Hi all 4 days into below 20g carbs and I’m feeling so hot ! Temperature I mean
Is this a normal reaction to keto ?
Feeling hot
Really cold AND really hot with IF
This happens to me. People feeling cold is more common, but you are not alone. I’m not sure why though.
I get this sometimes. I hope that it’s just white adipose tissue acting like it’s brown.
When women eat ketogenically (or when we’re losing fat), it can stir up hormonal fluctuations. That can affect our temperature control. Also, when you’re eating this way, with plenty of fat for fuel, your BMR can rev up. This can cause you to feel warmer, especially if you were someone who was cold a lot before. Admittedly, this happened for me a bit further on in the journey for me.

When you are new to keto, your electrolytes get out of whack. Grab a diet power aid (not gatorade- its electrolyte profile sucks) or body armor brand electrolyte water. Should clear up in 20 minutes.
I am pretty much warm to hot anytime I am not fasting, seems to be more so after consuming higher amounts of omega-3 high items, the first few weeks I would wake up sweating in the middle of the night and could not go back to sleep. I upped salt soon after for other reasons and I went back down to just warm to hot most of the time.
I think of the things that may cause this is when your body starts to release fat some of the minerals like magnesium and potassium are released as well since they are stored there, this may cause a reaction which increases the metabolism much like the brown fat theories or even part of it. I have no proof or studies to point to but as I got farther along and my fat sores have dropped I have needed more of both when fasting.
Thanks everyone. I have always found it so difficult to lose weight but 4 days on strict keto and 2 kg gone ! I’ve had bursts of heat all day so hope it is my BMR improving and my fat stores being used up.
This is totally how I felt when I first started Keto. Don’t be surprised if you get hot flashes as well. Every body is different but I went through this as well. Just make sure to stay hydrated as you transition into a fat burning state.
I am exactly two months into Keto, and for the past two weeks I have been experiencing this too. I wish I knew what was going on exactly.
Another interesting thing, after I eat I get extremely cold, to the point of shivering. After some research I have come to understand that this is the blood diverting its attention to digestion. It is probably more pronounced now because I used to eat the prescribed 5 small meals a day, hence never noticed this before (now, being OMAD). It was quite the revelation to actually experience this and have an understanding of what was happening.
