Starting to gain weight after two weeks of losing

weightloss

(Eve) #1

Hi!
I’ve been in for two and a half weeks now (nothing too long, I know XD) and have achieved quite good results (around 3kg or 6 lbs) since I’ve started. However, yesterday happened something which terrified me - I gained 400g. I’ve blamed it on my cycle and rolled with it - today I’ve gained 300g ( that’s about 14 and 10 oz) and I’m getting nervous.
This way I’ve already almost gained again a third of what I’ve lost. I guess it will stop soon, but I would like to know what have I done wrong during those two days, knowing that I have tried to be very cautious and had some effort

FRIDAY:

  • coffee with 36% cream (heaviest found around here) that I drink every day
  • 1/4 omelette (so around 2 eggs and some whole milk)
Then I went to a manifestation (School strike for climate^^) and walked around 8km. The annoying part comes after, as my friend brought me a cheeseburger (I ate only the patty and the cheese, google told me it was fine) and a coke zero (which is 0 carbs in theory) from McDonalds, around 250ml. The thing is that coke tasted good XD Maybe too good? I didn’t check on the lid if it was zero or not and I’m starting to fear it was just regular coke. This might be the reason I took fat that day, but on the other hand I’ve walked, jumped and danced a lot that day, so shouldn’t it be burned?
  • Italian keto meatballs from diet doctor - Recipe
SO I guess the coke could be what killed me. Still I really had a ton of effort that day, so I’m a bit suprised I gained so much

SATURDAY

  • Coffee and heavy cream
  • Panned asparagus with butter (around 6 sticks)
  • Oven asparagus wrapped in bacon (4 sticks)
  • One keto bread bun from diet doctor
  • Two slices of french cheese (and I mean FRENCH, so old , on whole, non pasteurised milk)
Walked a bunch at the mall and went for an about 2km walk/skateboard trip. What I can blame myself for about that day is that I didn’t drink too much. Apart from my coffee, I had maybe two high glasses of tea.

I’m trying to find what did I do THAT wrong. I mean, a stall is ok, but weight gain? That’s annoying, I don’t want it to happen again. To give some more informations, I am 22yo, female, 170cm (that’s 5ft 6) for 87.7 kg now (193.3lbs) and about 40% body fat (a little less, from what I judge from the pictures). I though of course of my cycle, but being at the beginning of it, I should loose weight, from experience. I also am hypothyroidic, but took my meds regularly and took blood tests recently.

What do you think? I’ll be happy to hear any thought you might have

You didn’t do anything wrong so relax and breathe! Good :cowboy_hat_face:

Weight loss is never linear, a pound or two up can mean many things. You’re a woman and mentioned your cycle. Well that’s a big one. Normal weight fluctuations don’t mean you gained a pound of fat in a day. Impossible!

A 16oz glass of water weighs a pound. More likely your body is retaining a bit of water. Even if you drank a regular coke it wouldn’t make you gain except little water maybe. So one high carb accident isn’t going to have any effect other than maybe a temporary day or so with more water retention.

You can’t expect daily or even weekly lowering of your weight. You might go two weeks without loosing and all the sudden you’re down three pounds in two days. Happens all the time. When you aren’t loosing weight other good things are still happening to your body with keto. Metabolic and biological rebuilding and healing are happening. Those will eventually lead to weight loss faster, it’s a process not a quick weight loss diet. It’s about healing your metabolism and hormonal response and that’s why you loose weight, not just because you’re dieting on certain foods.

Patience is your friend, know you’re doing what’s best for your body. :cowboy_hat_face:

This way of eating is 3 steps forward, 1 step back with your weight. You are going to fluctuate but if you stay the course, your month over month should be a downward trend. Some months you are going to lose more than others. I have lost as much as 10 in a month and as little as 2 and I had 11 week period where I lost NOTHING. But! But! But! I am almost to goal because I didn’t lose sight of the big picture. You can be almost to goal too! Just be patient with the process and patient with yourself!

Oh frack, patience XD Okay, you guys reassured me, thank you  . I wasn’t expecting fluctuations honestly, everyone seemed to be talking about stalls are loosing weight, so I started thinking maybe I was doing something wrong (this was also a way of checking if my mealplan was fine, thy all ) .

Repeat after me: Weight loss isn’t linear. Weight loss isn’t linear.

I have lost 27 lbs. (12.24kg) on a fairly steady downward trend since the beginning of the year. I’ve averaged about 1.4 lbs (.63kg) per week. In that time, I’ve had weeks where I’ve gained 3 lbs. and weeks when I’ve lost 5.6 lbs. I’ve even lost or gained nearly 2 lbs. overnight.

If you’re going to get on the scale every day, you need to understand that this is going to happen and be able to roll with it. I understand wanting to. I do–I find it motivational and I’m a data hound. But if it’s going to freak you out, then don’t get on the scale every day.

I’m glad to read this. I’m on an 8 week stall where I’ve lost/gained 1-2 pounds total. Discouraging, yes…but forge on I will because I believe in the Keto way of living!

I stalled for 11 weeks with that ending about six weeks ago. I am now down another 7 pounds. It happens, hang in there. Edited to add, I can see I mentioned the 11 week stall above and that’s what you are responding to. LOL, can you tell it’s on mind!
