Ok, Mikki made me do it, first fast has begun

(John) #1

I have been hesitant to do a fast, just being a wimp, but after reading her post, and being 14 hours in already I might as well see if I can go for a bit.

Nothing really going this weekend so no dinners to watch out for or anything, but also not a lot to do other than think about food…

Plan is to have my BPCs and electrolytes and that’s it. I figure if I post it and whine about it here I am more likely to actually do it.

Lol. Awesome. You gotta try these things right? Get yourself a box set or something.

#3

Thinking about food or social situations is usually the hardest part for me, and this is definitely where I need the most work in my fasting muscles, so I sympathize.

Good luck!

i haven’t eaten so i’m still with you

i think distraction is a great tool…do stuff…go for a walk, clean out something that you’ve been putting off…(now i’m an expert? :joy:) but in all seriousness when i was doing nothing was when i was like “maybe i should eat”

you quit smoking you totally got this!

(John) #5

Wait wait wait…Scotch doesn’t count right? Even if it’s single barrel?

Water fast, fat fast, Scotch Fast, I like it.

(John) #6

So I have to not eat and clean? Did my wife put you up to this?

(Michelle) #7

There was the drinking man’s diet at one point!! That may make a comeback.

Good luck on your fast!! You can do it.

(John) #8

Success already! I have been 200-205 for the last 2 months despite losing some inches, I decided to get a starting weight for this thing in case it lasts longer than 16 hours and I was 199. Last confirmed sighting of 1xx was 1999 oddly enough.

/me sings 1999

Congrats making it to onederland!

At the 18 hour mark I have heard a lot about, a little hunger but fortunately my wife reminded me I have an event to go to at my daughters school that is serving food we already paid for. If it is the stromboli they served in school i’m gonna have to break it!

Just got up from a solid 8 hours, no more hungry than usual. I usually start with a couple BPC and don’t eat until noon or so, just trying black coffee for now. Downloaded the Dr. Fung book on fasting to read while I went. I’m really hoping I have the willpower to go another day, everywhere I read seems to say the hunger magically goes away and I want to see what that’s like.
I’ve been “hungry” near constantly with occasional waves of pretty strong cravings but I recognize them as very similar to cigarette cravings when I quit, and carb cravings when I started keto so I think it is 100% a mental thing and i’m not giving in for now.

Supposed to get a new bike today and won’t be able to help going on a long ride, burning 1-2k more calories might put some strain on me but we’ll see.

34 hours down.

I might be able to do that fast - BPC, water and Scotch!

60 hours in, still going. Slept really, really hard again last night, hard to wake up this morning. Yesterday I got a little hungry at 11 and 5 which are about my normal meal time but went away soon enough, right at the 48 hour mark was probably my hungriest, but it was bed time so I got to sleep it off. I had a diet root beer last night, was craving that for some reason and 8 oz of bone broth, that was all.

Groggy and not clear headed this morning, sipping on coffee with a tablespoon of MCT oil so maybe that will help.
Altogether this has been way easier than I thought it would be, even made dinner for the fam and popcorn for movie night without really feeling too hungry. I got and started reading the Dr. Fung fast book and I think I will change it up going forward and implement a 5:2 on occasion or maybe a day on/day off. It never once occurred to me, maybe because not eating didn’t occur to me, that if you wanted to eat at a deficit it is easier to not eat for a day than it is to cut 250 cal a day for 7 days.

Other than that, 1.5 pounds down on the scale. I think I only have about 15 pounds to lose, maybe 20 so 10% of that in one shot isn’t bad. Wife asked when I was gonna eat again, I said I don’t know, when I feel like I need to eat I guess. I don’t think that will be today though. I want to keep this going though, so I think I will try to transition to fat and protein around 600 cal for a day or 2 before jumping back into 1,800. Oh and my bowels are not happy with me starving them.

(eat more) #15

go you!!! :fire: :boom: :raised_hands:

yesterday i thought “man i felt way better not eating than i do today…maybe i should fast on super busy days” which is the opposite of what i thought before jumping in the fasting pool.

you rock!

(John) #16

Yeah doing this on the weekend seems harder, making food for people 3 meals a day. At least with work I have 10 hours or so of not thinking about/smelling food.

(eat more) #17

i think it’s way way more of a mental challenge than anything else!
i sort of “fasted” yesterday because i was so busy.

i did get a little fuzzy-headed, stomach grumbly, and tired at times…prob would have been different if i hadn’t had more than bpc before work and my brain had been in the not eating mindset…
i felt like i for sure needed to eat and just couldn’t…would have been 1000x worse pre keto tho

you’re killing it!
i also had a few close friends that kept asking me when i was going to eat again and my answer was also “i don’t know” :joy:

#18

Same where with close family when I mention that I’m not eating, you’d think I was holding a gun to my head, but that’s their CICO, sugar-burner mentality. :bmh:

(eat more) #19

one of the friends was asking questions part horror, part intrigue
she has been “doing keto” (quotes because i know a lot of ppl that claim keto but aren’t really keto…it’s super trendy right now lol)
she said she might give it a shot after she’s off a round of antibiotics

I would have never considered it before, I would go eat at my favorite Thai place and be stuffed, 30 minutes later I feel like I didn’t eat anything and go hunting an afternoon snack. I would have had a hard time skipping a meal, much less all of them. Near the end, before keto I would eat a big bowl of cereal, sugar would crash and an hour later I’m at a drive through getting a sausage egg and cheese biscuit. Lunch 2 hours later followed by a snack, a handful of chips while I made dinner, then dessert. I was always eating but always hungry. I had a moment like, I think it was Richard where I ate all you can eat Indian food and ate literally all i could, and I was still hungry though the thought of another bite was nauseating.
