Weekend Treat

#1

Coffee with whipped cream. I am celebrating I got on my new compression tights as yesterday I picked them up in my pharmacy, and they’re comfortable!:slightly_smiling_face:All they required were gardening gloves, and a lot of patience. Celebrated with a new lovely dress also, because life is too short. That’s my new motto.

Scrumptious pork belly for dinner today. Weekends are for treats, in my humble opinion. What is your weekend treat?

#2

I made whipped cream

But the chicken heart and liver stew is special too. And I LOVE freshly fried pork shoulder

So it’s a very nice day eating wise.

Glad they’re comfortable. I always wondered what they feel like. I always have cold hands and feet due to my low blood pressure and those socks are supposed to help. Maybe I’ll give them a try.

And hey, I treat myself every morning, to 3 cups of coffee with heavy whipping cream.

Hi Shinita. Freshly fried pork shoulder is delicious. I actually made whipped cream because my little boy wanted a bowl of it, so I made enough for both of us, and then I thought let’s keep this as a weekend treat🙂I have never tried organ meats, but I’m sure I will one day.

Hi Robin. Life is definitely better with whipped cream:slightly_smiling_face:The compression tights I was prescribed is Sigvaris. They’re a company in Switzerland. The tights are really comfortable now, but this morning when I put them on, they felt really tight. And the process of putting them on, I got them over my toes, and boy that was tight, but I followed the advice of the lady I saw at the lymphedema clinic which was 1) Don’t roll up the tights. 2) Use gardening gloves and inch them up a tiny bit at a time. You certainly need a bit of patience, but following that advice, it wasn’t that hard. You have to get the sock over your toes, then use the gardening gloves to get your heal in place. Then proceed with the gardening gloves to inch up your hose, and also use the gloves to smooth out the fabric. Now that sounds a bit of effort, and it was, but let me tell you, I am feeling positively bouncy. Varicose and also poor blood circulation, I imagine, can make the legs feel heavy. I’ve had heavy feelings legs for so long, but with these Sigvaris tights on, I find myself running up the stairs.:slightly_smiling_face:

The lady diagnosed me with secondary lymphedema (bilateral lower leg swelling), the beginning changes of lipoedema, and varicose. I have booked treatment at a private veincentre to treat the latter.

Organ meats are pretty much impossible to avoid here unless you are a vegetarian from birth or something  We have quite a few traditional dishes with organs. I wondered about it in the carnivore thread today (?) and realized that heart is the only one I find tasty, no matter what the animal is (if it’s among the few I tried this far, at least). Good stuff  I understand liver may not be to everyone’s liking as it tends to be very strong flavored and somewhat bitter, I often mix it with other things myself.

I try to minimize cream too, it doesn’t go so well this far, my SO and I eat 200ml cream almost every week… Well, it’s not that super much so it’s fine I suppose… I am aware some people eat way more than that…

#7

How long do you need to wear them? As I read this, it seems I helped with the same thing when my SO’s Mom got her hip surgery, her legs already was swollen, it’s a chronic thing for her. It wasn’t easy to put on those socks at all and after the surgery she couldn’t do it by herself.

Nice dress!

Hi Shinita. Without gardening gloves you’d struggle. My mom has lymphedema (chronic swelling) on one foot and varicose, and she really ought to wear compression stocking, but she doesn’t like it. However, since sharing with her my approach, with the gardening gloves, she is feeling more positive. As to how long I have to wear mine, well NHS tends to, when you have varicose, say for the rest of your life, 24/7. I’m gonna take that with a pinch of salt. But as I am having my veins treated at a private vein clinic in March I will be requiring to wear compression anyway to aid healing. But those compression stockings the vein clinic gives you are only temporary, for about 2 weeks. My mom reccommends me to wear the Sigvaris compression at least for a few years so my body can find new pathways to direct the blood. So I will certainly do that. And then, later on, perhaps when needed.

Thanks for the compliment about the dress, I love it too, and the price was reasonable.:slightly_smiling_face: Though I buy way too many dresses and I wasn’t going to be treating myself to any more. But the detail of the dress, it was just so gorgeous, and persuaded me.

Prime rib is my weekend meal

#10

Hi Chuck. That is certainly delicious. I love a good piece of fatty meat, and will be having pork belly today, which is my favourite. But I can’t go through a single day without cream, it seems. Life feels plenty luxurious when I have both.

I was advised to lower my fat intake a little and to increase my protein intake. My problem I love everything dairy. Growing up on a farm with cows, pigs, chickens, a huge vegetable garden, and large orchard with, peaches, plums and figs. I have managed to stay below 50 total carbs now for 5 months and finding for me it isn’t that difficult. But we don’t eat out much, but with our cruise coming up the last half of February i and wondering how I am going to manage my meals.

#12

Yes, it’s a very very nice pattern on the dress

#13

Hi Shinita. Yes it is. I have to show it more in detail.:slightly_smiling_face: I have a penchant for pretty patterned dresses.

#14

I love dairy too but it wasn’t very hard to limit them. Giving them up would be tough, I like the variety, the creaminess, dairy is so very different from both meat and eggs… But eating them in moderation and not eating cheese or cream for several days sometimes? That’s no problem

I need to lower both my protein and fat intake. It’s not so easy unless I carnivore satiation kicks in and it seems it just did! Phew. It was hard to be very hungry for a while… Fatty meat works wonderfully now
Cream was problematic due to the fat (and being not satiating due to the negligible amount of protein) but now I am good at minimizing it so I can eat it if I fancy it. I refuse to open more than one box a week so I have creamless days but it’s not so hard. I don’t miss cream, per se but I fancy some dessert every day, be it a nice egg milk or my fluffy eggy dessert and both are WAY better with cream… So in a few days I end up having cream again. Now I am careful and try not to eat it up my share (about 150ml) in 2-3 days…

@never2late: It’s fun as those not so obvious things resemble leaves and stylized fish schools too  But because of the flowers, they are probably leaves…
I love nice patterns a lot too. I have a very comfy olive green shirt with feathers on it, that’s fabulous (as I remember, I don’t even look at it normally just enjoy the softness), it is a few decades old and refuses to have problems despite me wearing it a lot

#15

Shinita, I find like you that giving something up, like cream, is too hard. That just makes my body feel deprived. But cutting down and moderating, that is something I can easily do and it is what my body is happy with. I ate the same amount of cream in total today as I ate yesterday, but it was more fun because I brought out my beloved jar again and shook it till a whipped cream texture🙂

Yes, it isn’t just the pattern on a garment that’s lovely, but the feel of the material too. I love the softness of a fluffy winter jumper. Oh, and satin. I love my floral satin blouse. As to prints, I love leaves and flowers. And bold animal print. Speaking of animal, my pork belly smells like it is getting ready.:slightly_smiling_face:

I am sure I could give up cream very easily if I knew it is good for me (as long as I can keep sour cream and the others. it would be missed somewhat as it’s nice but it wouldn’t be too tragic :)). But without a good reason I just can’t restrict myself too seriously. So whenever I do an unnecessary challenge like no dairy, it never lasts long. And a very big part of it is mental. As soon as I realize it’s so needless and I have just a tiny inclination to eat the food I planned to stay away from, I just can’t do it anymore while I definitely very easily could if I had a good reason for it.

(Chuck) #17

I don’t eat anything the same daily, that way I enjoy it when I do have it. I don’t drink coffee, I do drink unsweetened tea at dinner sometimes, I am drinking water nowadays, something I had to force myself to do at first. I was raised to eat a wide variety f different foods, and to this day that is still what I do. I find it boring to eat the same thing over and over. We do have leftovers but we freeze them when we can and have them at some other time. We seldom eat at the same restaurants even.

#18

Hi Chuck, we all must do what feels right for us, and if you desire a variety as you are used to then it might well be that is right for you. Me, I love the sameness and the simplicity. I tend to eat the same everyday. Cream, certainly. Some fatty pieces of meat. And cheese. I don’t really desire much else. I have my almonds in the morning, and my broccoli florets on the weekend, although today I didn’t fancy them. But my SO is like you, used to and desires variety. It is whatever works for you.

#19

I didn’t really see a good enough reason either for quitting dairy. As I feel fine on it. I deal with a few minor side effects of my Tamoxifen, I am really lucky, I read about women who experience far worse, and I attribute how well I feel to keto. Before keto I was battling chronic inflammation, muscle and joint pain. So I’ll have my dairy, I just won’t go overboard with it. Whipping it to cloudy delights weekends, just enjoying it poured into my coffee on the week days, is my plan. Because of course, if it’s whipped, I’ll eat more of it.

My delicious snack of pork belly. The usual table cloth was swapped for a Tomas the tank engine covering today, as my boys have been having fun with the play doh🙂

@cvkemp: Variety is important for many, I still need too much of it, I love simplicity but didn’t reach what I wanted yet. But it gets better. But I realized that it’s good to base my carni days on a pound of meat and like 5 eggs, it’s a cute base and I can add other things in moderation (or in big amounts if I am hungry but that should be meat unless I desire eggs, meat is more satiating and my goal is minimizing all my macros)… With the same timing and similar eating (different items but similar macros and satiation effect) every day I wouldn’t need tracking so much… Sadly, my eating vary too much :frowning:

But leftovers are very welcomed by us  Eating something for 5 days? A dream that only sometimes comes true… Of course it’s just the base for ONE course of one meal, we have plenty of variety for the other zillion courses of the day. But we have our favs we can eat a dozen times a week  That’s nice.

It is always the same with me

It may be a tad strange that I LOVE pork, I half-live on it but I never buy pork belly. Well it’s too expensive for its fattiness (I want meat for my money or at least something super delicious like smoked boiled pork jowl… but I could boil pork belly myself… we will see)… I have better options. And I overeat fat anyway though nowadays I embrace overeating fat if it keeps me from overeating protein. It rarely happens, I started to have days with both macros over 200g… I am just so hungry… I never had it on carnivore (or close) before.
