Speaking of NSVs

(I Am The Egg Man ku-ku-kachoo) #1

I introduced myself here a couple of days ago. For those that don’t know, I’m a mid-50s morbidly obese man trying desperately via keto to reverse a lifetime of food abuse I’ve subjected myself to.

Although I’ve had some initial success and lost about 65 lbs, I still weigh in excess of 425 lbs. My numbers are improving and I feel better, but I don’t fool myself: I’m fully aware that I’m at great risk.

That said, on to a couple of NSVs.

I’m on a “mini” vacation with my wife and teenaged kids.

  1. We rented a car and for the first time in a long while, I’m sitting behind the wheel of a regular car! Well, a Subaru… It’s NOT a van or big SUV!
  2. We ate at achain restaurant where they could how they pleased and I ate an angus patty w/ cheese, a wedge salad w/ lemon, oil & vinegar, and some sauteed mushrooms.
  3. I just walked 3 miles out a long shorebreak and back and still feel good!

This CAN be done.

Keep doing this, it works!

Doing those things are major milestones. And walking 3 miles isn’t easy. But one thing is for sure, if you KCKO it will get easier!

Personal accountability is great, and I’m sure you’ve made your fair share of bad decisions like all of us… but don’t blame yourself for years of bad nutrition information. The guilt doesn’t help you heal. KCKO

Ruina, I agree with your post. Guilt and regret are useless and self-defeating. I just started last month and I look at myself as a new person. The old Dave is gone (except for my musical tastes).

Guilt is just like physical pain. It can be very useful to keep us safe or warn us of a problem. But sometimes it outlasts its usefulness and becomes a pathology in itself. Then it is time for it to go.

You always have to note the NSVs! They are so important! Congratulations on your keto changes so far and best of luck continuing your keto journey!

Don, risk, yes, but you are addressing that! Keep, going, man.
