What a fantastically informative episode and addition motivation to stay away from the nut and seed oils. Bad oil with too much omega 6.

One of the LCHF principles is to eat whole foods and stop the Junk. I have done that. For example don’t eat salad dressings out or at home and just use Olive oil and I don’t eat processed foods for the most part. Do pork rinds count? I do eat them.

We cook with olive oil, avocado oil, butter and the natural fat in meat. According to my PCP, my internal markers for inflammation are reduced. No disease for the last 3 years with carbs <50g and minimal junk. Now I’m on <20g and zero junk since mid-June and feeling even better.

I like meat and fish (salmon, and some white fishes) and I eat sardines as well somedays for Omega 3.

I do like chicken and the reference above has a lot of Omega 6 in chicken. Oh and in peanut butter as well. Damn.

Do you all pay attention to Omega 6 intake in foods like chicken and peanuts?

Does anyone have a good reference for the kinds of fats in foods and oils?

I’m wondering how strict I should be on the Omega 3 and 6 ratio targets.

My concern with omega 6 avoidance basically ends with “vegetable” oils and processed food avoidance. People have eaten cured meats for thousands of years. Poultry and pork for much longer. The rise in inflammation and disease is really since the time when the world moved away from saturated fat and embraced mass quantities of soybean oil.

I don’t spend a lot of time worrying about it other than using good fats in my cooking and not eating a ton of packaged food.

I have been eating lunch out lately, and I do notice some signs of inflammation, so will have to make greater efforts to cook for the work week at home on the weekend. I suspect it’s the hot wing fryer oil that is inflaming me.

FWIW I don’t spend a lot of time worrying about the omega 6 content in chicken, nuts or other whole foods. I don’t eat them every day & I’m aware that some people choose to avoid them but much like @LeCheffre as long as I’m not downing the oils or eating highly processed foods I’m at peace with it.
