Spam n cheese ribbon loaf

none

(Casey Crisler) #1

Has anyone tried the Spam n cheese ribbon loaf? (Recipes can be found on the ‘net.) But it’s pretty much cream cheese mixed with a few things and spread between slices of Spam and refrigerated a few hours. One YouTuber made it and actually liked it. Except it was very salty she said.

No, but you have my attention.

That’s the one. Someone try it and report back.

And with deviled eggs too??? That’s a keto party on a plate right there.

The recipe doesn’t state it, but it looks as if the Spam was cooked (at least the bottom slice looks to be browned).

Now that they make Spam singles, I can make smaller portions and not have to use a big can.

Thanks for posting!

Does this mean you’re going to be brave one to actually attempt it?
In the YT video, I don’t believe she cooks it.

(TJ Borden) #9

I think it’s already “cooked” in the can. We just usually recook it somehow.

I’ll have to pick up the Spam and cream cheese next time I go to the store, but I’ll definitely try it!

Report back. I actually have spam and cream cheese on hand, and I’m still on the fence if I want to waste either in the experiment.

Hot Damn! I just bought 3 cans of Spam today!!!

#13

Correct. It’s cooked in the can. My college roommate was native Hawaiian and loved it. He grew up on it whereas I threw up on it. I couldn’t get past the texture or its history, though certainly if you know your way around the kitchen you can make it into something.

(Little known fact. “SPAM” is short for “Spiced Ham.” )

I may have to try this although I’ve never ate spam before!

#15

Unfortunately, it has some starch and added sugar, though it doesn’t appear to be too much given the carb count. So, it’s probably fine in moderation. My roommate pan fried it with onions and other Hawaiian things, like pineapple and other spices his parents mailed from the island.

Here’s a DIY SPAM video. Cooking starts at 5:50. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOvAMWupNcs

Thanks I’ll definetly check this out, sugar doesn’t scare me as long as it’s minimal.

#18

Yeah, the sugar doesn’t appear to be a big deal. In the video, he doesn’t add a lot. Could probably skip it entirely, I’d think.

Oh, and because this thread made me curious!
