Protein over fat

(Dee Eichler) #1

I have been on keto 2 months. I need to loose 60 lbs. I have lost 12 lbs which is great but having a hard time keeping my fat % over my protein. Is it odd that I feel my protein is more satisfying than fat? I adjusted my weight on carb manager and now I have less protein. will this eventually slow my weight loss.
Also where is my energy?

What are your macros? How many carbs (net)?
What kinds of things are you eating? You should be well on your way to fat adaption. Are you eating 3 meals a day? Are you fasting any?
Without more details it’s hard to give advice.

I don’t have that problem, personally. I find it easy to add fats.

Not at all. I agree with you and I nearly never agree with what carb calculators suggest as far as protein goes. I often double what cronometer.com says to eat and I have no problem losing weight.

I believe what’s most important is to let hunger be your guide as far as how much protein and fat to eat goes. If we are hungry all the time, then we are not doing it right. Keeping the carbs low is much more important that keeping protein low.

So if you are losing weight, I encourage you to keep doing what you are doing. To
hell
with what the protein macro says.

I find it’s the combo of fat + protein that keeps me full, so I keep to the fatty protein. How is your protein outnumbering your fat in terms of calories? Are you eating a lot of lean protein?

How many grams are you doing of them?

(Dee Eichler) #7

I updated my weight and my macros went down. Net carbs 15, fat 96, protein 77 and calories 1238. I usually fast 16/8. I skip breakfast. Lunch is usually a salad with protein. Dinner is usually steak or pork and a veggie. Then a fat bomb if I need the fat. I want to be able to have 4oz chicken in my salad then 8oz steak ??

(Dee Eichler) #8

Sounds reasonable otherwise how do we make this a life change if we are constantly feeling deprived

(Dee Eichler) #9

My calories are inline. It seems to be the steak that gets me over. If I have 4oz of chicken in my salad for lunch, I cant have an 8oz steak for dinner

#10

At 1200 calories, it sounds to me like you’re possibly under-eating.

(Dee Eichler) #11

96 fat and 77 protein. I cant live on 6 to 7 oz of meat per day and feel satisfied like dr Berg says

(Dee Eichler) #12

I need to loose 60 pounds. Mayb that’s why. My macros come out pretty much the same in every app I try

#13

Under-eating won’t make you lose any weight faster (in fact it tends to backfire). If you have your app set to lose weight, switch it to maintenance mode, because those apps - especially Carb Manager - will tell people to starve themselves. I personally wouldn’t even bother with it other than using it to look up how many carbs are in something until you got it down pat, then eschew it completely.

#14

Then don’t. The most important will be to be in ketosis and achieving your goal. I have certainly lost weight eating more than 77 grams of protein per day (on average and I am a 157 cm older female) so if it works for you then go for it. Do you exercise or being active?

(Dee Eichler) #16

No, dont exercise. I am retired

#17

Are you physically disabled in some way?

(Allie) #18

Eat what suits you and feels right, not what the numbers on an app tell you. There’s no app that knows what is right for you. Keep carbs below 20g and let the rest take care of itself.

(Dee Eichler) #19

Sounds simple. Will try to not be so obsessed.
