New here 1 week and wanted to say hi

(Dayna Humphrey) #1

Hi,
Just wanted to introduce myself. I am really glad to be here and hoping get some guidance on what seems to be information overload and hopefully find a support system.

I am 42 yrs old with 90 lbs to lose. I am 5 days in and the last two days I have felt better than I have in years. I have lost 3 lbs but I feel so much lighter. I am learning to listen to my body ques and to stop eating when my body says I have had enough. It’s almost like a great big stop sign that’s hard to miss. This is new for me. So far I love the changes in just a few days. I cant wait to see how I feel at 30 days.

I do have have one question for now. I have become addicted to coffee the past 5 days. I drink 5 cups a day with 5 tbsp of heavy cream. 3 in the morning and 2 late afternoon. This going to slow my progress?? Or can I continue to use this as my crutch as I adjust?

What a treat drinking coffee with cream is! I drink about 4 cups a day, love it! You need fat for this to work, so don’t worry about it! It shouldn’t slow your progress, the only time it might is later on when you’re fat adapted (about 6-8 weeks, but varies) if you decide to start fasting it can stop the autophagy benefits, but I still use it as a crutch when fasting, & the weight still comes off. A lot of people have a bulletproof coffee in the morning with butter etc. as well in it! But don’t think about fasting or cutting calories for now, fine if you’re not hungry, but don’t not eat if you are hungry. Sounds like you’re doing very well already, good luck!

I tablespoon of cream in one coffee sounds a lot to me. I pour HWC into my coffee, and I add about 1.5 teaspoons of cream, and that does the job perfectly. I’m not saying don’t do a tablespoon each time, but do you need a tbsp?

(bulkbiker) #4

I have started to have 2 tablespoons in each of mine… tastes great.

(Alec) #5

“Would you like some coffee with your cream, sir?”:rofl:

(bulkbiker) #6

I have a triple shot Americano 400 ml a time… so for a pint of coffee (ish) I think 2 tablespoons is ok?

(Alec) #7

“Of course, sir. Please let me know when you’d like your next one”.

(bulkbiker) #8

Well if you’re offering!

I put 3 tbsp in mine! Top that! LOL It’s about 18 oz of coffee though, that I add it to. I could certainly get by with less but damn it tastes good.

Hi, I am just staring out only 2 weeks into the Keto. Just wondering if you could help me out, Not sure what type of cream I djould use in my coffee. I only use full cream milk is this appropriate?.

Welcome Joe! Even full fat milk has a higher carb content than heavy cream so most of us like using heavy cream instead. (Usually called heavy whipping cream in the US.) You can use milk if it fits into your carb allotment for the day. But for the long run, it might be worth trying to get used to the taste of cream in your coffee instead.

Is it affecting your sleep? I only ask because that can stall your loss.
Also cream does have some carbs so 5TB x 5 ~? Carbs. Just make sure it fits into your macros.
This is a great way to eat and I’m excited to see your results. ( I’m 53 and just hit my 60 lb loss as of yesterday. :smirk: Doing lazy keto for 7 months now. )

(Dayna Humphrey) #13

Thanks I have noticed I am naturally decreasing the amount of cream. Think in the beginning it was to compansate for no sugar. And no it does not effect my sleep, due to my last high stress job, I am a hea y coffee drinker. :grinning:

On a side note I bought Chia seeds to make pudding for breakfast. Should of put them in the fridge last night to soak but didn’t. How long do they need to soak???

Thanks for your advice, well appreciated.

Welcome to the forums! I cant wait to see how you have done in 30 days also! Just remember if you fall down just get right back up and keep going you won’t regret it.

Welcome and good luck!

Have your coffee and cream … it’s been a lifesaver on my keto journey. I try to hold off with my first cup as long as possible, and then when I start looking for something to chew, I’ll have a cup with three heaped teaspoons of whipped cream. I have four to five cups daily and have still been able to lose 20 pounds in 4 months, which I’m happy with as I’ve only got 10 pounds to go.

If you don’t indulge with keto-friendly foods, you’re not going to stick to the eating plan. I did not focus on weight loss during month one, but rather filling up on the right foods. This made the journey so easy and once fat adspted, I just did not WANT to eat and I started cutting my intake and loosing weight without ever feeling like I was dieting.

Eventually, this led to fasting for 20 hours between meals and eating during the 4 hour window. This is when things start getting easy.

What I should mention is that I am smaller at my weight now, than I was at the same weight after conventional dieting. My pants I wore at the same weight a few years ago, are actuallt sloppy.

Don’t give up!! Stick to keto, eat the right foods when hungry (never go hungry!!) and you’ll be amazed to see and feel the changes on so many levels … physical, emotional and cognitive …

I just saw this and panicked since I do alot of heavy whipping cream. I checked mine and it says 0 carbs. Land-O-Lakes Heavy Whipping Cream, quart size.

(Robert) #18

Welcome to the forums! Don’t worry about your cream amount in the beginning. Once you get fat adapted you will naturally cut back as you need less and less to keep going. Fat is your friend in the first 4-8 weeks that it takes you to become fat adapted. It will keep your hunger at bay and get you through the day. Keep your carbs and proteins in check and the rest will handle itself. Patience is key till you get fat adapted. Keep Calm and Keto On!

Yes but it’s less than .89 they can put 0. Crazy right? (I might have that number wrong but it’s higher than .5.) So you are having basically a gram every tablespoon or 2.

(Robert) #22

So I got home this morning and I have 2 brands. One says 0 and the other says <1. I was averaging 16 tbsp of cream a day in my coffee. I drink a lot of coffee. Not anymore lol. I cut back over half to remove the incidental carbs from the cream. Thanks for posting that, I might have never realized it had carbs.
