Trouble sleeping starting extended fast

(Travis Harris) #1

Has anyone else had trouble sleeping when starting an extended fast? I ate lunch Thursday afternoon and afterwards wasn’t particularly hungry so decided to try for my first extended fast. Everything is going okay except that I slept really poorly - I wasn’t “hungry” but kept thinking about fasting/food instead of falling asleep. Anyone else had this?

I experience earlier waking times after the first day or two. Can’t say as I have trouble falling asleep because of it.
Maybe it’s that you’re a little anxious about it? Try reading a good book to get your brain thinking about something else?

I am three nights into extended fast and so far I have been having deep restful sleep, more so then when non-fasting. Will see if that changes! Hot bath before sleep?

Looks like you and I are the only ones who can’t sleep while doing and extended fast. I’m on day 3 and barely slept nights 1 and 2. I couldn’t fall asleep and when I did, I couldn’t stay asleep. :frowning:

Yes, this happened to me. Previously I had been sleeping REALLY well while on keto. I feel that fasting has broken my sleep. One week later (after my first ever 3 day fast) and I’m still not sleeping as well as I was before the fast.
