Two weeks in with some weird observations

#1

Full disclosure, I watched a Youtube with Dr. Jason Fung about fasting and dove right in, the next day I started a 7 day fast which ended up being a 5 day fast. During the fast I was researching autophagy to take my mind off of the fact that I wasn’t eating, after reading The Obesity Code I realised I had to Keto my diet. This led me to the 2 Keto Dudes podcast which I am very thankful for as it got me through 5 days of fasting. So far I have done two, 5 day fasts and eaten once every 24 hours on the other days. My interests lie in the benefits of autophagy not weight loss.

I have had some interesting observations, the first being when out walking I thought I was getting swooped by birds, but as it turns out they weren’t swooping me at all, I suddenly developed the ability to hear their wings flapping as they flew overhead, something I hadn’t experienced unless I was being swooped.

Even stranger, bees and wasps are suddenly mistaking me for a flower, trying to pollenate me orally. The first time it happened I screaming and ran whilst flailing my hand about–not my most elegant moment–the second time I thought ‘now, that’s a coincidence’ but the third, forth, fifth, and sixth time freaked me out.

Other notable observations, I am bruising a lot, currently I have 15 bruises on my legs coupled with a rash that doesn’t irritate me, it’s just unsightly.

My hair is thicker, a nice little bonus.

Saving the best till last, the floaters in my eyes have virtually disappeared (it’s been worth it just for this, reading has been very difficult as one of the bigger floaters was right in the middle of my field of vision, but now poof it’s gone).

Just curious if anyone has any insights or similar experiences

Wait… You did a 5 day fast straight up? Without being on keto first or being keto adapted? :astonished:

In the kindest possible way, are you sure you didn’t ingest anything a tad odd whilst fasting?

This sounds wild! :joy:

Very impressive, but pls take care and go easy on yourself. I understand if you want autophagy, I assume you’ve read up on how to optimise that?

If you don’t have weight to lose, then pls do make sure you eat well after your fasts. Do you mind if I ask what weight you are right now? Do you have sufficient fat? Dr Fung does not support longer fasting for anyone close to “standard” weight.

I have done a few 3-4 days fasts, and many (about 80) 36hr fasts. I have not experienced any of the symptoms you describe above, I just got faster’s high! Felt fabulous!

Anyway, main message, be careful, stay safe, go easy. You’ve got plenty of time to fast. It is not a race.
Cheers
Alec

A very long time ago there was a man who I became acquainted with he was a retired U.S. Marshal, he told me about something that really startled me, about something that had happened to him that changed his life, to make a long story short he had been tracking a man in the wilderness but had got lost himself, for weeks and he was starving to death or more like in a fasted state, but what was so interesting about his story and why I remember it so well is because he was crying while telling it to me the whole time, …while in this fasted state he said he could look directly into the eye of a bird from miles away in a pine tree and it was as if he could see through the eyes of that bird, he described it as if he had telescopic panoptic vision like he has never had before or thought that was even possible. He continued, that he had one of those pocket Bible in his pocket and he would pause a lot and cry as tears rolled down his face while telling this part in particular to me he said: when he started verbally reading passages it was as if text on the pages of that little Bible where visually coming out of it every time he flipped the page it went through his body and into the air above his head and shot out into the night sky and that he did not even have to read it to understand it or verbalize it…

I read about similar experiences later in my life but was quite intriguing to hear it in person! Could be hallucinations but then again we can’t see the air we breath but it does in fact exist or we would not be here!

Fasting and near death type experiences have some kind of conduit into the spiritual realm…

Really fascinating?

Yeah, not the smartest thing I did and I do regret having jumped straight into a fast without getting into ketosis first. My first fast was rough compared to the second fast which was a completely different experience. Interestingly enough during both fasts day five was when I hit a wall and had to stop.

#7

No idea, lol. I started wearing a face mask during my walks and it seems to have stop the attraction.

Thank you from your heartfelt post, and I do understand I dove into it heart over head first (one of my personality flaws). I am still learning and understanding everything fasting and keto–getting smarter every day. I wanted to be honest in my post even though I did the wrong thing.

You are right about my weight, when I started I was 55 kilos and dropped to 52 during the first fast, I then ate well and replenished what I had lost, I lost the same amount during the second fast which I just finished yesterday. Again plan to replenish. I am not planning another 5 day fast for a while, reverting to 24 hour intermittent fasting which I find perfect for me.

Wow, that’s really is fascinating.

I’m fascinated by the spiritual quality of these experiences too, but wondering if the wasps and bees might be attracted to the acetone on your breath? (byproduct of ketosis).

My hearing got sharper after a couple of weeks, in a way that I can clearly hear music better and nature sounds.
My skin is more sensitive now in a nice way.
Less need for my sunshades and I hardly used my hay fever pump this year.
Unfortunately, I can hear my neighbours more and workmen digging up the road

(Alec) #12

I think you need to be especially careful here. I would not recommend you do long fasts as you will have low bodyfat. Have you discussed fasting with your Dr? I recommend that you do.

Take care.
Cheers

@Alecmcq Thanks Alec, I am planning a visit to my GP next week.

@BellaTella Nice to know I’m not the only one with a heightened sense of hearing.

Not so much the ‘wrong’ thing as much as it was impressive, lol.

Yeah I would say more dangerous than anything else, read up on re-feeding syndrome before taking fasts past 48 hours. The actual act of eating could possibly kill you if you electrolytes get out of whack.

(Chris W) #16

Acetone

When in ketosis you produce acetone this can attract the bees, flies and wasps.

Most hilarious thing I’ve read in a while…

#19

@In2steam So I guess I’m definitely in ketosis! Thanks for the clarity I suspect as much.

#20

@In2steam Thanks! I read about refeeding syndrome and I prepare by drinking soda water during the fasts as well. I probably won’t do another 5 day fast, it takes a lot out of me. I think I will do 3 day fasts at most.
