Twelve Days of Carnivore!

(Daisy) #101

I hope you feel better! I was fighting something earlier this week, but it seems to have passed. Yesterday, my appetite spiraled out of control! I had the platter and the egg shake. After the egg shake, I got a little bit bloated and a little intestinal distress, but honestly nothing like I’ve experienced in the past, so that was a plus! But a few hours later, my mind was buzzing over food, bad food, any food. Just obsessing. So I went and got a couple little pads of butter. Then I made my family hot dogs and there were 2 Nathan’s dogs left and I ate those. Then I went and got a fage 2% fat unsweetened yogurt and ate that. I still wasn’t satisfied, but since it was over 3,000 calories for the day, I said “NO MAS!”

So I think I’m still not ready for hwc in my diet. I did get a large container of it so I may try it again in a couple days (for the purpose of why I bought it), but I’m going to stick to steak and eggs today when I get hungry. I have the whole rest of that wagyu roast to eat
when I started feeling the feelings, I know I should have just eaten more of that, but the voices in my head (tell me others hear/listen to those voices… :grimacing: ) wouldn’t let me :joy:

I’ve started making ghee and using that for steaks because it has a higher smoke point than butter. It’s great.

Cool. that is a good way to cook a steak! I find tho I don’t like that bacon grease taste anymore, just me…but yea I did that in the past and it is worth the spit right? :scream:

hey we got a new thread happening in Jan. for the new year…if you are leaning and in the right frame of mind to tackle zc, come on in and join us!!

thanks and feeling better after just eating down a bunch of pork I had left in the fridge…I wanted food and it made me feel better…so far so good on not feeling crappier, just yet

OMG KD! I could have written that word for word what ya went thru. I went thru it many a times. You are ‘wanting something’ and not meat, like just friggin’ anything and of course we want SUGAR! but then we eat a little of this, little of that, try some of this and some of that and in the end, we ate a ton of stuff BUT IT WAS ZC stuff so you did fab on that!!! As long as we hold plan any way shape or form we got it made LOL But that monster inside us all can go insane literally, but you make sure you eat very well today…that helps bring us out of that kinda crazy  While not great for you, it was nice to read someone went as nutso as I have some days HAHA but ya got thru in good shape!!

remember too you can freeze that hwc if needed for later.

A drop of olive oil stops butter burning. Xx

(Daisy) #105

Ohhhh I did not know that! Excellent!!

Also good to know! Learn something new every day and today I learned 2 things! :purple_heart:

@Ketodaisy

yea my friend would freeze it in tiny ice cube tray and then bag it up and when she wanted one would plop it into her hot drink or if needing more, defrost as many cubes as she needed. I never tried it tho, I stopped hwc when I basically stopped making my beloved homemade alfredo sauce. I just lost a taste for it now…who knows that might come back in play later for me and I will buy hwc again.

Well I had a great result … was meant to be working g yesterday on an early shift but was asked if I wanted to trade it for an extended shift on Thursday and take a rest day … snapped his hand off lol then went to work today as it is my weekend in and managed to toul off the afternoon so got home about 1pm Yay

So being home early gave me a good opportunity to put the beef brisket in slow cooker, carve the chicken i roasted yesterday and put the carcass on to boil and make stock. The last lot was beautiful and went down a treat.
Today has been chicken, rabbit and cheese with butter and garlic pepper ( my pack up for lunch) and this afternoon ate the little mature and medium cheddar cubes and chorizo that was also in the pack up. Followed that later with a bacon and cheese omelette.

Here was my meal, I stuffed myself to the max and ate every bite of that roast! For reference, the beef I ate yesterday was that tiny missing front corner…
also on today’s platter was bread cheese, liver pâté, beef fat, and eggs. Oh and a little sausage patty my daughter didn’t want from her breakfast sandwich.

It’s being a normal human, it’s very little fluctuation, perfectly normal. Your body holds more or less water for some reason.

So you are normal, I am the abnormal one with my super stable weight… Even my eating doesn’t matter. Well if I massively overeat, I may gain a little very temporarily but it’s very hard to do and way more carbs are needed for it than what I ever want. So nope, my weight is always the same in the morning, on and off carnivore alike.

Wow. Really? Well it’s better if I respect my hwc bags and boxes and do coffee-free times instead  I bought little coffee cream for emergencies because I won’t overuse them due to package, I don’t want much garbage so it better last for many months… But I opened the milk we have since weeks… And I don’t actually like milk, my body even less so… Alvaro will consume it next week, no problem, I barely use any in my coffee but it still shows that coffee drags non-ideal things into my life again and I better just stop drinking coffee…
It went so well in the first half of November, I can do it again. But when it comes back, it’s not that easy to skip it again and now I have coffee, it’s easier not to drink when I have almost none…

But it’s still nice to know I can freeze hwc… Well, whipping cream, we don’t have more than 30% fat cream here.

I ate a bit from everything again and I guess it was little, I didn’t track (so I probably will eat later). I got bored of my actual meat (like the pork shoulders, day #9. I still have some). Tomorrow I will have chicken liver for variety.
Alvaro had beef at the hospital today. Boiled beef. Why anyone eat it like this? It horribly bored me as a kid, fortunately it was too expensive for school lunch and Mom almost never cooked beef… But if I find something boring, it bores me even if I taste it once a year or see others eating it… Like I am extremely bored of split peas. I make it for Alvaro as it’s dirt cheap, almost zero work for me and he likes it but I can’t even stand him eating it just like that and prepare different tasty protein sources with it every day. Like the totally carnivore cheesy whipped egg white muffins. They got boring too and I added sausage to mine but he will eat up most of them soon I guess (and everyone will be happier)… Alvaro is super good with eating almost the same things every week. (Says the one who ate scrambled eggs for every meal for a while  But that’s it, for a while. He eats certain dishes multiple times a week since many years. The most popular item is on the menu at least a dozen times every week. I couldn’t do this. I could eat several eggs a day for a decade, quite happily, with short breaks mostly due to lack of eggs but not in the same form! Eggs are extremely versatile.))

I actually didn’t want to come and write but I always do this…

I find it curious how I’ve switched back onto steak by moving onto carnivore. I’d been eating it religiously since about April and in the last couple of months, I’d really gone off it.

Moving to carnivore was like flicking a switch that said ‘Yeah, give me beef, please.’

This week’s shop included:

Fresh:
7 x 227g rib eye steak
2 x 700g pork belly
1 x 800g pork ribs
2 x 400g diced beef
5 x 200g pate - I forgot to mention this last week
4 x 200g king prawns
12 x eggs

Tinned:
3 x 125g mackerel
9 x 120g sardines
1 x 340g corned beef

Trying to stock up the freezer and cupboard a bit in case one week some things aren’t delivered.

For some variation, I’ve also got a farm delivery coming next week - which includes liver, suet, and bones/trotters for making stock. I’ve got quite a bit of chicken stock but haven’t made any beef/lamb stock for ages.

Still feeling great on carnivore.

Well, well, well. I’ve had three months of trying to give up Diet Coke. I have reached a milestone.

Today, my daughters were drinking Diet Coke with lunch and I took a sip of their drinks. I thought it tasted terrible. My how my tastebuds have changed!

#113

That’s doubly awesome!

I was quietly following your journey with getting rid of Diet Coke because my vice was Pepsi Max, so I empathised a lot.

(Edith) #114

Do you still drink it?

(Ellenor Bjornsdottir) #115

I’m surprised you were willing to speak one whit of French.

#116

I’ve been cutting down for over a year - it was a very slow process, but I cut down to 2 litres at first, then down to 1.25 litres, then down to 660ml each day from July.

I finally gave it the kick completely a couple of weeks ago.

(Edith) #117

Congratulations! I have quit it several times only to start drinking it again after a while. This is the first time I’ve thought it tastes terrible. I’m thinking it’s the purity of carnivore that has changed my tastebuds?

#118

Well, it’s funny you should say that because I think being carnivore is what gave me the push to give it up.

I’ve given up in the past too - but it crept back in, even on keto, and I didn’t start cutting down with the intention of giving up entirely. I was reasonably comfortable with the success of just having a couple of cans in the morning.

But yeah, going carnivore… Basically, up to carnivore, it was an effort not drinking more of it - it really was willpower vs Pepsi Max. But going carnivore, I remember having it and thinking, “I don’t think I actually like this.”

I was going to give up after I’d finished off my stash because I didn’t want to be tempted if I gave up completely, but then I thought, “I really don’t want this.”

So there’s 24 untouched cans in the cupboard, and I’ve not even considered having one. I’m going to donate them to friends when I next see them.

My tastebuds are stubborn - but I never did carnivore for months either…
Everything tastes almost or completely like all my life - except sweetness, I obviously feel everything even remotely sweetish (and some items not even that) way, way sweeter than before after my low-carb decade (cutting out sugar surely had a huge effect). Cream is sweet, water is sweet, some tea is too sweet, even my weak black coffee is sweet sometimes…
But apart from this, everything tastes like before. I just lost desire towards many things. I wrote about this at some point, it’s new and a bit surreal, I never had this before carnivore. I feel the good taste and still don’t have joy.
Soft drinks have no chance since many years, the horrible syrupy sweetness masks everything, awful. I only tried them a few times in the last decade (last time was some years ago, it was undrinkable), not having too processed stuff was part of my woe change. I make everything from scratch since. Almost everything. I don’t make cheese or sausage  And my mustard isn’t so good either but it starts to disappear from my life at this point.
Carnivore and sweeteners don’t mix anyway. Even when I did just carnivore-ish, sweeteners were firmly banned. But I didn’t miss sweets on carnivore(-ish) ever, it’s feedom! Well no, I actually wanted to have sweets sometimes and couldn’t due to lack of desire. Oh well. I don’t actually complain. It wasn’t so nice to have the burden of lifelong habit of “sweets in the end of meals”, it didn’t seem mentally healthy, I had no particular problem with the sweets themselves. Carnivore always solved it on day 1 and now I know that weeks may pass and I still don’t even think about them. And if I do eat sweets (because I am me and sometimes happens on my off days), it’s usually slightly disturbing and I must eat fatty protein right after. So I have “fatty protein in the end of meals” now (and probably in the beginning and in the middle too, that’s the norm).
It’s quite amazing how quickly I changed. I ate sweets every day before my first carni trials. It was very much needed on my keto and that obviously didn’t help. But now I have meat and it makes half of the difference, the other one is lowering my net carb intake. Powerful combo.

Taste wise I prefer the bacon grease, but the cleaning up after cooking is to much. So butter it is
