Trying Keto after Low Carb

(Mitch) #1

I started a low carb diet in February 2018 , mainly to make it easier for my wife in preparation for her upcoming Gastric Sleeve surgery. (I didn’t want to eat our normal diet as she had to struggle to lean a new way of eating) I do 99% of the cooking and didn’t like the idea of having to prepare two types of meals anyway.

I stared out at 247 lbs. I was on insulin (up to 53 units of basaglar daily), on to of 25 mil of Jardiance. My A1C was at 6.1. I have metabolic syndrome, heart disease, and blood clots in my legs (as a partial list).

Since I started low carb, I have gotten down to about 200 lbs and completely stopped taking the basaglar. My latest A1C was 5.7.

I am now going to attempt to go full Keto. I like what low carb has done for me, but am looking for more.

I YouTube a lot for information on Keto and hope I’m not being mislead by a bunch of skinny people

I’ll be buying Keto Sticks this coming week.

Any information, hints, tips or tricks would be appreciated.

I highly recommend listening to the podcasts at 2ketodudes.com, starting from episode 1. I have learned a great deal about the science of metabolism and other linked biological functions and dysfunctions.

Bacon and eggs are your friend, and as always, just keep calm and keto on.

The YouTube channel for Low Carb Down Under has some really great videos. Some of the science has changed since the older presentations, but the gist is still good. LCDU runs meetings in various locations in Australia and an annual conference in Breckenridge, Colorado, USA. The speakers are a mix of researchers and ordinary folks with different experiences eating a keto/low-carb diet.
