Small Victories

#1

Yesterday I ALMOST went on a carb binge due to emotional trauma but ended up holding out till I could get home and have a keto meal. This makes me proud because I’ve dealt with emotional eating for years.
Let’s take time and appreciate your small victories! What happened in y’alls lives recently?
posted in newbies because I’m on my third week of keto

Last night I went out for dinner and enjoyed all the flavors that the restaurant had to offer - all by choice. Feels good to know that one meal is not going to change my self discipline.

I know it can sound heathenistic to say in this forum, but I think that’s an important part of the ketogenic way of eating as a lifestyle.

Even Jason Fung talks about the fact that it’s okay to eat birthday cake, or wedding cake. I believe success comes from the fact that I don’t even WANT cake in general anymore.

I LOVE fathead pizza, and having a slice of regular pizza isn’t something I’m interested in at the moment, but I’m not going to sit here and say that because I’m keto that I will never have a regular slice of pizza ever again, or that I’ll never have Taco Bell again. I’m just not having either today, because I don’t want to.

Keto is a way of life. Which means we still have to live. KCKO

Good points. I’m not sure if this was directed to the post or comment but I can say that the goal of this post is to celebrate those small changes that we make for the long run, such as mine: choosing protein over my old carb comfort foods. (Even though I know it’s not good to have too much protein, but it’s better than how I used to eat). It’s funny you post this because I almost included in the post “keto is not a sprint, it is a long distance goal” which is the way I look at it.

Doesn’t it feel awesome that you aren’t controlled by the urge of food anymore? That’s great.

I don’t think they were saying that you should have eaten the carbs, I think allowing themselves the carbs when they were in a healthy frame of mind was their small victory.

Personally, not succumbing to emotional eating triggers is a big thing and definitely something to be proud of, well done.

@notmyname, exactly. It’s the fact that the choice is mine, and I choose not today.

Oh, I see, I’m sorry for interpreting it the wrong way. :persevere: I’m use to getting advice on these forums (which is awesome but can so be overwhelming sometimes) so I automatically assumed it was advice for me, not you explaining your victory.
I celebrate with you on overcoming the feeling of wanting non-keto food.

Thank you. I still have a long ways to go and I know there will be more in my personal life that will test my ability to resist the urges but it feels good to know that it is possible again.
Do you have a victory you would like to add?

Sitting on my butt bones. Didn’t want to lose too much there. But there it is.

Non-scale victories are my favorite. Good job!

Only 5 days in but have 4 of my best nights sleep and not waking up hungry in years. LOVE coffee bombs - usually o heave myself out of bed then rush around late. This morning I was so looking forward to my indulgent, previous-diet-rebellion creamy treat that I got up early enough to savour and finish it hot while sitting down the whole time! Definitely a success for me to begin a day sooo calmly

Yes! I love that I don’t have to pry myself out of bed anymore. I wake up at 8 everyday and can’t go back to sleep, but I don’t mind because then I have plenty of time to do things in the morning. All without feeling tired! I too indulge in coffee with mct oil or coconut oil.

I was in my yard, and my neighbor said “Hey, what are you doing in that yard?”

He didn’t recognize me in my smaller size!

#15

Yay. That’s so funny, haha.

I also found out some very stressful news this week, and have resisted the urge to jump off the wagon. Also my sister and mum have joined the keto life which I’m so happy about.

I went to a restaurant which I was a bit scared about but managed okay.

I think my biggest NSV this week is not getting neurotic about the fact I haven’t been logging all my macros and instead feeling comfortable that I know what to eat and that I can always start logging again then next day or whenever I’m up to it. It’s just another reminder that it’s a WOE and not a diet. xox

Wow, those are all big accomplishments. I’m proud of you!

ditto:)

Nice job!! I’m so impressed

I visited family in Colorado this past weekend and stayed in ketosis the whole time. You’re right, these “small” victories are a big deal!

Wow, that’s awesome! Go you. And thank you.
