I started Keto Jan 28, 2019 and it seems like I have seen VERY little improvement. I am pretty disappointed, it seems like everyone who starts this journey has a drastic weight change in the beginning and I have not seen that in my situation. My clothes is not any tighter but there has not been a drastic weight loss which is really depressing.
I am 37 y/o, sedentary job/lifestyle, 5’3 and 173 lbs… no I have not seen the scale go down. Any tips please?
No progress
That’s your first mistake, assuming you will see the same progress as someone else.
Have you had any weight loss at all?
There is generally a drop off between intial water weight loss, and then actual fat loss. We call this the PISS period, post induction stall syndrome.
We can’t really give much advice without additional information.
What do your macros look like?
How many calories a day are you eating?
Can you give us more of an outline on what you are eating etc?
Hi, I am also following this. I definitely agree that different bodies have different progress states. So maybe trying some specific routines and nutrition guides might be helpful.
Hi and welcome to the forum,
Tweaking is definitely par for the course. We’ve all had to tweak this or that. It’s amazing how small things can make a massive difference.
To help you pin point the issue we need to know all the stuff - food, amounts, …, any medication or medical condition. Any thyroid function tests lately? Iron definciency? All the usuals.
Are you tracking the 20g carbs accurately?
Most improvements won’t be noticed on a scale. Some of my greatest keto gifts are:
Stamina
Motivation
Patience
Energy
Control of what and when I eat
An understanding of how my hunger is supposed to work
Even if I didn’t lose a single pound, eating LCHF is worth it to me for all of those reasons because I am no longer surviving life… I am living it.
Having said that, if you are doing keto the right way, you are most likely healing your body, your damaged metabolism and all its complicated hormones. This takes a month or longer in some people and there are a number of variables that can complicate the process like degree of insulin resistance, stress, medications, medical conditions, eating too much or too little, eating too many carbs, using artificial sweeteners, not getting enough electrolytes, age and sex.
This and how does what you are eating affect your hunger and cravings?
The 1st month I only lost 4 pounds while my hubby lost 10. It didnt really start coming off for me until week 7. I recommend taking body measurements to see if you’re losing size versus pounds. If you are pretty sedentary maybe try to add some extra movement, even if it is park far away from the store or take the stairs. I agree your body is doing repair and it may take time to adjust.
Try a carb tracking app and ensure you are eating enough fat. Keep trying and give your body some time. If you view it as a lifestyle change you wont be so frustrated with the results.
You can’t judge your weight loss by the loss of others. Most people you are seeing lose 20lbs or more a month are usually quite a lot larger than you! You have less to lose so your not going to lose it as fast. Your body is adjusting let it do it’s thing it will figure it out!
