Popular online keto cake recipe - too good (and carby) to be true?

(Pat Mifsud) #1

Hey there,

Was about to give this delicious sounding keto recipe a go:

but it sounded too good to be true. And then I scrolled down to see that each slice as 7 grams of carbs, meaning two would be half a days limit of carbs. The choice of cinnamon (6 grams of carbs in of itself) and so many apples (tree sugar) is a bit puzzling?

I’m fairly new to Keto so I don’t know if this is one of those ‘fiber makes the carbs not as bad kind’ of things or if there is something else here i don’t know about yet.

Please tell me what I want to hear and say that this is ok to eat!

  • Serving Size: 1/8th of tart
  • Calories: 302
  • Fat: 26
  • Carbohydrates: 7g net
  • Protein: 7

Would be ok for an occasional festive meal. I wouldn’t be doing it on a regular basis. Cinnamon adds a few carbs, it suppresses appetite, so why not? The granny smiths have a decent carb/fiber ratio.

That would frighten me off, as well, TBH.

Most people (not all) count net carbs and keep them under 20g a day (especially at the start) so I think you’re right to be avoiding it, especially early on.

As I follow Dr. Westman’s guidance to count total carbs, this thread strikes me as to why his advice is solid and helpful. BTW, every time I’ve followed net carb guidance, my weight and health markers shifted accordingly, and not in a good way.

As Abraham Lincoln famously said, no one lies on the internet.

I imported the recipe’s ingredients into MFP and matched it against USDA-sourced food items and what it reports isn’t matching what the recipe page reports. I count total carbs, this doesn’t look worth it to me, nor am I feeling like I’m “missing out” on it. Protein was 2 grams a serving, looks like I cut that off in my screen capture.
