Urinary Question

#1

I was wondering if this was the norm? … As I’ve mentioned before, I drink a lot of water each day. (at least 1.5 Gallon) But since starting Keto 8 weeks ago, the one thing I noticed is that my urine has been constantly on the darker side since starting. - Before Keto, it was usually always light, due to the amount of water I drink. (Except mornings of course, when it would be a bit darker, but would lighten as soon as I started taking water in)

But now, I’ve noticed it’s back to being light. Actually very clear today, and pretty sure it was like this over the weekend as well, when I finished a 72 hour fast Sunday morning?

Now the only things that have changed since I started Keto, were 1) the fast itself, being my first & 2) I started using KetoAide, per @Brenda recipe my second day in, which was Saturday.

Would the addition of those supplements in the drink, allow for this change? It’s the only thing I can think of really, since nothing else has changed. - But I even mentioned to my wife on a few occasions that I found it odd my urine was staying so dark, and just thought it might be an effect of doing Keto itself? … Just thought I’d ask, hoping someone might have some insight.

Thanks

Darker means you were still under hydrated (beginning Keto} and have now caught up and are more balanced (lighter). Your good now.:+1:

Why do you drink so much water?

#4

Yeah, that’s why I was asking, knowing it shows dehydration and all. But it’s been mostly like this for the entire 8 weeks I’ve been doing Keto? And I mean, I drink a lot of water. … I believe I’ve read the target amount is about a Gallon, I believe? I’ve been way over that, especially weekends.

Not sure, Mike? It’s pretty much all I’ve been drinking, with the occasional cup of Tea or Coffee. But as long as I have it with me, I’m constantly re-filling the bottle? - Mostly when working in my yard at home, and I do sweat a whole lot too.

But I’ve always have?

I’m just surprised you’re not flushing out all your salt and electrolytes at that volume.

Dunno? I very well could be. (I actually didn’t think of that either) Thanks! Will have to look into that some I guess. Unless someone here might have knowledge in this area?

I can say that I have been using Keto-sticks since about my second week, and it’s always shown me in deep color, except the two weeks I tried eating lunch and dinner. (still under 20g, but two meals) Then I was showing medium/moderate. But when I show in the darker color, I see better weight loss. So I’m pretty much doing the one meal a day, and actually prefer it too.

Thanks again, Mike.

Drink to thirst, not an arbitrary target.

Don’t worry about the color. I know I’m hydrated, and the color still varies from dark to light. It may have something to do with what I’m eating and what minerals are or are not being excreted. Since I feel great, and have no symptoms except when I forget to keep up with my salt intake, I don’t worry about it.

One interesting effect of ketosis (for me, at any rate) is that it increases my bladder capacity. I can go for longer without urinating (it’s really nice to sleep through the night!), and the signal is not nearly as insistent until I really need to void. On the rare occasions when I have overdone the carbs, I returned to my old pattern of small quantities, urgently needing to be voided frequently.

Thanks Paul, that sounds logical. - And yeah, I think I’ve mentioned that before too, but since I’ve switched over to this WOE a few of the things I’ve noticed when it comes to urinating is the length of time between having to go, sometimes 3 to 5 hours apart. Also, in the past few years before switching over, the urgency to go was a lot more frequent and urgent as well. (I attributed it to the drinks I was drinking, mostly a lot of coffee or Tea, but a soda here and there as well. But as soon as I felt the urge, I mean I had to find a restroom quick. And lastly is the pressure of going itself, which at times felt pressurized.

But agree, It is a welcomed change. Thanks
