Kid coming to visit in 2 weeks so I need to get the fresh sheets on the bed, sweep/mop the basement, clean the guest bath and make some goat’s milk soap with my new mold that arrived today. Gotta stay busy !!!
Oh - and I will be in Houston for the next 2 weeks so if I don’t get the guest room ready before I leave it won’t be ready for when they get there!
Every time I get past the 48 hour mark I wonder why I ever eat because I feel so effing good. However, like clockwork 70 hours rolls around and I dream up some stoneresque variation of an omelette that cannot be ignored.
Longest I’ve gone is 120 hours. First four days I felt like crap then suddenly felt amazing on the fifth day which scared me so I had food
Mental clarity during fasting, yes. Number on the scale goes down but only temporarily. Ketone levels go way up to over 7mmol and blood glucose drops to below 3mmol, but beyond these effects I don’t notice any differences so just hope the autophagy is doing it’s thing. I do like the freedom and convenience of not having to waste time on food though.
Haha @Kris86 I literally woke up thinking about omelettes! I was musing 5 eggs, butter, chorizo, Mozzarella, Portobello mushrooms all folded into a lovely eggy pocket!
I’ve reached the 36 hour mark. The scales have dropped by a kilo, I am officially my lowest weight of 2017/2018 though.
I did an Epsom Salt flush at the start of yesterday to cleanse myself prior to this so assume food waste is most of that loss figure.
I feel “ok” just a bit wierd really. My extremities are like ice though. I was getting cross examined by my father on this yesterday, if I’m to make it to 48, I need to be left alone really.
He was voicing his concern towards me doing this last night at 8pm whilst making himself a massive pile of sandwiches - the irony.
@Shortstuff - it’s interesting what you say about the weight loss being temporary, surely if glycogen is depleted already from being keto, if you introduce keto foods again post fast, water weight gain wouldn’t be a thing would it?
12 hrs and don’t really count it yet even though I started my Vora app last night. I say that because I haven’t gone past my normal eating window yet.
That’s the upside to these short fasts - I only have to skip 2 meals and really fast for 8 hours - noon to 8 pm. I usually am ready for bed by 8 when fasting.

104 hours for me, so 4.3 days. Could have easily gone more and would definitely extended to a full 5 days if I hadn’t had a party to go to that Friday evening and a 4-hr drive there starting at noon.
So… didn’t want any break-fast accidents on the road or at the party so I broke it at breakfast that Fri morning. No issues but wanted to be sure.
As for benefits… I love the mental clarity I get from fasting. Also doing it for autophagy since I am not young and have some loose skin I would like to loose and it seems to be working. It is a slow process and may take a couple of years but that’s ok.

The loose skin? Yes, mine is sloooooowly tightening up and I don’t work out.
I am also a cancer survivor - 10 years cancer-free now - and statistically my risk of recurrence is much higher than the general population. I am hoping there is autophagy magic going on internally that I cannot see or measure that is keeping me in a healthier state.
ETA: if I had it to do over I would have had the tumor removed and then fasted instead of having the follow-up radiation.
I don’t understand it either, always lose the same 4 or 5lbs but regain it all within a couple of weeks.
That is my experience in maintenance too. I drop it fast, a 36 hr. fast will see the dip, but over the next few days, it comes back. I stay under my original goal weight, after a 1.5 yrs in maintenance I have only been over by lb. pound on two days. But I do not see any permanent shift, no matter how strictly keto my refeeds are or for that matter how lazy keto I eat after a fast. Guess I have found my Phinney weight, as it is easy-peasy to stay within my range and I love all the foods I get to eat on this WOE.
I’m in hr. 14 of a 36 hr. fast with black coffee, salt, and water only. I want to see if that makes a difference, my other fasts, I used hwc in coffee and occasionally a cup of bone broth.
Hope you get on OK @collaroygal. I feel a lot better fasting with just water and salted black coffee, fatty coffees really don’t start me off well.
Same here. Hour 15 for me now and only water, black coffee and salt for 36 hours.
Had the weirdest thought while on my AM walk after my coffee and water only. My brain told me “run”. I have not ever had that thought in my adult life, because of boob bounce, but I remained calm and declined.
I like to work on picking up heavy things, but I never enjoyed running even as a child. I’ll stick to my hilly and mnt. walks/hikes. But I did feel energized, maybe the cream blocks some of that feeling?
I am highly motivated to continue on today. It is near my feeding window time when I IF, and I don’t feel like I want anything at all. Normally, I’d be thinking of what to have for lunch but not today.
Seems like this way of fasting suits you better too

I learned by trying to stop my constant battles with constipation. Colon cancer runs in my family, so I need to make sure nothing hangs around in my body for too long of a time. What I do is not what everyone should be doing.
I can do up to 1200 mg of magnesium without any danger of disaster pants. It just smooths things out for me. My husband can look at that amount and have to run to the toilet. Most guides lines I was seeing on the internet said <600 mg is average needed, no more than 800 mg. I found I needed more, much more.
I just make keto aide be adding 2 T ACV, 1 T. of pink salt, 1/4 t. mag powder and a pinch of Potassium Citrate as well, less than an 1/8 t. to 20 oz. of sparkling water, if I have it, if not plain water. I also add it to any shakes I make just for me, again my husband can not handle much at all, I also have just added 1/4 t. to vinegar and oil and eaten it on a salad with that simple dressing.
