Rebooting

I just returned from a fabulous 3 week trip to Spain. I feasted including the occasional sweet, bread and far too much wine (I enjoyed every moment of it) I gained about an 1 - 1.5 inches over all ( I don’t weigh myself, I measure) I am looking forward to returning to my keto ways.

Here is my question: When I first started keto it took 6 weeks to become fat adapted. Can I speed up things by doing a fast first before I start my keto eating? How long of a fast would I need to do.

Thanks!

Yes, but you’ll likely find the while process quicker anyway.

Don’t sweat it. This is a lifestyle, and opportunities like a trip to Spain deserve to be LIVED.

Fasting to speed adaptation could potentially feel like a punishment. It will also work if you dont mind feeling like a turd for a bit(48-72 hours). You could also just make sure you really cut the carbs and eat a keto meal every time you’re hungry. (You’ll probably be hungry… alot)

Option b. - fat fast with bullet coffees and other fat infused beverages and add bone broth. This wont give you all the health benefits of a true fast, but it will get you back to the promise land quickly without causing too much discomfort.

Maura, I did something similar this summer (S America, so plantains and yucca!) and found it was really easy to slip back into things. When I mention this on the forum, I always put a disclaimer that I wouldn’t recommend it for someone who has serious metabolic issues, but I definitely found that having been in ketosis before made it pretty easy to find that path again. I think I did actually do a fast soon after, and it was fine. This is not true for everyone but it worked for me.
Still, I would probably start with option B
