Ok - just asked because it seemed that you were starting out with them - and I looked up the carb count. Gosh, I would miss them too. Good job.

(Matthew) #142

Thanks. And I looked everywhere for low carb arepas and ofcourse you can imagine there is a very wide range of them in Colombia. But none with low carbs surprisingly.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #143

Just figured out they are the same as empanadas? Or looked like an empanada from the picture?

(Doug) #144

I can see why. :slightly_smiling_face: One of my things is sort of related to that, in a carbohydrate-type way = flour tortillas. I can take lots of them and fold them up into wedges and just eat themā€¦

(Empress of the Unexpected) #145

When I used to do that (seriously havenā€™t had one in six months) they had to be fried and swimming in butter.

(Matthew) #146

Empanadas are fried pastry filled with meat. To be honest they arenā€™t like arepas at all unless you make an arepa sandwich of sorts

(Empress of the Unexpected) #147

So an arepa is just the pastry part - made with corn?

(Matthew) #148

Yeh they are delicious. Especially arepas made out of yucca. Absolutely mouthwatering

(Empress of the Unexpected) #149

This ainā€™t healthy, guysā€¦ :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

From wiki: An empanada (Spanish pronunciation: [empaĖˆnaĆ°a]) is a type of pastry baked or fried in many countries of the Americas and in Spain. The name comes from the Spanish verb empanar , and literally translates as ā€œenbreadedā€, that is, wrapped or coated in bread.

Empanadas are made by folding dough over a stuffing, which may consist of meat, cheese, corn, or other ingredients.

I ate many a veggie wiener from the days of my youth. Was raised on the fake meat. Some of it is better than others, some not so bad, some not really qualified to be considered actual food.

Honestly, Iā€™d rather eat real meat than what gets sold as fake meat these days and rarely will touch the fake anymore. For one, it will make my wife swell up as though sheā€™s been stung by a bee in most cases. And there are some kinds of it that I canā€™t digestā€¦ which means itā€™s coming back out one end or the other, or both, and not in pretty ways. Feels pretty bad, too. Itā€™s just not worth it to us.

Iā€™ve seen some ā€œhealth nuggetā€ blurbs in a church setting that ooo and aaah over McDougall and a few others. But the last one that really got me was somebody, donā€™t know exactly who, that hated butter so badly that they actually recommended eating margarine. Um, I donā€™t think so. (I actually voiced my disagreement on the spot but the ā€œsheepleā€ were only intent on their hypnotic oooing and aahing.) AARRGGHHH!!!

Hi All,

Apart from Dr Paul Masonā€™s highly illuminating dietary myth busting videos at the UTS, I think longevity specialist Dr Peter Attiaā€™s advice concerning diet is second to none. He undoubtedly suffers a kind of obsessive compulsive disorder regarding his personal dietary habits, which is not a bad thing for one being a longevity specialist. What I find makes his advice so stimulating is his skepticism regarding the dogma associated with various dietary groups. In essence his knowledge about biochemistry, nutrition and exercise is way beyond that of a prototypical dietary fantatic who swears by a certain way of eating and for that reason I find him easily the most informative speaker on diet I have so far found. The podcast below goes a long way to demonstrating just how knowledgeable he is and nearly almost everything he says is backed up my exceptional personal testimony and science:

Diet Doctor Podcast #2 - Dr. Peter Attia

This Peter Attia is my new hero. Incredibly insightful, modest, and intelligent. He is a lifelong learner in the truest sense. His natural curiosity to learning and self improvement is remarkable as the video below demonstrates.

Interestingly, there is a strong connection between his comments regarding his future self and where he wants to be say in 5 years and Jordan Petersonā€™s physiological reasoning behind the future self-authoring program.

PS, the title of this video doesnā€™t do it justice:

I saw my doctor today and she said my results couldnā€™t be more normal.

I have some Liver blood tests to follow to just cover the odds and ends.

I would like to thank Regina, because if it wasnā€™t for her, I would have been in no-mans land.

(Jane) #159

@Regina ROCKS!!!

Couldnā€™t agree more.
