The BEST easiest no carb cheese crisp tostadas, taco shells, chips ever - new version

#21

What kind of cheese are you using?

My technique here is specifically for the pre-sliced provolone, in this case a lower-fat version. It always takes more than one minute for me for one slice, but it shouldn’t smoke!

Grating might work better for you as it needs to be pretty thin.

mine smoked (was prob steam tho)…maybe a microwave wattage thing?

#23

Wow, maybe… Did they get crispy at all?

My old micro was low wattage and the one I have now is industrial strength – no smoking or problems with either. With various brands of sliced provolone my time is always between 1 to 1.5 minutes, maybe 2 if I have lots of slices.

Perhaps higher wattage is better since it gets to crispy more quickly? Hmmm…

So sorry that’s happening, maybe the good ol’ oven method would be best for you in that case. (Funny, I’ve had a hard time doing these in the oven, for me they’re always either under- or overdone.)

mine were perfect and amazing  (like 1:15 ish)

the vapor/smoke didn’t alarm me…that’s what microwaves do…suck moisture LOL

I am definitely going to have to try this. We’ll have a build your own taco night…

@Ann1, you nailed it. That stuff is so good right outta the bottle. Makes a cracker a bit on the salty side, but I’m a salt-oholic, so I loved 'em!

Yeah! The spice is great on eggs, avocado’s, too! Sesame seeds have calcium, which is why I started using the spice.

OK last photo, I promise. But this was dinner tonight. I’m on a Trader Joe’s kick I guess, because it was TJ’s carnitas in there. Super lazy dinner, though I did make the guacamole from scratch.

Tostadas con carnitas (Boring-ass keto, right?)

Amazing!!! I love this trick. Works perfectly in my microwave at about a minute.

This sounds amazing!

You’re killing me. Mexican food is my favorite and I still eat it a lot but I do miss taco shells and tortilla chips.

So, @gatita, adventures with your provolone tostadas #6,7 and 8. I’m in Australia so the cheese brands are probably different. I found some presliced provolone at another store and tried those. They were a lot more consistent (and nicer to look at). I’m just keeping on microwaving (beyond what seems reasonable to me) for the extra 15 secs until they work. Maybe it’s time to upgrade the microwave.

They’ve been a lifesaver this week. I’ve got a sick kid at home and my mother was admitted to hospital on the weekend with pneumonia and ended up breaking her hip in the hospital! I’ve been driving around 5 hours a day trying to keep up with everyone and fit my work in there too.

Was driving home from the hospital at about midnight last night, hungry, tired and very flat, had no idea what to eat. Stopped at a strange supermarket on the way home and there in the deli cabinet was the sliced provolone. I’m sure there was a choir when I saw it.

Sliced cheese has kept me going.

Oh my goodness, almost cried reading this! So sorry about your mother, plus all the rest you’re dealing with. But I’m very glad sliced cheese was there (not to mention the choir) to make life a little easier!

It’s a tough week, no doubt, but I’m cool. I have that can-do KCKO temperament going on. Although we’ll see how I’m faring by Friday :grimacing:

What a fantastic idea! thanks for sharing!!

My only beef with these is that I now want to put all my food in these little shells and eat it!! Literally, trying to fit all my food in these. I love them!! And so much easier than the oven method.

I know the feeling. Choco tacos, anyone?
