Traveling question for oldies:

Greetings fellow Ketonians.

I have a question about my upcoming vacation.
I have had a very successful run of 5 months doing the Keto diet. I don’t have a scale but my measuring tape tells me I have pretty much lost 8 inches on chest, waist and hips. I’ve gone from size 20ish to size 4/6. Well beyond my expectations. Yay Me! By the way I’m a 61 year old woman.

Anyway…my question. I have an upcoming 3 week trip to Spain and hope to enjoy myself and not do too much damage. I currently live in rural Himalayan India where Keto treat foods are almost non existent…, so I think it may actually be easier in Europe to enjoy Keto foods. (cheese, a variety of meats and raw veggies/salads, yummy olives) and since being fat adapted, starchy food is not tempting. BUT I am travelling with others, and I’m sure there will be times when I will choose to go over my macros, or drink an extra glass of wine.

I have three questions.

  1. Can MTC oil (powder) help me get back on track when I fall off the wagon. (I have never used it)
  2. Since I’m sure there will be times when the fat or protein of a restaurant meal may be low, is there something I can carry in my purse that I can use to balance out my macros?
  3. Are there any other travelling on Keto tips that people would like to share to make the trip more of a success?

Hi Maura,
My advice is to enjoy your trip; have a few treats when you feel like it! Spain is such a beautiful place and they eat a lot of keto friendly food. Tapas are small quantities of all sorts of keto friendly goodies. I live in the UK but enjoy Spanish tapas here and when we’ve visited Spain previously; had fried courgettes with feta cheese on Friday; delicious!

A steak(or other red meats) with salad ;all easily available in Spain, honestly you’ll have no problems! I don’t ever use MTC oil so can’t comment.

Enjoy your holiday!!! Ali
