Hi there, I’m a newbie…8 days in and feeling jus lost in the carb free sauce. I’ve done Atkins before and have been pretty much gluten-free/sugar free for years. Eating meat, cheese and veggies comes easy. Counting portions to plug into myfitnesspal and ensure that the nutrition is calculated is daunting. I’m just having a really hard time understanding the macros, if the macros I have are correct, and keeping to the macro ratios especially the carbs. 1 leaf of romaine takes a carb, my coffee is 1 carb, unsweetened almond milk 1 carb, and before I know it, I’m one salad away from using up all the carbs for the day. So, I’m wondering if anyone who’s been at it for a bit and uses myfitnesspal to document their food daily would want to be my buddy. On the website/app you can share so I can see what you eat and you see mine and we support each other. Also good for sharing recipes, I hope? Many thanks, Adrienne
Newbie wants Oldie buddy who tracks on myfitnesspal or other app?
Are counting total carbs or net carbs? Net carbs is when you take the total carbs and then subtract the amount of fiber. Anyone correct me if I’m wrong…I think a lot of us here count net carbs. I know I do.
Here is a really good video that shows you how to use MyFitnessPal to count carbs and macros:
I do total carbs and I use MFP but I only track 2 or 3 days a week just to make sure I’m where I need to be. The rest of the days I just eat when I’m hungry and don’t if I’m not. I always mind my carbs though!
Oh amargolis you just saved me and now makes a whole lot more sense. I’ve been reading Dr. Josh Axe etc…about keto and the amount of veggies (fiber) wasn’t adding up. Now that I look back over the past 8 days, I was under 20 grams and or just above some days. So, net carbs makes sense and more importantly nutrient dense. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I shall eat more greens
I have used MFP and found a lot of inaccuracies in it. Maybe try cronometer. I like it better by comparison. It also has more detailed micronutrient tracking, which I like as I’m a data junkie.
I made a couple of sacrifices when I needed to cut the carbs and one of them was to get used to tea without milk. I wanted my carbs for food rather than drinks. I have weak tea or herbal tea so that made it easier in the long run. I was using skim/low fat milk at 4.8gC/100ml.
I am JojoV1977 on there. My diary is open and I have recorded my past 16 months of keto eating in there.
You could use hwc and not pay in too many carbs or unsweetened cashew milk.
Anything low fat, reduced fat or skim will have lots of sugar added for flavor and lots of carbs.
I don’t use any other milks and happy to go without for now. I prefer to use my carbs judiciously. When I checked all of the differnt milks at the supermarket yesterday (I live in NZ) mostof them had added brown rice. Decided to give them a miss. If I want milky looking black tea (not herbal) I will use cream.
