How are you doing? Pain still there?

Chicken wings are my pub night delights. As a matter of fact, I have a meeting tonight so that means pub wings!:yum:

I have been having some difficulty with hunger if I let my fat fall too low, so I have been adding fat to everything. However, in the past few days I’ve noticed that I haven’t been quite as hungry, so I’m wonderimg if a little more protein and a little less fat is working better for me.

Anyway, continuing on with the ZC experiment. Feel my electrolytes are in better balance, and my BP has come down a bit as well. So, I’m feeling quite good overall. My weight is starting to come down slowly, and I’m hoping that once I lose those few extra pounds that I gained over Christmas, that I will also be able to break through my long-standing stall. :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

Actually, thinking of adding ADF to my ZC experiment next week. Or maybe the week after. LOL! So hard for me to voluntarily give up eating.

(Tracy) #343

Me too. Carbs I can banish no problem, but keeping protein down has been a struggle for me too. I haven’t tracked for awhile, but I was struggling to keep it below 80 back then.

(Tracy) #344

I wasn’t built for 133 either. If I’d been born in the old country, I’d have probably been a human field plough or part of the East German Olympic shot put team or something like that.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I have fought “tooth and nail”, as my mother used to say regarding voluntarily choosing to give up eating. I have been eating this way (keto) a year now, and I have been gradually working on getting my mind to appreciate the great value of fasting.
I see posts from people who get so excited they made it 12 hours without food, and I say to myself “I do that every day without thinking, and much more.” My last meal is usually mid to late afternoon, then I don’t eat again till the same time the next day, or occasionally late morning if I’m hungry then. I realize I am fasting an average of 18 - 24 hours every day. I realize I am a successful faster after all. How did I finally wrap my mind around this? Well, I didn’t. It just happened when I decided to adopt the keto lifestyle. MOST of the time I only eat when I’m hungry, and I stop eating when I’ve had enough. Eating this way has created it’s own healthy pathway of intermittent fasting. Bottom line, just give it time. Hopefully you’re not as hard-headed as I am. :grinning:

Thanks Jo, I can’t even imagine at this point being 1500 calories. I may get to that point but right now, that would be a starvation diet for me. I’m with you and being done with being hungry all the time and fighting to not eat.
Tomorrow I am trying my first fast, I’ve done the 16 hour fast and I’m ok, I didn’t die! I’m adding a few more hours and see what happens. My son had been visiting and there was just too much food here. I’m feeling overstuffed and slow. Bleh…Wish me luck!

(Karen) #347

@joan1 - Going on a 4 day. Coffee, HWC fast. 400 cals fat so not a purist. 36 hours in. Good luck!!
Adding some lightly salted ACV water too.

Day 4?! Wow. It’s crazy how my whole body goes into panic mode about not eating. I’m surrounded by food, there are stores on every corner, I have money to buy food but sheesh, I feel panic about not eating for any length of time.
What is HWC?

(Karen) #349

Heavy whipping cream soooo fat in my coffee. Also using Monk fruit drops for sweet. Doesn’t spike insulin. Not a water fast, but ok for me for compliance. Will be at 48 by 8 pm. Wish me luck.

(Joan) #350

ah…HWC got it. I am trying coffee with MCT powder and butter this morning. Trying to cut out more carbs, it’s ok, I can live with this. Even with fasting I am not giving up my coffee in the morning. Not yet anyway…
Good luck, that’s awesome!

(Karen) #351

Well here I am at 60 hours in my baby ( not water alone) fast. Headache this morning. Drank lots, added salt, but need more likely. Wish me luck.

(Joan) #352

Thanks for the fat fast link Karen, I’m going for it today! I’ve done the Dr Oz detox fast for 3 days but now I see that it was all carbs. No wonder I couldn’t keep that up.
My son and his GF went home so now I can get back to regular eating and we won’t have all that extra carbs in the house. They eat a lot of popcorn, which is no wonder he grew up eating lots of popcorn, that was always my favorite snack. That was hard :frowning:

(Jo) #353

Good for you Karen!

Apologizing in advance for the long-winded post! And I didn’t even catch all the things I’d like to comment on.
:innocent:
I’ve been sneaking in here & reading and “liking” but didn’t intro myself. I’m 63, can’t remember a time when I didn’t battle my weight, now 7 months sugar-free, grain-free and keto. NEVER going back.

I can SO identify with this! LMAO!

EXACTLY! @richard calls it “N=1” - you are your own best test subject! Some of the most important insights into this WOE have been made by brave and brilliant souls doing N=1 testing. Many of them frequent the forum!

I made that mistake already. I was staying under 1200 calories and plateaued AND not in true fat-adapted ketosis, either. Two times I increased my calories (by adding fat), and two times the scales started dropping again. I’m eating at least 1300kcsl/day, sometimes 1500 depending on how long I’ve fasted. No gain, modest loss. My metabolism is starting to recover. DON’T FEAR FAT. EMBRACE THE BACON. :bacon:

Is today your fast, or is it over? How did it go?

OK, I’m done! I’ll check in and actually comment more often. KCKO.

(Karen) #355

OK, past 72, and more water. Salted everything. Looking forward to breaking my fast, but last time ate fried eggs, sausage, bacon, and whoops, lots of sauted peppers and onions. Pretty much cleared me out. Will do bone broth for a few hours this time.

One more day. :innocent:

Hey Beth, I binge on them and I am old enough to be their mother…What a sad little life I must lead…lol…

(Tracey) #357

Hi Lorraine, I do the 16/8 fasts most days…Have yet to try for 24 hrs…I am still finding I haven’t completely lost my sweet tooth yet which is a bug bear let me tell you…I did loose it initially but have found it again…I dont have anything with sugar in it in my house but I do have stevia sweetened chocolate and I make ice cream with xylitol…Maybe a 24/48 hour fast would do me good in that respect hey…I just have to get my head around it…

Hi, I am a new member. Was eating keto, fell off the wagon, started back up a while ago and doing well. This time, in order to lose weight I am trying mini fasts from 2-4 days scheduled weekly. It just seems like too much work even on keto to keep track of what I ate 7 days a week for a puny 8 ounce loss, with the fasts I see more results and during my non fasting days I don’t have to watch what I eat as closely. I try to keep carbs under 15/day.
The ‘falling off the wagon’ was an experience I can look back on now to make keto a permanent way of life, I remember large carb intakes and still feeling hungry a few hours later, never again.
My plan is to continue the 2-4 day mini fasts until I reach my goal, and then to maybe fast one day a week so that I have more calorie flexibility for the rest of the week.

#359

I think that is a useful approach. I do lazy keto (no counting but making sure that carbs are low) and IF and EF whenever I feel like it. I still want to drop pounds and doing mini-fasts are a great tool.

Done with day 1 of the fat fast, I fully expected to be white knuckling it by now and counting the time till food, but I’m ok and thinking I’ll try adding another day. I decided to weigh myself this morning just to get a before fast weight and with all the crap I ate while my son was here I’m still down 1.5 lbs. I didn’t expect that at all. Yesterday nothing was showing on the keto sticks, but I’ll try later today. So far I’ve only gotten trace amounts on those things, so we’ll see…
Have a wonderful day everyone!
