Smoothie recipes?

#1

Hi Team.
I’m hoping to introduce smoothies into my diet and have searched but can’t find any recipes on here. Is there a reason not too many are using smoothies?

Also, I’m trying to avoid dairy so if you can share a smoothie recipe that you’ve used that doesn’t use dairy, much appreciated!

They’re typically carby because of the fruit in them. You could check out Joe’s site at the below for smoothie and juice recipes as there are lots but I’m doubtful you’ll find stuff that’s low enough carbs.

Edit: you could also do some almond milk, spinach, a few strawberries, some low carb protein powder, and ice cubes. The protein powder comes in a ton of flavors of course but it makes it easy to then go way over on protein and I prefer to eat my macros rather than drinking them.

OK, thanks. I’m actually find a lot of keto smoothie recipes when I Google it but of course I find the information on this forum the most reliable and trustworthy. Since I didn’t find much when searching on here I figured there might be a reason they are avoided.

I think they’re just better as fruit smoothies vs veggie smoothies so rhat could be why.

#5

I’m sure they are DEFINITELY better with fruit.

But some of the recipes I see suggest cocoa powder, coconut cream, veggies, nut butter, cashew milk, etc. And a touch of acceptable sweetener of course.

Might try one tonight.

You can add avocado as well
Getting the creamy taste

More important…
added FAT😄!

Yes, avocado would be great but lately they’ve been disagreeing with my GI tract. Maybe a 1/4 of one would be OK.

You would think that since I’m not a newbie to this WOE that I wouldn’t still cringe when we talk of fat but all those decades of “fat is bad!” are hard to get out of my head.

Sure…start of w a 1/4?
So many health nutrients in avocado too
What works for you no doubt

I Completely understand about the old WOE
Overtime. You will CRAVE fat

Get ready to cringe
Hope ur sitting down
I’m eating a half stick of butter as I’m replying …yummy:smile::smile:

Martina Slajerova’s ketodietapp.com has some fat bomb smoothies that are delish and have dairy free variations. Fat Burning Vanilla Smoothie is really good. I’ve added collagen and/or protein powder as a meal replacement. I also just use cooked egg yolks when she calls for them.

Her book Sweet and Savory Fat Bombs has a bunch too. I add wheatgrass juice, a handful of kale and protein powder or collagen to the Key Lime Smoothie, but that does feature avocado. It’s my current fav.

Great suggestion! Even though dairy bothers me I seem to get away with butter. And I would definitely enjoy putting a glob of butter in my mouth from time to time - I may just go do that right now!

What’s the consensus with collagen? Once in a while I come across the notion of ingesting some daily but not sure what the benefits are besides hair, skin and nails (as if that’s not enough, right?) What does it add to this WOE that we need?

Also helps with joint health. I take it because I’ve developed a bone broth aversion :woman_shrugging: I can only get it down after an EF.

So I found a few recipes for Keto Smoothies that sounded decent, hit the print button, and headed to the kitchen. My printer had reformatted it in a way that I couldn’t read the ingredients correctly and I had already shut down my computer, so I just winged it.

I threw in some romaine lettuce, cashew milk, coconut powder, powdered peanut butter, half an avocado, some powdered cocoa, and a touch of Swerve. GOD - what an awful color! If you’ve ever changed the diaper of a newborn, you’ve seen it!

Taste? Eh. It wasn’t horrible and I was easily able to ingest it all. It filled me up and I was satiated so mission accomplished. A little more sweetener would have helped but I’m trying to get away from the taste of sweet things. And a recipe and measurements could have helped, but at that point I was in “science experiment” mode.

Time to go find good recipes and print them PROPERLY this time.

OK, just made this one and it’s tasty and filling me up (I came home from work starving and we won’t be having dinner for another 2 hours or so). Now I need to go check the nutritional stats. They say it only has 5 carbs in it (wonder if the recipe is for two servings or one). But what confuses me is when I reach for my container of powdered all natural cocoa, it says there are a LOT of carbs in it. Why is that???

Recipes , as it says, 1-2 tbsp
You can always use less

How many? At what measurement?

Just tried to find out how many tablespoons in an ounce. Most sites say 2. I found one site that specifically mentioned cocoa powder and on that site it’s 3.84 tablespoons.
