Really cold AND really hot with IF

#1

I’ve searched the archives, but can’t find anything addressing this specifically. I’ve been keto since November 2017. Have done some fasting on and off throughout. Decided to try daily IF - 18:20 and 20:24 (depending on my schedule). I am really enjoying the freedom and the ease of it, plus have dropped a few bonus pounds .

Problem: While I’m fasting, I get really cold, and then at night, after eating, really hot. The cold part doesn’t really bother me, and I’ve seen here, and elsewhere, that this is common. My BIGGER concern, and annoyance, is that at night, after I’ve eaten a very satiating keto meal, I get soooooooooo hot, I cannot sleep. I mean, hot to the point where the bed feels warm to the touch. It goes away around 3 a.m., so I’m sure it is the thermal response to digesting food, but why in the heck is IF making it so extreme?!

Has anyone experienced this? Is it temporary? I want to continue IF for all of the benefits, but I need some sleep :joy:.

Break your fast in the morning or early afternoon?

That’s a good idea, but unfortunately, the only meal I eat with my family is dinner. Since I’m only doing this for added flexibility, I hate to make things more complicated.

Maybe a small something with family then proper meal the next morning?

Thanks, Allie! I will give it a try.

gf has the samething, becomes literally so hot after eating it starts to hurt a little if im too close to her, no clue why, must be some lava genes. Like @Shortstuff said, just switch ur eating timings, green tea can help u induce thermogenesis and boost ur body temp up if u become too cold during a fast, if too hot jump into a pile of snow outside

Thanks, ODE! Glad to hear I’m not the only one. But the snow solution will be tough since it is 80 degrees here in Texas :joy:!

Hi Carikate.

It seems like every article I read said this happens with women much more than with men. It is likely hormone related but something science can’t adequately explain or even suggest how to limit. One person in the thread below did say that uping their salt helped but didn’t cure the problem.

Thanks, Carl! That makes a lot of sense, and would explain why the fasting has prompted it even though I have already lost most of my weight over the last 16 months on keto. Guessing some of those stubborn pockets of fat (belly, hips) have some stored hormones that are now torturing me ! And I’m good with that!

Thanks, again!
