Shirataki noodles too slimy

(Brenna) #1

So I was sooooo excited about Shirataki noodles and was soooo excited to be having spaghetti.

But …I"m not sure I can eat it all. Its so slimy. Omg. I can barely eat one or two at a time.

Ideas?

#2

I hear they need a very thorough rinsing before use.

(Running from stupidity) #3

Multiple ones, apparently

(Brenna) #4

lol, I finally got it all down. I don’t want to quite give up on it. Maybe i’ll “dry” it more in a dry pan next time and see if that helps out.

Why not make your own Zucchini noodles instead with a spiralizer?

(Running from stupidity) #6

Or, far better - Daikon noodles (doodles)?

I’m not a fan of shirataki and there isn’t much that I don’t like. My advice is to save the bolognese, put it on a garlicky fathead pizza dough, top it with cheese and stop eating things that make you make funny faces every time you take a bite of it.

Rinse them and then fry the heck out of them in a dry skillet (about 5 minutes). My opinion is that the angel hair variety are more palatable, texture wise, probably because they are much thinner. I love to use the rice in fried rice. If I add enough egg and other goodies, its barely noticeable.

I chop them up a bit so they are not chokable, and microwave them Drier

(Brenna) #10

Ok. I most definitely didn’t dry them enough. I might give it another try next week or so.

(Urmi) #11

I’ve heard of this fathead pizza. What is it??

(Carl Keller) #12

It’s keto pizza. Looks just like legit pizza but the “crust” has a different texture due to it being mostly cheese along with almond flour. It’s pretty easy to make and worth the effort.

Saute or microwave them until DRY.

FTFY

They’re terrible! I usually eat the Edamame noodles/pasta and cut the serving size to 30grams and serve with a creamy carbonara sauce (which is filling enough!) - 5.2g carbs but 6.3g Fiber for the pasta.

(Brenna) #16

I still want try one more time. But I’ll up the drying time.

So I discovered frozen cauliflower pizza crust at whole foods. It’s totally delicious, but actually much high in carbs than I thought it’d be. Too bad, cause that ish is delicious.

I’ll give this fat head stuff a try!!

(Urmi) #19

In the video, she gives the macro counts for a serving size. What’s a serving size? That one slice?

(Running from stupidity) #20

Cauliflower is a VERY deceptive vegetable. It sneaks under your guard even when when you know its ways.

Because it’s SO versatile, and you can use a LOT of it.

It’s very versatile, as well
