Tired of bacon already

(Paulene ) #21

I also tired of bacon quickly. I use it mostly in dishes now, instead of on it’s own.
Have you found the recipe section yet? There might be some things in there that you can make. https://www.ketogenicforums.com/c/food/recipes-recipes-recipes
Some of my favourite meals are:
Keto meat balls with veges
Chicken & coconut curry on cauliflower rice
Chicken, caulie & pesto cream bake
Beef Bolognese on veges
Roast lamb with roast veges
Steak with cream sauce & veges
Chicken Ceasar salad
Bowl salads with dark leafy greens and rare roast beef or other meats + blue cheese dressing.

SO MANY choices on this ‘diet’.

Thanks so much Susan. I will try to get a refund as I don’t think I will use this plan. It’s the same thing over and over.

You paid for a diet plan?

#24

Yes. I am trying to get my money back now. I hope I can. I saw really bad reviews on n this scam company

(Susan) #25

There is a lot of great resources here on the forum, the terrific section that Paulene told you about above and “What did you Keto today?” is very handy too, people post pics of what they have had at meals, and if you want any of the recipes, just ask and they will tell you. This forum is very helpful and friendly and we all want you to succeed. I hope that you can get a refund.

dont stress on a plan. There are tons of recipies on this forum that are not eggs and bacon. Over time you will know what you can eat without looking or asking. good luck on the jouney and kcko

As far as hot flashes go, search here in the Women’s category. Keto is a hormone regulating way of eating, so things should get better… but not right away. Sometimes things get a bit crazy for the first few months until your body finds it’s balance. But when it does it should be better than before. Some women near the beginning of menopause start menstruating again for a bit. And there have been oops keto babies :eyes: so depending where you are on your journey, be careful!

But don’t worry. Once you get the hang of things this will be like second nature. The guide @Janie posted is really good.

When I got started, I just downloaded a list of foods and their carb contents. I used it all the time at first to check. There are lots of low carb veggie options, types of fat (maybe you like cauliflower in butter sauce, or asparagus with cheese, or?) You don’t have to be a carnivore. For your hot flashes - mine were rooted in a lack of electrolytes. I bought a small bottle of concentrated electrolytes and add a few drops to a drink every day and no more hot flashes. It seems expensive for a small bottle, but it goes a long, long way, so it’s actually a lot cheaper than buying electrolyte drinks.

I had horrible hot flashes before keto and they went away completely in short order when I began following the diet. But after two years I began only eating meat as it was helping some autoimmune issues. However, initially when I did so the hot flashes began again. It was only when I controlled my protein and got more deeply in ketosis again that the hot flashes stopped again.

My point is, if you find that they continue then consider the quantity of protein you are having daily. Perhaps even measure your blood ketones. High ketones and low blood glucose equals zero hot flashes for me.

I just use chronometer.com to track my foods. Then I go to youtube and put in “keto curry” or "keto mac and cheese " or “keto caesar salad” etc. They even have keto cake! Oh and check out “chaffles”. Those keto waffles might be a great breakfast alternative for you.
What nobody explained to me is that after maybe 3 months or so, if you keep on keto - everything changes. When you get fat adapted, your whole hunger program gets reset. Suddenly the eggs and bacon I so craved every morning ( I LOVE bacon) went away. I slid into IF naturally. And that is the miracle about eating keto. Stick it out and start cooking the things you enjoy. Keep the carbs below 20g and the protein maybe 30% and the fats around 60% of whatever you eat. Wait for the magic to happen.

Hello and welcome.

Make a list of as many keto friendly foods as you can, that you enjoy. I like rich soups (with butter, heavy cream and cheese, etc.), rich sauces (cheese, alfredo, etc.), and keto blue cheese dressing. Because of the fat content, they are very satisfying as well and make everything delicious. I don’t like to fuss when I cook (usually meat and a veggie and/or salad), but I can whip up a soup, sauce, or dressing in ten minutes.

We eat inexpensive cuts of meats like pork steaks, pork ribs, pork chops, 73/27 hamburger, chicken legs and/or thighs (love them but the skin skeeves me, so I take it off), canned tuna with a little mayo. If you buy in bulk at the discount clubs (Sam’s, Costco, etc.), they are very inexpensive per serving.

Keto pizza is delicious and very satisfying. I make the one where the crust is only four eggs and 6 oz. of cheese. You bake that first and then put a little sauce on it and toppings. Couldn’t be easier. I don’t want to mess with almond flour or any of that, so I use the egg version.

Again, write down all the things you enjoy and vary up your meals. Heavy salads are delicious, too.

Best.

A boilerplate I often use to give someone an introduction to foods and recipes:

There are so many low carb options…

There are lots of low carb veggies – mushrooms, cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, green beans, peppers, sugar snap peas, asparagus, radishes, celery, artichokes, onions, Brussels sprouts, tomatoes, …

There are lots of proteins – eggs, chicken, pork, beef, lamb, fish, seafood, …

There are lots of fats – olive oil, butter, avocado oil, heavy cream, coconut oil, mayo, cheese, …

There are lots of nuts and seeds – walnuts, pecans, macadamia, almonds, chia, pumpkin, sunflower, …

There are lots of spices – Salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, ginger, curry powder, …

There are all kinds of sauces and condiments – tomato sauce/paste, mustard, SF ketchup, SF BBQ sauce, salsa, guacamole, horseradish, SF jams/jellies, tartar sauce, …

There are lots of baking supplies – coconut flour, almond flour, flax meal, psyllium husk, Xanthan gum, extracts and SF syrups, unsweetened coconut or almond milks, artificial sweeteners, …

And so many I left out. Almost an infinite number of combinations.

Some illustrated food guides from the Diet Doctor web site:

Ruled.me also has some handy guides:

I do cheap and easy keto meal preps based on the proteins that are on sale in a given week.

My meal preps are a variation on sheet pan meals, with a nod to slow cooking via crockpots.

Otherwise, my pantry list is mostly geared around lazy microwave recipes.

Favorite meals:

  • Smoked salmon + capers + Jalapeno cream cheese + chopped hard-boiled eggs + diced onions
  • “Everything” omelets
  • Pizza
  • Meat and veggie “dump” soups (includes chili and curries)
  • Joseph’s Lavash Bread or Chaffles can be the start of a lot of tasty items.

Favorite side dishes:

  • Steamed green beans, or asparagus, or sugar snap peas, drowning in butter and black pepper
  • Stuffed mushrooms or peppers
  • Cabbage Alfredo, topped with soft-boiled eggs
  • Spanish Rice(d) Cauliflower
  • Faux-tato salad

Favorite snacks:

I do want to be as polite as possible about this; the more you maintain eating certain types of foods with-out going for too much variety, the less you want to eat of it, then your hunger goes down and you start to lose weight; there is also research to support that angle.

The more you start adding too much variety; the more you will want to eat?

“…Oh gawd do I have to eat that again?..”

That is the point?

You get hungry enough, your going to eat it?

(Bob M) #34

I will often make a new (to us) recipe every weekend or every other weekend. Which of course drives my kids crazy, as they like things to not change.

(back and doublin' down) #35

can I live near you? I’d love to have all that extra chicken skin. I’d bake it into chips! Yummmm!

Eat some other meat then, of course…
I never eat bacon but I eat smoked pork, beef, mutton, fish, other things. (Mostly eggs, though.)
In my first several keto months I didn’t even eat meat  But I love eggs and if I have meat too, no way I would get bored. I have many recipes and some creativity if it’s about my food and joy…
But keto isn’t very strict except carb intake, no food is banned, actually… It doesn’t mean you should eat everything you fancy… I learned I should avoid carby things like vegetables in general (except in very tiny amounts)…

Eggs can be eaten in zillion ways. I easily get bored of omelets or boiled eggs but I use different egg dishes then… And I have enough great protein sources to get away with only a few eggs per meal. But sometimes 0 is possible too. But I almost never need that.

Bunny might be right too… If you are bored with your food, maybe you aren’t hungry enough to eat. It’s not a sure thing, I can totally starve (not really, I just feel that. when I truly starve, I am not even hungry, perks of being well-fasted) and still refusing certain food items but there is a strong correlation with being not really hungry and finding a perfectly fine food boring and not desirable…
If you are really hungry and you gag when you try to eat eggs (I was there. I was stubborn, hungry and had about zero other proper options), yes, you need more variety then. Eat meat (huge variety), cheese or whatever floats your boat. I often need to eat eggs even in that situation but I have my ways and recipes. You probably have way more options.

Hee, hee! Give me your address…

(Dirty Lazy Keto'er, Sucralose freak ;)) #38

Well, I still eat a lot of bacon… But I also rotate around between that, steak (cheap cuts, sous vide’d to tender perfection) salmon, in all their farm raised goodness, boneless pork ribs (sous vide’d so I don’t have to use a knife)
Pretty much eat eggs with all of these meats though. Then I add enough butter and sharp cheddar cheese, it’s hard to taste the eggs :grinning:
And have to have a couple slices of my keto bread every morning too.

Oh and this is all just for my big fat breakfasts :slightly_smiling_face:

Dinners are also big and lots of fat. And usually some sort of sweet Keto desert

Never count anything. My weight has been rock solid for 7 or 8 months now (after losing 45 lbs in the first two months). LOVE my dirty lazy Keto WOE

Zero willpower needed.
