Starting Keto Today!

#1

Over the past week or I’ve listened to 2 Keto Dudes podcast from the start up through the end of 2016. It really peeked my interest and gave me hope for living a more healthy life.

I’m 32. I went to the doctor today for the first time in many years. I should be getting my blood work back soon. As of yet I’ve not been diagnosed diabetic but I suspect my insulin may be out of wack.

It was interesting. I’m obviously overweight (morbidly obese) and that is my doctors biggest concern. He brought up eating healthy, low sugar and increase healthy fruits! I didn’t really push back on him about the fruits. I didn’t specifically tell him I was going keto and obviously fruit is just sugar. He also said I could be a good candidate for weight loss surgery and he’d give me a referral if I wanted but suggested I try nutrition first. I’m going to get healthy eating bacon! Not having a surgery.

I’ve got an appointment with a nutritionist next week. I suspect I’ll be telling them about my keto plans. I’ve not heard much about where nutritionist stand on keto. Does anyone have experience or tips for talking to nutritionists about going keto?

I’m glad that you found the 2 Keto Dudes! Welcome to the forum and good luck with everything. Perhaps you will find that your nutritionist is enlightened; however, you may learn that you are well on the way to becoming your own nutritionist after having listened to all the podcasts and hopefully doing more research on your own.

Best of luck to you! You got this!!

I have a feeling that they are going to recommend you eat something like this…

I guess they best thing to do is go, see what say and if they parrot the above picture, I would just nod, take their literature and say thank you. Never to go back again. Lol…

Good luck!

Welcome !

Please give youself the amazing gift of curing yourself. You can do it. Nobody but you will. We will be helping all along the way though.

I may suggest that you don’t thrust the nutritionist blindly… Double check everything. Question everything. Read read read

You’ll mostly find unproven dogma and wrong science…

Thanks for the warm welcome! I’m sold and excited about all of the benefits of there keto way. The doctors are not going to change my mind unless they can Show Me The Science!

Day 1 has been a success other than not cooking up some bacon yet. I’ll get right on that first thing in the morning.

Also Dish,

About your doc recommendation to surgery. My ex-wife, mother of my kids went the surgery way in 2009. Gastric bypass. She lost SO much and I DON’T mean weight. Horror story… We suffered stuff you would not beleive… Promise me something. We’ll have a chat before you EVER choose the surgery path. This might save your life.

Sincerely.

Welcome. I seriously considered WLS in the past. However, my dr did not support it at all. Since I needed a recommendation from him for it because of my insurance, I kept putting it on the back burner. I’m thankful for that now. While I believe those who get WLS are very brave, I now know keto is my path.

First, congratulations on taking this first step in managing your health and wellness.

The nutritionist is a toss up. Most are going to recommend the government standards. And may try to talk you out of ketosis. If they do, bring up paleo. They don’t seem to have as many reservations about that. You can just make it a low carb version of paleo.

I’m down 18lbs in the first week! I know most of that’s water weight from cashing out my glycogen stores. Interested to see what the nutritionist will have to say tomorrow.

I’m loving this WOE. Bacon! Carlshead pizza! I’m not as hungry and the food I can eat is delicious. Previously I ate out most of not every meal. I’m digging getting into cooking real food.

Way to go! Who cares if it’s water weight? It’s weight, and it was taking up room in your body! It use not just 18 lbs lighter, that’s 18 lbs smaller, too.
As for dietitians, just tell them you’re off the sugars.
