Quest Keto Products - thoughts?

(Svetla) #1

Sooo I’ve been notoriously addicted to Quest bars and gave them up on keto. When I found out about their new line of Keto frozen meals and snacks I got waaay too excited and I ordered a bunch of stuff. For most part I was excited because corporate America is investing in keto, which means two things - either someone in Quest is really good at convincing people to just spin up 30 products or they see a real market opportunity and there’s real data behind it - the community is growing and people will start paying attention. Which means we get more nice things. Which has its pros and cons but it’s great to have options!

Now my honest opinion is that I don’t think I’ll stock up on more quest meals in the future, not because they weren’t good, but because I prefer cooking and try to avoid processed food… keto junk food is still junk food

However I thought it was super neat that they have so many frozen options as well as a bunch of deserts and they were all really good!

I got a giant styrofoam thingy with an icepack FedExed overnight. Here is what I tried:

  • Keto Peanut Butter cups, which were just amazing
  • Keto Fudge cups - not as good as the PB, but super tasty
  • Keto Cinnamon roll. OMG! Either I haven’t had a cinnamon roll in a while or this was too good. Safe to say I’ll work on my own cream cheese frosting!
  • Keto Buffalo Flatbread - it was reeeeally good.
  • Bacon frittatas - not yet sampled.

All meals excluding the snacks are 500 ish calories, super low on net carbs and sugars and high fat. Some come with a lot of sugar alcohols and fiber though. You can see all nutrition on the website.

Tested Ketones with the most dangerous one, the cinnamon bun , it didn’t seem to kick me out of ketosis:
Ketones before were 1.1 mmol
Ketones after: 1.0 mmol

Anyways wanted to share. I personally don’t eat frozen meals, but it’s nice to know the option is there! Plus… That Cinnamon bun.…

Have you tried any of the other things they have on the keto line? Which ones are good?

I’m also curious if you any thoughts on Quest’s interesting market move - will it be a game changer or die off?

Allulose? Has anyone heard of it?

Yes, that is very true.

Awesome, I was going to order some the other day. Thanks for the insight😁

I’ve also had the Quest Keto products - fudge cups, cinnamon roll and breakfast sandwiches and they tasted great and didn’t knock me out of ketosis either.

I think they’ll continue to grow in popularity, but I prefer to get my food naturally and these foods are something I’ll get occasionally for the fast meal.

I got the Quest MCT oil powder in a quarterly biohack box, and loved it, have since ordered another tub of if and regularly add it to tea and coffee, haven’t been more adventurous yet, but I highly recommend it and so far I haven’t had the disaster pants from it, but only really using a scoop at a time.

Haha…You do it the right way. I’m mental so I load it up and back it off until I STOP having a “disaster in my pants”. Lol

I tend to do the same thing on most things I’m evaluating because I want to know what the maximum dosage is for me before I see problems.

I’ve lost, I think this is my 5th time, over 50lbs or more thru several diets. The thing that has always broke me down and signaled a return to bad eating has been eating “healthy” alternatives. The difference I think with keto( so far) is I don’t have the desire to eat these things. There are too many lies in the labeling of these products. I mean, no one here would sprinkle psyllium husk fiber on regular ice cream and say your net carbs are lower, but if it comes packaged that way, it gets a pass. I think (my opinion), that net carbs is only valid in whole foods, but in processed foods, it’s a marketing scam.

alright, i want to know how to make my own version of the quest keto flatbread… I dont want to pay 10 plus shipping for something i can make my self for 1 or so

FYI, I was looking at the ingredients on some of these new products and it shows “soluble corn fiber” several times in the ingredients. There is some discussion on the internet about “soluble corn fiber” being a rebranding of corn syrup because of the HFCS fears. I’m wondering how much fiber there really is. Guar gum, present in the product, is a fiber, and I’d be curious to know how much of the fiber is actually from the 3 different gums added to the product.

I agree. Fake things are bad, even when designed to look good on a nutrition label. I did manage to lose 30 lbs and keep it when eating a quest bar a day, that seemed to curb my sugar cravings, but I only use it as post workout reward. I think that’s the only way these little treats do little damage. Then I just started craving different rewards

I do Carlshead pizza. It’s really good with buttery procciutto on top

I think another point is that I see the market for these products being more “low carb athletes”, which is gaining traction and is a fascinating movement by itself. Athletes sometimes eat notorious amounts of junk food, which doesn’t really fit in a low carb training model. You can get away with a little more carbs/protein around your workouts and that’s the only time an insulin spike is useful. Key here is “a little” and we still prefer whole.

In general I tend to dork out about the economics of it, the fascinating thing is that the two movements are separate (keto for weight loss, treatment and prevention of cronic desease and keto/Paleo for endurance athletes) and they are both growing and creating their overlapping market niches, both based on the overwhelming movement that has found the growing list of benefits and almost complete lack of negative side effects in switching fuel sources. Starbucks already offers a low carb snacks and I bet you in no time are they gonna start offering bulletproof coffee.

I keep wondering who are going to be the “General Mills” and “Kellogg’s” of the new world, where popular opinion is slowly shifting despite best lobbying efforts.I personally think quest is just getting on the right horse (although I see zero marketing right now, so I don’t think they’re really betting)

I feel the same way. If the fiber isn’t part of the food as a whole and not an add-on it’s a complete lie.

i bought 3 bad of the quest “potato” chips… three different flavors, I got sour cream & onion, Cheddar & sour cream, BBQ- tried the sour cream & onion and the bbq… they are a very off texture, and the flavor is weird… have not tried the 3rd flavor, its up in our pantry, not hidden, in plane view and my teenage boys have not eaten them… that is all the info you need right there…

(eat more) #16

i tried the chips when they first came out and the aftertaste made me think i was chewing on instant mashed potato flakes

(Dustin Cade) #17

there really needs to be some Keto Pringles… that’s a billion dollar empire…

(Roberto) #18

I was going to buy the cinnamon roll but just read the ingredients (sucralose) SIGH… I would try it if it weren’t for that one… oh wait… and it’s 8 bucks for a roll??? sheesh!

I tried it when it was a little cheaper and it was good, but it was expensive then and even worse now, so the only cinnamon rolls in my future are from the recipe below when my kitchen remodel is finally done.

Why? Either it gets cleaved into glucose or it doesn’t. If it gets cleaved into glucose, it’s not fibre. If it doesn’t, it is. Whether part of a whole food or not.
