Question about eating too much protein on a certain day

#1

I’ve been doing Keto for about 2 1/2 months and have been successful in losing 25 lbs and curing my type II diabetes. I’ve been very strict about it so far, but a friend invited me to have all-you-can-eat crab legs tonight, and I’d like to go. Running the numbers, I see that crab legs are pretty much 100% protein, so even if I drench them in butter and chug MCT oil all day, it will be difficult to hit 75% fat for the day. If I accept that I’m going to have too much protein, would it be better to consume as much fat as I can, and go over my caloric intake plan for the day, or just eat a reasonable amount of fat, and end up with a very low fat percentage? Is maximizing the fat valuable, even if I don’t hit 75%? Thanks for any advice you can provide.

I personally wouldn’t worry about it. Going over protein isn’t like binging on carbs. Also, crab legs are a workout so you’re going to use that protein.

I’d rather go over on protein than have carbs any day. Enjoy the time out and don’t stress it.

Being strict keto going into it really helps you - the response to a lot of protein is much different than coming from eating heavy carbohydrates. :slightly_smiling_face:

At 2.5 months you are probably fat adapted so I wouldn’t worry about upping you fat to compensate for the higher protein intake. Enjoy the feast, don’t stress and have fun!

The occasional single meal is generally a non-issue.

Enjoy!

And then, go back to your normal keto way of eating. You’ll be fine.

KCKO, as they say around here.

Don’t give it a second thought. Most people don’t need to fear protein unless you’re just reckless with it.

I order both Dungeness Crab and Snow Crab by the case from a nearby retailer who gives me a great price. So once a week or two, we eat crabs & shrimp and have never had any problems. Also get Blue Crabs from the store that buys Cheesecakes from me, and the same. … I usually eat until I’m full, but not bloated, and eat what’s left later that night or the next day.

I would say enjoy, like everyone else said.

Thanks for the quick responses everyone! Now I’ll be able to enjoy my feast with no worries!

Make sure you keep your butter close! My wife likes to steal mine! … Plus you will get plenty of sodium!

Don’t forget, it’s good to throw your body a curve ball once in a while anyway. Sounds like a delicious way to shake things up.
