Starting Keto this weekend

(Dawnita Schaefer) #1

Hubby & I are starting our Keto journey this weekend. I’ve been doing a lot of prep & planning! Went thru the cupboards, fridge and pantry & got rid of all the carbs. My birthday is Thursday and we will have last hurrah(although we’ve already been cutting down on carbs).

My biggest concern is meal planning & prepping. I don’t want to get bored so I’ve been doing a lot of recipe saving.

Welcome! You’ll be surprised how easy it all becomes. Ask questions as often as you need.

Welcome to the forums, and good luck on your new way of eating. Most people enjoy it. I only intended to cut out sugar and sweets and ended up feeling so much better that I soon went full keto.

You can minimize the keto flu or even avoid it altogether by increasing your salt intake and staying hydrated. Eating carbohydrates causes water retention, but when you go keto your body excretes a lot more water and salt. A stock cube dissolved in a cup of hot water twice a day will do the trick, and if you feel ambitious you can even make your own bone broth, yum!

Please keep us up to date on how things are going for the two of you. We’re here to help.

I’m doing it for weight loss but he wants to get off all his diabetes meds.

I’m starting out at 5’10 and 255lbs. I did the Atkins many years ago & did pretty well on it.

Welcome. I was like you husband I started keto to get off meds! I had started out low carb and then went full keto when i realized my A1C didn’t changed and haven’t looked back!! I didn’t experience the keto flu but i would take the advice given and stay hydrated with plenty of sodium/potassium/magnesium.
Keto on - only way to go!

I started on Sunday too, this is my second time last time I lasted a month.

Good luck with it all!
