Pizza Burgers

(Genevieve Biggs) #1

My Dear Husband is now beginning his fourth week of keto for life. He loves burgers, and he loves pizza. I put them together to save the trouble of making fathead, and he loved it so much he now wants it almost daily. So here is my recipe. (Sorry if my pictures are not as beautiful as @Fiorella’s)

Ingredients:
Ground beef (I use 80% because that’s what I have)
Pizza sauce (I buy the cleanest lowest carb one I can find, but it has to be pizza sauce, not any marinara)
Parmesan (or cheese of choice)
Pizza seasoning This is a must. Any will do.
Butter, or preferred cooking fat

Part One: Patties
The key is that these are thin patties. To get them thin enough they need to be 2oz. So first weigh out as much beef as you need for the number of patties you want. Hubby wanted three tonight, so here’s 6 glorious ounces of beef.

Then, spread out the beef enough to sprinkle on 1-1.5 tbsp of pizza seasoning. I also add some table seasoning and salt. And then knead it until the spice is evenly mixed in.

Divide it out into as many patties as you want – approximately 2oz each. Pound them as thin as you can with your palms, ending about 4-5 inches in diameter. It’s okay if they are oddly shaped.

Part Two: Making Pizza

Once patties are formed, heat a small nonstick pan with butter. Butter is essential. DH only wants his burgers made with butter, but if you prefer another fat, go ahead. You want it to be as hot as you can get it without the butter smoking.

Once it is hot, gingerly remove the burgers from your cutting board with a thin spatula and place it in the pan. For here it gets time sensitive, so never leave the stove. Pay attention. Don’t cook it more than a minute on this side, because it needs to cook longer once flipped for the sauce to heat and the cheese to melt. This is why the pan must be hot.

After 30-60 seconds, flip the burger. Add a tbsp or so of pizza sauce, according to taste.

Then add enough cheese to cover the top, and add an extra sprinkle of pizza seasoning.

Cover with a lid for about a minute so the sauce can heat and the cheese melts.

Then remove first patty to a plate, and cover it with a different lid so the cheese can continue to melt while you cook the other burgers.

Repeat for all patties until done. Stack each party on the previous to melt cheese and keep it hot. Once completed, enjoy!! DH likes his with JJ peppers.

Looks very tasty.

We make a "hamburger pizza in much the same fashion only we press the “burger dough” into a casserole dish, Cover with sauce and toppings of choice and bake in the oven. Serves the whole family without all of the labor of individual servings.

Yum! I’ll have to keep that in mind for when kiddies come round.

Thank you for sharing. Yum.

We do something similar, but in the frying pan on the stove. We brown the ground beef with salt and pepper, add the tomato sauce, then toppings. We divide it into servings when it’s done cooking. Yum!
