Taking measurements

#1

I thought measurements would be a more reliable way to track progress, but now I’m not sure. Seems like some days I suck the gut in more than others, and I’m really trying not to. So my measurements are over the place. Any advice?

Well, first would be to stand as neutrally as possible, feet hip width apart, and at rest (dont engage your stomach muscles at all.)

I’m a costume designer, I measure people all the time, but I actually measure myself for tracking purposes differently. I pull the measuring tape pretty taught, and dont leave the slack I would when measuring for clothes, because that way I’m more likely to be consistent.

As Anne said, taught… but not tight. The tape shouldn’t cut into your skin. Try to measure the same place each time, so know how far above your navel. Maybe find a scar or mole. The same place is more important than the “right” place. I also like to measure before I eat, no food babies!

Use calipers.

great question … i have a weird waist line ( belly apron) and i gave up measuring with the tape measure … i just know i have more looseness in the pants without the elastic

measuring is too hard.
I bought pants - non comfort waist - in the next 2 sizes down, 36" & 34". At first couldn’t button the 36". Now they are fine. I can squeeze into 34", but no muffin topping allowed, so they hang in my closet. 38" are for emergency laundry days only.
I only have 3 pants in 36" closet empty… don’t wanna waist money on more…
