@Ketodaisy you pictures are just spectacularly mouth watering. I like your nice big board too.

Awww so sorry to hear about poor Ethel, @SecondBreakfast. Very sad indeed. Glad your hubby could get you some good wild game to help cheer you up though.

@Alex_PN sorry to hear about your gym, hope you can find an alternative. Do you normally do weights when you go or something different?

@KellynP welcome back from your trip with your folks, glad it went well.

Hey there @Kismet and @Karnivore, I am very new to ZC and just jumped in on the Oct thread right at the end. Let’s see how awesome this month can be for all of us that are newish to giving ZC a go!

I am feeling much better than I was a few days ago, the nausea, headache and general feeling like garbage-ness has left me. I just finished a big run of night duties two hours ago, I can feel way shabbier than I do now after a big run of nights, so life is good.
Just ate 2x rump steaks with some butter for breakfast, followed by ā€˜dessert’ of a chunk of grana padano that I nibbled on like a mouse. About to tuck into bed and punch out some zzzz’s. Weird thing is I HATE going to bed at night time with a full belly, but find it helpful to get better sleep if I am full before going for a day sleep. Weird.

Dinner is already planned as I know I will feel lazy when I wake up, going to pick up a rotisserie chicken, the rest of my family will have the breasts and I will get all the great darker bits of meat that they hate- yum for me. They will eat sides with their chicken, I will just delightedly gnaw on that bird.

Today was a crazy busy day helping out my parents. My brother made me crab cakes for lunch using pork rinds for the bread crumbs. They were really very tasty. Unfortunately, I have another episode of seafood not agreeing with me due to the high histamine. Ah well, steak, chicken, pork, eggs, and lamb all seem to work fine, so I still have plenty of options.

Tonight for dinner I had thin sliced roast beef warmed in homemade au jus with a fried egg on top. Oh yes, and some bacon. It was quite the tasty dinner. Maybe a little too tasty. I think I ate a little too much.

I originally made the bacon as a snack for tomorrow. I will be serving as an election officer for the first time and it will be a long day: 5 am to 9:00 pm. The bacon is for a snack. I’m trying to think of some other foods to bring, maybe some hard boiled eggs and some roast beef. Oh yes, and I can bring some of my carnivore ā€œbread.ā€
My fellow election officers will probably think I’m a little wacko,.

Hey everyone, today is Day 2!
Today I ate:

Pre-breakfast?: gouda cheese stick

Breakfast: 2 hard boiled eggs + turkey jerky stick

2nd breakfast?: 2 hamburgers

Lunch: 2 hard boiled eggs, 2 burger patties, 3 gouda cheese sticks

Snacks (in between training sessions): 2 turkey jerky sticks and 1 gouda stick

Dinner (we ate out): 3 fillets of salmon :yum: and diet coke :slightly_frowning_face: and a little bit of black coffee (omg it was good)

I drank seltzer, diet coke :(, and black coffee.

I did drink (a lot) of diet coke today at the restaurant, but tomorrow I can get back on track. The black coffee at that restaurant was pretty good, so maybe next time I can replace the diet coke with the coffee. I seriously need to kick this. It’s so sweet and good, but…sigh.

(Karnivore) #64

Yes indeed! Today I slipped up by drinking (lots) of diet coke…and it was a conscious decision…but reading that sentence really inspired me! Thank you.

Maybe I should eat… I said I would keep myself scarce. But yet here I am. I actually try to do Carni as best I can… But i do add plant stuff too. I’ll just be honest. :flushed:. I have done full Carni… I’ve done keto… I’ve had breaks in between… hospital and what not. @Shinita I can relate. Not everybody is the same we are all different bodies and what works perfect for some may not work for others.. I must admit that I do very much enjoy mushrooms and onion, it adds flavor to meat… eggs… bacon… I love my condiments… like I love sour cream. But yeah, wgen I used nothing but I got bored.:upside_down_face:. I had turkey balls yesterday…:see_no_evil::joy_cat::joy_cat::joy_cat::joy_cat: ( NO people, not THOSE type of balls :flushed:). Minced balls… STILL sounds bad. Oh well… Well It seems I’m all or nothing. I either burn them… or make them too undercooked. They were horrible.:see_no_evil:. I couldn’t do it… wish I had a cat or dog to eat my failures. Me and the kitchen… I can cook, I learnt early. BUT being sick, weak and tired… I just been shocking. I just throw it all together. I’m on this new medication that has lowered my damn appetite and somehow my tastebuds are numb… food is not as tasty… I hope it passes.i still eat, but it’s just not as exciting. Like it feels a chore. Stupid pills.. I can’t believe it’s November and I don’t know what to expect. But in December it his SO hot in Australia… I cannot handle heat…AT ALL… And normally in Summer all I crave is cold fruits… so it’s hard. Cherry season esoecially because I always loved them… yet in hospital… I always passed on the sugars… The potato and bread I ate… But sometimes ate too slow or went walkabout and the tray got taken away. So I stashed stuff in my draw for later… sandwiches and cheese and crackers. But once I had a midnight stroll to the vending machine… didn’t want lollys. So got chips. Hey, what could I do. Lol :see_no_evil:. Melbourne cup today here… So everyone is like celebrating and betting ect… I have a cokd or flu or something. So I’m just a zombie… or a mummy… still in Halloween mode I guess. I’m rambling. I’ll just stop.

A good month to start carnivore, eh? At work today (used retail store that sells donations, and ā€œbenefitsā€ Diabetes Canada through paying them for our donations…ironic how most of the workers have MetSyn ) we received a ā€œdonationā€ of TWO boxes of Nestle halloween candy :joy: And for a split moment, my mind was ā€œooh, niceā€ and started choosing which ones I’d eat later… WTF?!? That thought was thrown out the window right as I tossed them in the garbage.:poop::100: :innocent: We are not allowed to sell such food, or any food at all. Like, what ā€œused foodā€?!?:rofl::rofl:

oh no you can do any type of low carb plan that suits you obviously
I worded myself wrong on that and sorry cause you said carnivore mimics fasting and it does not and I said that, so you were drawing a conclusion about what carnivore plan is all about when not doing the plan to actually understand what it does for us. I meant that about carni mimics fasting, sorry if that came across wrong how I worded it. So I meant that if one wants to comment on what carnivore is then they need to do the plan to know what it truly is.

Never feel confused, you are doing your thing and seeing how you are arrange your eating lifestyle. Many of us had to do that. But for me with my type of personality, I have to say when I ā€˜go into a plan’ and want to see changes and benefits that I hear about from those on that plan, I would commit all in and be very focused. I wouldn’t come into a plan knowing I would be going off that plan in a month. It sounds more like you are experimenting around and I sure get that. You might be one of those people who can easily do carni for whatever time, jump back into carbs and do just as fine for a good time til you want to change up your eating again. See I can not do that. One reason I hold very strict zc to me. I think you and I sure come across ā€˜starting a lifestyle change’ from different directions and strengths we will put into it.

I think it will be great to see how you do on your trial run. I want to hear your report on how carnivore treated you and if you feel changes and more. Experiments on ourselves is how we move forward and find our path and what suits us.

I saw you said you came in at 15 carbs? I take it you tracked zero carb foods and it was that high from cheese? or something? All animal protein carbs mean nothing so we don’t have to track at all, but I know you track cause you enjoy tracking. Just curious when I saw a count that high on zero carb.

food yesterday was

12 oz NY strip steak
2 chicken breasts
tin of sardines
2 beef sticks

Nothing stellar in the food dept.

Got my food prepped and ready for my trip. RV camping at a lake. Rest, relax, fish, kayak, hike, goof off, take a nap

I truly need a trip. Going a bit bonkers with just life stress in general thru the weird times we are living. NEED a change of scenery to rebalance me LOL Believe me they help me alot. I love with the RV I ā€˜social distance’ anyway and bring my home with me, no hotel situations so it makes me very doable without going on a trip and being stressed out more from that trip HA

Leave later today and head out. Just have to finish packing some blankets and stuff into the rv and away we go.

Got zc covered tightly. Love the RV situation cause I have a full kitchen and fridge and of course the good ol’ trusted grill that will be grilling up my steaks

Sounds like everyone is doing ok thru NoCarbvember. No carbs…it is exactly what my lifestyle requires

off to get moving a bit and getting some stuff handled here.

I absolutely get this B. But this IS a zero carb carnivore thread challenge LOL We can’t be talking eating mushrooms and plants and all. Anyone can do bounce with lc, keto plan, caveman plan, paleo, into carnivore and back out if they want, but this is not what the thread is about. The focus is zc ya know. Why we are on the thread, trying to balance ourselves on this plan and make it work for us and not against us. Why we band together for support to hold the zc plan. Then see if it suits a person or not and how they want to proceed with whatever plan might suit them. Newer people are still finding their way, but someone like me, I am carnivore for years now. I think alot of times we are on different time schedules on a plan and a newer person is still deciding and seeing changes and walking this plan, whereas an old timer like me on plan for years is just here ya know, doesn’t have to make a decision like ā€˜will this plan suit me?’ cause it does suit me

Hey B where are you? You at home now cooking  I hope so, failures on cooking or not if you are home then it has to be wonderful for you! I hope you are not still in hospital?

sorry the meds they got ya on are taking your taste away. I know I would not like that one bit. Taste is a key thing. I hope that goes away or ya get off that stuff sooner than later. Wishing you super well!

If you are eating this way, are still trying to eat 70-80% fat? I find it incredibly difficult to get all the fat in without eating nuts and dairy. If you eat only meat, isn’t that way too much protein? I’m trying to understand this process. Thanks!

(Edith) #71

Yup. I totally understand about the Diet Coke. I have an emotional addiction to it. I tried last month to give it up. I was mostly successful, but I did have a few slip ups. This month I’m trying for 100% compliance.

(Edith) #72

Just eat fatty cuts of meat. You don’t have to tons of extra fat.

(Alex ) #73

I’ve got a bike and some freeweights at home, so yeah something combining the two probably!

(Alex ) #74

I didnt post anything last night, but I had two burgers, bacon and two poached eggs! I then got hungry later and just had some cold cuts of pork! actually went to bed and had one of the best sleeps ever!

(Alex ) #75

and the burgers are zero carb!

#76

Commercial meat really just isn’t that fat anymore. It’s difficult to even find 70/30 hamburger. Steaks are all lean. It’s not easy. And I find that if I don’t eat enough fat, or if I eat too much protein, I’m not satisfied and I have cravings. I’m not doing no-carb, BTW. I’m just interested in what you guys do.

(Alex ) #77

You need some of my belly pork!

#78

I’m not a big fan of pork in general and I don’t like bacon or pork belly. That does make sense, though.

#79

the right cuts have alot of fat. ribeye and buy pork cuts with a fat cap on them instead of trimmed. I can easily get 70/30 ground beef but actually alot of zero carb people don’t do ā€˜so well’ on rendered ground beef fat. Of course you can add some suet, tallow, butter when cooking your meats if wanted.

since you are not eating this way, to me it is the carbs you are eating from plants or maybe sweeteners? not sure on how you eat, but when one dumps all of them, our meat/seafood/fish truly supports us in fine shape.

here is a long read but this is what we are:

A quick overview of some Zero Carb Carnivore Diet FAQ.

  1. FOOD: What do you eat: Anything from the Animal Kingdom (meat, poultry, eggs, cheese, HWC)

For a weekly menu suggestion: See a Sample 1 week zero carb carnivore menu plan here.

  1. QUANTITY: How much do you eat: as much and as often as you want. No limit. Too little will sabotage your efforts.

  2. ADAPTATION: normally takes 30 days, but can last for a couple of months: fatigue, nausea, headaches, cramps, light headedness, heart palpitations, intense thirst. Your body is changing from sugar burning to fat burning.

  3. How soon can I expect HEALING: as long as it takes. It didn’t take you only 30 days to feel this way, right?

When my husband tells me how long a project will take I automatically count that it will take 3x as long. Expect that it will take you 3x as long as you think it will take to heal. Then you might be pleasantly surprised.

  1. BEEF: Grass-fed or Grain-finished: it doesn’t matter to us what you eat. Whatever you like and can afford.

  2. LIVER?: No, it’s not a miracle cure. Again, eat the meat you like. Don’t force yourself to eat it, if you have never liked it, thinking it will help the healing go faster.

  3. MACROS: why bother? Meat has exactly the right ratio of everything for you. No counting calories, macros, points, etc.

ZERO CARB is the absence of plants. Everything we eat has traceable carbs. But the minuscule carbs in meat or dairy is handled differently by the body and doesn’t cause the diseases that plant carbs cause. We don’t count those trace animal carbs.

  1. POOP: No fiber needed. Rule of thumb: Too much fat= diarrhea.

Too lean= constipation.

Don’t expect to ā€œgoā€ every day. Every 3 or 4 days is normal.

  1. WEIGHT LOSS: this is all about hormones, not food. Anyone can lose weight by restricting, but it’s not sustainable.

Obesity and being Under weight is Internal Starvation. Malnourished.

Focus instead, on your body: joints, aches and pains, skin, sleep, energy, digestion, vision, bowel habits, libido: all of these will improve on ZC, without the scale moving.

Measure yourself instead of using the scale. So many report little weight loss, but significant clothing size difference.

Once your hormones are agreeing with each other and are happy, you will lose weight. Some lose weight quickly, others struggle.

  1. HIGH PROTEIN Diet: No. It a high fat/medium protein diet. If you look on the label of meat, it may show more grams of protein than fat forcing you to mistakenly conclude that meat is high in protein. Protein contains 4 calories per gram and fat contains 9 calories per gram.

  2. SIGNS OF HUNGER: Fatigue, sadness, melancholy, mood swings, tiredness, muscle weakness, carb cravings, thinking of carbs. Not having cravings does not mean you are not hungry. In the early days of ZC, fix some meat at breakfast, lunch and dinner, try a bite or two. If you don’t want it, fine, save it for later.

  3. SUPPLEMENTS: not needed. Meat has everything you need. We save money by not taking any, so save your money.

It’s best not to fiddle around with supplements as they can cause problems of their own, and can hinder Adaptation.

Potassium: what we don’t need is excreted through our urine. The Maasai, and the Siberian Reindeer people have survived for many thousands of years without any Potassium supplements.

The science is done on people eating a grain based diet, is not relevant to us.

Magnesium: Meat is a rich source of magnesium. No need to add more via a supplement.

Vitamin C: 1 lb beef has 10 mg Vit C.

USDA assumes there isn’t any. New research finds that adding a small amount of milk and meat to the diet dramatically improves the supply of nutrients — specifically protein, calcium, zinc, iron, vitamin A, B2, B12, and D.ā€

Eat meat, leave the milk alone.

  1. CRAMPS: part of Adaptation. Some things you have to endure. You aren’t missing electrolytes, you are adapting. Some find eating more helps. Some find soap at the foot of the bed helps. Supplements or adding salt to water is not advised. Let your body sort out the mess you have made.

  2. SCURVY?: Fresh meat prevents scurvy.

  3. Intermittent Fasting: We do not fast.

IF Definition: ā€œIntermittent Fasting (IF) is an umbrella term for various diets that cycle between a period of fasting and non-fasting during a defined period. IF can also be used with calorie restriction for weight loss.ā€

Fasting Definition: ā€œFasting is a willing abstinence or reduction from some, or all food, drink or both for a period of time.ā€

KEY WORDS: willing abstinence.

We eat when hungry. We don’t eat when not hungry. That’s not fasting. That’s just not being hungry.

Thank you for this. I’m thinking of eliminating supplements. I eat between 10-20 g net carbs per day. Some of this (about 8 g) comes from some lettuces that I eat each day and a handful of berries or cherry tomatoes that I eat each day. I eat meat, butter, ghee, nuts, cheese and sour cream.

I have been eating strict KETO for 6 months and it’s working very well for me. I may, eventually, go carnivore, but am not willing to take that step yet. I’m just interested in getting information.

I will start measuring. Something I should have done from the start. But it’s easy to ā€œmeasureā€ as my clothes don’t fit anymore. I still use the scale, but only a few times per month work well for me.

I find that not eating my first meal until after noon makes me feel good. I used to always eat breakfast, but that doesn’t work well for me.

Good info.
