So I started keto November 23-2019
Not losing much on the scale but inches are coming off. Anyway I couldn’t move for about a good month. Not even a half a pound a week. Total loss to this day is now only 14 pound… However I got those two extra pounds off because… I decided to eat carbs.
Had nothing to lose. Nothing was moving that scale a half a pound let alone two in around a week… Hasn’t happened since the middle of Nov * December… when I started. Nothing except adding around 20 pretzel rods in five minutes changed.
I enjoyed the hello out of it, but not long after it made me vomit.

Now that was a week ago. I’ve also went up from 18-20 carbs to around 22-25 a day. Not worried about full ketosis. I feel better. All that matters. Jumped up to around 25 sometime last week also. Was feeling really bad.

So that’s it.
Staying out of keto for a minute.
I haven’t cheated once since the pretzel Rod puke… But I’ll tell ya this, if I hit a hard plateau I’M DOING IT AGAIN.

I think it’s like a restart or reboot for me, maybe not you, but for me.

Good day

I’m afraid you’re now considered a Heretic on this Board. The most prevalent Dogma is that eating some limited carbs to break a Stall is considered Apostasy by many, even some who have stalled for over a year.

Congratulations, you had the intellectual curiosity to try a n=1 experiment with some limited carbs, and found it to be beneficial.

You can even try one carb meal per week and see what that does. The potential positive metabolic effects can be.pretty significant, as long as you’re not someone with control issues.

:joy::joy:

Are you saying I might get burned at the stake for going 200+ carbs for 2 weeks!?
In my defence, it was also n=1… but I kinda enjoyed being ‘naughty’ for a bit.

Who knows if it was the carbs? Maybe it was the vomiting?

#5

Yeah, it’s hard to say what causes changes sometimes.
When I first quit keto (not lost any on it) and started to eat more carbs, I started to lose fat and it continued for several weeks.
It doesn’t mean carbs aren’t a huge obstacle in my fat-loss, every time. I just had an even more powerful sudden change.

The case here wasn’t written clear enough to guess probabilities but it has to be a big enough loss, multiple times to say it was the carbs. Or a very strong gut feeling, some probably probably can do that too  I trust things I repeated many times, I am not that special but my body tends to do the same when I give it the same.

Adaptation

Your body has adapted to the number of calories that you are consuming. In other word, you’re metabolism has dropped.

When adaption occurs, progress stops.

Increasing Your Metabolism

The key to getting your weight loss back on track is to increase your metabolism.

That is accomplished by increasing your calorie intake approximately 20% for two week. After those two week, decrease your caloric intake approximately 20%.

There will be an increase in your weight when you increase your caloric intake for two weeks. That will be followed by losing the weight you gain and more.

This is base on…

Intermittent energy restriction improves weight loss efficiency in obese men: the MATADOR study.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28925405

Research found fat loss was maximized and muscle mass was maintained with this method.

This method has been used for decades by Bodybuilder; performing a Bulking and then Cutting Phase with their diet.

I recommend you consume carbs intermittently, rather than setting a Daily amount. For example, instead of consuming 200g Daily, take those same 1400g of Weekly carbs and have two 700g days with a day or two between. It keeps your liver glycogen from rising, and it allows you to drop back into Lipolysis between your carb days

(Paulene ) #8

I’m not sure what the relationship is between ketones and lipolysis is, but I was eating carbs to get out of ketosis for a period as treatment for possible keto rash. Do you think the intermittent carbs would take me out of ketosis but still allow lipolysis? If so, that would be a nice solution.

Hi Mg,
My guess is that you are consuming hidden carbs and not loosing weight due to that. Almost everything has carbs. Cheese, all breads, pasta many nuts (Almonds are the highest in carbs of the keto nuts). I have list 60 lbs by tracking my foods and kind of keeping caleries below 1200. I also lost 4 inches in the waist. I use MyFitnessPal but my daughter uses something else. I track my foods and note the macros. Hitting 29% carbs I gain weight. Keeping them below 10% (29g) and I do not snack and I feel full most of the day. I average 70% Fat, 19% Protein and 21% carbs. Compare your numbers with mine.

Lipolysis is the burning of fat for energy. In reality, it is the actual, correct term for what people call keto…Ketosis, or the production of ketones, is merely a part of Lipolysis, and a secondary one at that. This misnomer was used starting about 20 years ago during the height of the anti fat nonsense. It was thought people would be more receptive to the idea of burning ketones rather than consuming fat.

 True dat!

This is the voice of insanity.

Bwaha ha ha thanks good thing those who disagree, don’t fill my bank account. I will always use my head.

(Mg ) #14

Nay, I’m a puker by nature. Never did it enough to ever lose weight.

@MG1
Well I started end of November too and I have lost “only” 8 kilos (=17 lbs) up till now. I am satisfied with that. I know another gal who has been doing keto for a whole year and has lost 12 kilos (= 26 lbs). She is fine with that too. Not everybody loses like 30 lbs in 2 weeks. I am just happy the scale is going down while eating so well. My daily limit should be 1992 Kcal. Usually I am maybe 300 kcal less and my carbs are below 20g. I will stick with that however slow the process is. It is always better than the creeping up I saw on my scale before keto.
So if nothing is moving at all- I think it is a question of keeping those carbs below 20g/day, not eating TOO much so the body fat is still being used for energy instead of the fat which is eaten, and being patient. I figure if I continue along these lines, then by the end of the year I might have lost around 25 kilos and that would be great. I can then look at another 25 for the following year. It is so important to me to be able to eat well and lose without suffering, and keto is doing that for me.

Anytime someone says they aren’t losing weight or stalling my first questions is to ask if they eat preshredded cheese, sugar-free candy, prepackaged “low-carb” snacks. Maltitol and maltodextrin will raise your blood sugar as bad as regular white sugar. Read your labels carefully and know how to find hidden carbs. Even sugar-free jello is off limits if you want to stay in ketosis.

(Ken) #17

That is a response of Metabolic Ignorance. Remember, the context of this thread is breaking plateau or stall. Having some carbs, even to the point of going into Maintenance for a short period is merely a Tool. Having 1400g of carbs divided into a day or two will come no where near to refilling your Glycogen.

“ONLY” 14lbs?

Also, unfortunately the carb thing doesn’t keep working. It does for some unknown reason at first but in years I’ve never seen it keep working for people.

(Ken) #19

It depends on how often you do it. It has worked for me for about 20 years.now. As.well as for people I’ve instructed.

#21

WHAT? 1400g will refill you ALL DAY LONG! I say that as somebody with a decent amount of muscle and more places to stick it. I’m curious what you’re using as a gauge for that? Even on a legit “refeed” it doesn’t take anywhere near that amount. If you were into lifting you’d be VERY aware of when the glycogen was there and when it wasn’t. Do that for a couple years and you become very in tune with how much carbs it takes to refill yourself. I eat more carbs than many keto’rs and I do carb cycles weekly but holy crap 1400g is a complete carb binge all day long.
