Stay-On-Plan September - ZC Carnivore 30 day challenge September 2024
I don’t know how animal-based differs from zero-carb/carnivore, so I guess I’ll have to check it out.
In any case, if you feel more at home in that Reddit sub, more power to you.
Wouldn’t your AB way of eating fit some of the threads on this forum outside of the carnivore threads?
AB is basically Paul Saladino’s diet. Mostly animal but not entirely, and not necessarily keto because of the potential for honey and fruit. I can see why it’s not a perfect fit, but we’ll really miss you!
I’m still stuck… and I’ve gone up to my top weight.
Anyhow. I’m recovering from my sinus crud. Tapering coffee again, but otherwise back on track with my meat only September. Kinda grouchy. Dropped the steroid pretty quick. I was only on it for 2 days.
I hope we get some rain soon very dry here.
I really would like to hear you and your musical life now and then! Good luck for everything!!!
Sometimes when I find this forum slow (okay, once this far), I try to find something else but nope, nothing works after this one. I popped in a vegan forum once, it was quite tough, some were quite crazy… (I never had problems with a bad fit. Once I was a core member of a thread for divorced parents searching for a partner. from the 3 conditions I had zero but I had nice talks and even met the others once. But of course I never wanted to stay on the - inactive at that point - vegan forum, why would I do that to myself? I just wanted to see such a thing. And I have learned from it. Like, some people consider their own spouse a psychopath if they go vegan and the spouse keeps eating meat despite documentaries shown. Wow. I know there are tons of lovely, tolerant, not delusional vegans out here but the crazy ones are much louder and memorable.)
At the moment I happily eat my pork (tender, lovely green ham, I love it while I don’t want pork chuck, what is wrong with me…? it’s not the fat as I really enjoy the fatty pork ribs. I thought it’s not as fatty but it is. quite nice, I eat them together) and very little else (it means I stay a bit hungry after lunch as I just don’t want to eat much meat at once, it probably will happen eventually… but it’s fine, dinner is in 2 hours). While Alvaro doesn’t even eat any meat for days. He has his sweet veggie soup still, he just needs a cake afterwards and bam, perfect lunch for him. I wonder about the macros, especially now that I only used 1 egg in the cake as we are low - but he will buy 40 tomorrow and all will be well as far as eggs are concerned. I may make a small egg stew, it was so long ago! 20g protein, it seems, quite low, his breakfast oatmeal had 30, I doubt his dinner will be particularly protein rich without meat and eggs but it’s probably just enough for him and his average day have more. Even if he never gets close to my most decent normal days… But carbs and extra fat (I mean, beyond what I need to get enough energy) don’t satiate me, of course I eat protein!
Like this. I had difficulties with the photo, maybe tomorrow I can show other than the top part!
It is really LOVELY just like the SUNSHINE! OH yeah, 10 Celsius but sunshine, I took a nice walk (only saw ducks. where are the other waterfowls?). It’s walnut season but the disease that got very common years ago still goes very strong, making the walnuts all black and bad. I feel sorry for the critters eating it (and us but we can handle it better, probably). We have many beautiful squirrels with black tails and lots of darkness in their fur anyway here They are supposed to be red and they have that color partially and they are sometimes red but darker ones are prevalent here. Of course squirrels are opportunistic eaters and find other things but they surely depended on the zillion walnut trees around…
[…]
I have found another photo, a few days old, peasant’s breakfast and Camembert.
And I finally tracked. 4 days. Yep, I eat in a deficit. And my protein went below the usual minimum, 130g! Not every day but I do well all the time now.
And my workout today? Went super well! I felt hungry, sleepy, didn’t care so much… But my muscles worked well and I can raise weights ~
Is it just my new-found extra determination? Wow. I don’t even sleep at the right time, I can’t go to sleep early enough, I am just too awake even after 2am I had such a good time with waking up properly and now I lost some sunshine in the morning!!! It won’t do, I will change it somehow. It takes some time but when I get the hang of it, my body stays there for a while. I just shouldn’t mess with my bedtime afterwards.
My meat intake varies, somewhere around a pound a day so that’s normal. But my dairy consumption went lower and sometimes it’s really low. And I never started to eat much eggs again… But just because of this I don’t need more meat (yet?) so I eat little enough. Without effort. Even if I eat at midnight as my body counts the protein and feels it lacking or something. Not eating too much dairy definitely helps but this much? I do eat various kinds just little! So I want to keep whatever I have now.
Edie I thought so until I read that AB includes at least 100g carbs. I’ve been mostly just adding strawberries which are low(ish) but this is the Ketogenic Forums! I wasn’t that surprised not to find AB in my search in KF.
Saladino said “The carnivores hate me. The ketogenic community hates me. The vegans hate me. And that’s good because it’s a starting point for conversation.”
@ctviggen Bob, that’s right on. Saladino added these foods when he realized his problems were rooted in electrolyte imbalance.
@beannoise Thanks.
@Shinita thank you.
@kib1 I’ll miss you too. Good luck with everything.
@PaulL Thanks.
This was my plan… My lunch was nothing like this though I did eat some of this. And freshly made pork loin. And I had circumstances and burned things and ate them (not just because I was the one who burned them, I can handle burned things much better than Alvaro. except pancakes. burned pancakes are irredeemably bitter. and I wanted to taste the result of the new recipe anyway…). They were nice. And carby. The amount wasn’t much, I can handle it but yep, I went off. And I didn’t need or want it, it was just there, burned, all for me… Oh well.
So tomorrow should be a very behaved carni day. And for the remainder of the day, I go back to the leftovers on my plate (except the pork ribs, too many non-protein calories and I have modestly fatty pork loin!).
I am pretty serious about October though. September is a bridge between the carbier, much wilder August and the starting of my more carnivore season (except December but I probably can limit the carbs to a few days), there are still some tempting fresh items and I can’t just change suddenly anyway. I have the occasional carbier day but not multiple ones in row like in summer. And I really don’t plan it but I can’t just resist everything around me. I don’t feel any negative effects like this (one occasional modestly carby day between almost fully carni ones). I don’t try at all. It’s my normal. No effort, not giving up absolutely everything (in the contrary, I still eat things because they are there, being nice, not because I really want them. I expect it to get better soon).
And November always was my best carni month I think. January is the second best but sometimes December has lingering effects. I won’t even let December going too far this year. I hope
@JJFiddle please miss us so much that you come back to the fold love reading your posts and your music life… always nice to read about people doing what they have a passion for… and getting paid for it! Good luck with AB and i hope it makes a difference in your life.
Looks like our weather is on the turn… last few mornings have been a little brisk but then eventually the sun has starting warming up. I am still able to sit outside but we have rain forcast all next week no doubt that will drop the temperature a tad bit…or maybe a great deal… who knows with our good old Blighty weather! One thing we are always sure of is the unpredictability!
Forgotten to take foody pics last few days but i have been eating Sirloin steaks, cheese omelettes and one with added sausages inside, my usual fried eggs on black pudding, and chicken wings.
Been CrossFitting Tues and Thurs and booked on Sat too. Tea dancing yesterday at Church Gressley with Richard Keeling… one of the few keyboard players we enjoy and off this afternoon to Lichfield for our usual Fri tea dance. We have another dance planned for tomorrow night.
found one foody picI had my longest walk since my foot injury… I got sooo tired I had a backpack full with things, our webshop order arrived and Alvaro can’t bring it home on his bike without even a basket. Milk powder for me, yay! I will use it sparingly but it’s a great item! I actually get less carbs from milk with it as if I open milk, that’s 6dl milk for me in days but I can just use 1-2 g milk powder once and forget about the stuff.
But I didn’t want to write about that. I considered I still have space (and I had) so we did some shopping. Now my freezer is almost totally full with meat $1.70 for 1kg chicken leg? I can’t resist that sale, not even when I have 8 hen limbs in my freezer… Chicken will come handy when I finally get bored of my pork. It didn’t happen yet but I do have variety. I had a day with 3 different cuts (and the 4th kind in the freezer)!
I often eat 600g meat now but yesterday I wasn’t that hungry despite it being an OMAD day and only had 400. But it’s usually 600. I have noticed it before, it’s one of my magic numbers/amounts, I eat that much and stop. With or without a bigger amount of eggs and dairy so it’s not just about the macros I reach with this amount. 600g meat and little else sounds nice to me, it seems working for me.
I bought pork belly too, some green ham as always (I need it for meatballs, I want to use up the pork skin in my freezer already) and the organ-pâté thing I have written about before. It has pork liver, heart, lung, spleen and kidney, skin and meat too. Alvaro dislikes it, I mean, he could eat it when very hungry but he rather eat something else. But I LOVE it. I don’t often like deli meat but this one is great. And it has more protein than fat, yay. The processed meat products I like tend to have much more fat than protein…
So I have supplies galore now. Eating is easy and enjoyable. And mostly carnivore. It gets better later.
The weather is wonderful and sunny since DAYS! I can’t complain this time Only a bit above 20C but I have gotten used to the sudden drop and it IS a great temperature. And it’s autumn already. October should be similar, at least the best days, I just remember the nice things
Colorful foliage, 20-25C with sunshine, great hiking weather… October usually has that - and colder and rainy times too, of course but no frost yet. Or just in the very end. But climate change is strong here, we don’t just get droughts (as if Hungary needed that… the Big Plain already had it when I was a child…) but the first frost may not come in the first half of November. It tended to arrive just before the 1st of November (to make the crysanthemums die just before one wants to bring them to the cemetary for All Saints’ Day… we covered all the bushes so ours survived), I remember that.
November is when we start heating. Some people already started when the weather got cold, their houses can’t keep the warmth in without proper insulation. Maybe they like very warm houses too, we were fine with 21C, just dressed more warmly.
You are welcome to join me over on Kiltz’s Mighty Tribe or Carnivoretalk.com.
Both carnivore and very welcoming.
Last night I fried a whole 200g double brie in ghee. It was added on to a plate with a 250g Scotch Fillet and two large fried eggs. It was a nice combination and very satisfying.
It was how he solved his heart palpitations. A condition like mine. But I have insulin resistance as a difference, so adding in the carbs isn’t going to help me. I need to review aldosterone hormonal links to insulin and retaining electrolytes.
Lamb chops and two fried eggs cooked in butter on the wood fire last night.
Breakfasts have been 4 chicken eggs omeletted with bacon cooked in ghee.
Cool, cloudy, Spring days.
This is a native yellow cowslip orchid with a weed daisy from South Arica called Capeweed. It is peak Spring orchid time here, as well as the waking of the deadly venomous snakes. Wildflower viewing bush walks carry some risk, it makes them more fun.
Whoa, what beautiful flowers! Especially the orchid, I see daisies all the time here too Orchids are special, even ours (tiny ones but in a big cluster, quite pretty and only are around for a few weeks per year).
We have those weird purple beauties now, they bring the leaves in the spring, now it’s just the flower on a stem!
Alvaro used up all my green ham for his chili beans but he will buy some more soon. I think I need to keep more of it at home all the time. But I have some fried chuck in the freezer still. The ribs are in the past, just like the very very very lovely, tender and juicy loin. I am quite pleased with my meat lately.
BUT… I really, really would like to eat some mutton. I couldn’t find any since several months at least. Not even at the hypermarket. The place changed They don’t even have those lovely big slabs (4-5kg pork loin is something. that is a decent amount,. great to cook at once if one have a normal sized oven… but if I could buy the biggest possible oven pan for my mini grill oven, that probably would do the trick too. once I squeezed 3.5kg meat into a smaller oven pan… but the pieces were too close in the beginning so it slowed down the cooking) anymore. And the game meat fridge disappeared too. There is still deer in the big one, I can get deer even from LIDL, that’s not difficult… But mutton? That’s tricky. Sigh.
I will cook pork liver tomorrow (and probably convert most of it into a meaty pâté) and we have egg stew. Variety is nice.
We have the same weather every day. Sunny, a bit above 20C when it’s hottest. Still weird that we have a coolish September after the record breaking beginning… But if I get 2 months of this weather (with rain here and there), I won’t complain (A few hotter day would be nice though, the house could use a tiny bit of more warmth and only my room gets sunshine.)
September has flown by. We have to start thinking up witty titles for the October challenge.
I have been eating biltong today driving from the city out into the country. Steak dinner.
Did CrossFit on Saturday and then to a dance in the evening and had a lovely time. Sunday was a tired rest day… i xcan always write off Sunday after dancing on Saturday night as the dance venue is usually long distance. Took Raymond shopping but that was all.
CrossFit Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and this morning…think i have my mojo back Raymond landed back in hospital with his ingenial Hernia on Tuesday night and i picked him up 7am the next morning and took him home.
Daughter picked me up from CrossFit after the wod this morning and we spent a fee hours together having brunch and a mooch around the charity shops with Freddie before she took him to baby yoga. He is such a contented munchkin and chuckles a lot.
I just had a couple of fried eggs on 2 black puddings with 2 sausages and had Sians 2 bacon from her full english breakfast.
Been eating lots of rollmops again while they are back on offer at Sainsburys. Foodie pics this week…
Weather changeable at the mo…chucking it down now, quite dark and i think i spotted some lightning and heard some thunder but it was warm and sunny this afternoon! Was forecast rain this morning but it fortunately held off.
I don’t even try to find a name, of course, I leave that to the native English speakers… But I am looking forward to September and had thoughts about it! I have supplies, I have my training, I think I will be fine. Of course, my track record points into another direction but my optimism never let itself be bothered with it.
This week was a bit special as the transformer at Alvaro’s workplace blew up and they had no electricity for days. It changed little but that little was significant: working hours got shifted by 1 hour so the sun was up when the workday started. It’s all fine now, it was only 3 days…
So I had my first proper meal after 4pm. And… I wasn’t even hungry yet… I did have some not black coffee before, sometimes a few bites too but it was really minimal. Strange.
And we barely had eggs and we just… Didn’t eat eggs. And it felt okay and normal. I don’t need many eggs anymore. At least I can survive with only a few for several days without problem. Good. Less eggs tend to mean less dairy as I often combine the two groups. They are so good together, after all.
This time the pork liver isn’t nice. It’s hit and miss with pork liver anyway, I prefer chicken liver but it was cheap and I do LOVE pork pâté. More the supermarket stuff than my own but I will learn and mine isn’t bad either. I haven’t made that yet but I cooked a small pork/pork liver stew. I liked it except the liver pieces… But I could eat it, eventually, with enough sour cream…
Today I cooked chicken legs (well. generous legs. there were even ribs… it’s not even the butt part, that is actually in the name of this one. I think this is chicken quarter in English…?) and green ham, for both of us, for today and tomorrow as well. And Alvaro bought 40 eggs but I am not interested much yet. The egg stew was nice, I would have liked more of it but other egg dishes? Nope. Maybe a batch of sponge cakes, I need something to eat the leftover organ deli meat with.
So I plan to keep my low egg and hopefully dairy consumption. I may be a bit too much into milk powder now, I try to change that. I had my fun after our order arrived but that should be it…
The weather is nice as before but today is was SUPER windy. The blanket I put outside to dry had some vigorous exercise And all the cat food/drink bowls needed some serious weight to avoid the fate of blown away and they are mostly real close to the wall so the wind isn’t super serious there.
And I felt like Sisyphus when I nicely swept the terrace and the next time I went out it was almost like before… The linden tree AND the wind are a force I have no chance against. The linden tree lives its best times now: both seeds (crops? the whole thing? I googled but it’s not easy and quick to figure out) and leaves are falling now, they are everywhere… They don’t look nice or orderly on the white terrace tiles Oh well. Still better than after rain too and the wind sometimes helps when I sweep. Sometimes it works against me…
We will have rain, allegedly… On the day we wanted to go to an already postponed hiking in the higher parts of our mountains… We will see.
We need a tiny shopping too, a few important items run out.
