So I’ve been doing strict Keto for 30 days now. No clue how much weight loss as I agreed to only weight at the doctors office. Clothing loose now and have cut out 25% of my basal insulin and almost all my bolus. I take a few units at most every few days. I know the insulin I take will twist up my losing weight but I gained over time and will lose that way too. I’m in my 60’s and female. I just started doing IF a few days ago too. No food from 9pm to 1 pm next day. I’m fine with that. I’m 5’6” tall and 409 pounds. Yeah I’m a pig but a lovable one. My a1c’s are always great so no worries there. I could eat a whole pizza but knew how to count and dose for the carbs. Brilliant right? Not actually. So hello to all. Glad to have found you!
T2 super obese 1 month keto
Welcome! How often will you get weighed at the doctor’s office? It’s probably a better idea than me jumping in the scale three times a day!!! Congratulations on the great progress you have made so far.
Welcome and congrats for finding the right diet for you! You will win. If you have lots of fat, becoming fat adapted and fasting is the answer!
Congrats, you are on your way!
My big regret is that I don’t have more pictures of myself when I was super obese. I really only have one. Needless to say, I hated having my picture taken, I was so ashamed and embarrassed. Now, I wish I had a full layout with myself in a Speedo, so I could show people and have the maximum shock impact.
I recommend to you, and everyone else out there beginning this process, to take lot’s of pictures of themselves. You don’t have to show them to anybody if you don’t want to, but chances are you’ll really want to have them in a couple of years.
Hi Perpetua, Well done already and welcome to the forum!!! Sounds like you’re enjoying your new way of eating(WOE) and the many benefits it brings. I’m T1D so understand the exogenous insulin issue, it doesn’t prevent weight loss, just slows it down. As you are T2D hopefully in the future your doctor may be able to reduce your insulin doses more and more. Please feel free to ask any questions. Feel very proud for what you’ve already achieved
Just remember KCKO (Keep Calm and Keto On).
I started strict Keto 15 months ago, at 650 pounds (M, 60, 6’5"). Pre-Keto, I was using nearly a vial of insulin per day for my T2 diabetes. I haven’t used insulin since 2016 and quit taking metformin about 6 months ago. I’ve also dropped over 180 pounds.
I can go in whenever I want. I see him every 3 months. I have a scale that will weigh me at home and I do know it is within a pound of the one at the doctor’s office.
A relative told me I have enough fat in my body to burn and didn’t need any additional, lol. Of course they know nothing about keto.
I also shy away from photos. I think you have a good point though so maybe will have to take some in underwear and encrypt the files!
This is the problem: everyone is an expert, and almost all of the time they know nothing. The reason I love the keto diet is the science. I now understand the why behind my weight, and I now KNOW what I need to do to get to the weight level that I want.
This person was doing “lazy keto”. I’ve seen empty chip bags and cheeto dust on their fingertips so we can guess what that means!
After my blood sugars were stable for a couple months, I cut the dosage in half. After a month, no issues, so I eliminated it completely. Still no issues. My physician was aware of and approved each step of the process. But I was the one that brought it up.
NO, you are a victim of bad science and the Big Food and Big Pharma industries, like so many of us. NO GUILT. NO SELF-FLAGELLATION.
It MEANS they’re not keto at all! They are fooling no one but themselves.
CONGRATULATIONS!

on finding the way out of “fat prison!” We’re glad you found us.
i will discuss this with my doc also, I really want my system to get back in control of itself …Thanks for your experiences.
Welcome to the forum and to the keto WOE.
I absolutely cannot wait to hear about your continued milestones as you heal and as your life improves.
My story is not profound(I’m down 30+ lbs and am only looking for another ten) but I can honestly say that I am a keto proponent and supporter of everyone and anyone who is trying to improve their health.
You have my full support in your endeavor.
Keep calm and keto on
