Ultra-processed foods? Sure, why not!

It’s especially entertaining when mainstream headlines like this come out on the same day…

“These ultraprocessed foods may shorten your life”

CNN: https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/01/health/worst-ultraprocessed-food-early-death-wellness/index.html

“Diet that limits ultra-processed foods isn’t automatically healthy”

UPI: https://www.upi.com/Health_News/2024/06/30/ultra-processed-foods-study/1211719608864/

I guess both conclusions are possible at the same time. Then again, studies like this always crack me up anyhow.

Hmm…Healthy Eating Index score. I quit reading after that.

Good call.

Well, I wasn’t totally truthful. I looked it up first:

Then saw this:

Then gave up.

Edit: That fatty acid calculation is … bonkers. Beef is mainly MUFA, less than 50% sat fat, but closer to 1:1 MUFA+PUFA / SFA. Nowhere near 2.5 to 1. Dairy is mainly > 50% saturated fat. I guess you don’t eat those on this diet?

Edit 2: Dairy includes … soy?

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #6

Well, why not? Walter Willet says pizza counts as meat, because people sometimes put pepperoni or sausage on it.

But where is the almond milk? That’s dairy, too, isn’t it?
