Supplements: Exogenous vs Micronutrient

(Scott Dunham) #1

Hello all. I was diagnosed T2 about two monthe ago. I am 65 and have not (consciously) started keto yet, although I have started to shave off some carbs.

I have two questions about keto supps:

Most seem to be exogenous with the four minerals. But I was wondering if any of them also include regular nutrients that can be lacking in a keto diet, such as B1 and Chromium, or do I need to add those supps separately.

I have been looking at ketone supp reviews, and of the two sites that seemed to be the most comprehensive (I didn’t save the URLs, sorry), one had a Top 5 and one had a Top 10. There were NO products common to the two lists. Doesn’t that seem odd?

A well-formulated ketogenic diet will supply all the micronutrients you need; there should be very little need for supplements, except in special cases. Every study of supplemental micronutients has shown that the micronutrient under study had much more effect when obtained from whole foods in the diet than when taken as a supplement (and in a number of cases, the supplement turned out to have no effect whatsoever).
