I change. Also what electralytes dont taste like the ocean

Dee, you have a lot going on (based on the list of your meds). You have age against you, too. Personally, I think you need to give it more time. Since keto is supposed to work on hormones and health first, the weight loss can take time.

That’s coming from someone who had to put the scale away for a while. We all want to see weekly weight loss, but if you have other metabolic issues, you might need to gauge success in months or other NSVs for a while.

I had a feeling my health and age will work against. I will be patient and put the scale away for at least a month. Thank you

Nullify

Good idea!

(Dee Eichler) #16

Oh, you dont know how badly I want that. To feel his touch would cure me of everything

I changed my app macros so I will let u k ow how it goes in a few weeks. I try to use 2 tablespoons of mct oil per day. Good???

If I could lose 1 lb a week for a year I would be excited about keto. #keepontracking

Dee, I noticed you take Cymbalta. I was prescribed that in 2012 and put on a lot of weight fast. When I did research I learned that not everyone has that side effect and those who did were suffering from intense evening sugar cravings. I wonder if I would have gained had I been on keto. My point is that even with the meds I think you still have a shot at losing weight, but that it might be slower. Stick with it and my heart goes out to you during your time of grief.

Thank you for your kind thoughts

Weight loss is not linear. There will be ups and downs as body adjusts. Mine has been 3 steps forward, 2 back. But 9 months later I am 80 pounds down. Timing of when you weigh, post bodily evacuations and getting full night sleep all affects scales. Hang in there!
