Hey y’all! I just wanted to introduce myself since I’m new to the forums. I’ll try to make my long story short.

I hit my heaviest at 335lbs and decided to start a diet. I did my research on what would work best for me and came across keto. I’ve been full tilt since June 1st of this year and have lost 45 pounds down to 290 as of this morning, July 24. I’ve went down 3 suit sizes.

I’m keeping my carbs under 20 grams per day and total calories around 1700 while walking or going through the Couch to 5k program.

During all of my walks and driving, I’ve been able to listen to a lot of the show podcasts.

Hi Alabama, I’m in north Florida which is like being in Alabama, or Georgia. What do you coach?

Go Gators!

Welcome to the forum, Tyler =). Congrats on your 45 pound loss and 3 suit sizes so far, that is awesome!

It sounds like you are right on track and doing great, so keep up the good work. You have found the coolest forum on the net, just so you know =).

I have coached strength and conditioning, football, basketball, wrestling, and track and field. My preferences are for football and wrestling, but wouldn’t turn down being a fishing team coach.

Life got messy and hectic, so I went from playing college football at 245 and then ended up at 335.

Welcome Tyler

Congrats on your success so far.
What is your weight loss goal ?
Are you doing any fasting yet ? Do you count anything, calories or macros ? I’ve been sticking to two meals a day and trying to go 16 hours without eating between dinner or breakfast… I’ve always been a food hog so it’s kind of amazing I can go that long without eating now :slightly_smiling_face:
Anyway keep it up, and if you want an extreme opinion on something, just ask

Welcome! I’m from Alabama, too, and I recognize that helmet well. (I work on the medical side of campus.)

I started Keto on June 12th so I’m not far behind.

Your progress so far is amazing! Whatever you’re doing, keep doing it!

Thanks for the welcomes and all.

I’d like to get to about 225 before I add more proteins and fats in order to do a clean hypertrophy phase with my weightlifting.

I use CarbManager and track my macros and calories. I did use MyFitnessPal in past attempts at weight loss, but ditched it when they had the security issue, and subsequently started gaining weight again. Lol.

I’ve done a few one day fasts and haven’t found them too difficult, but usually I’ll eat a late lunch and an early dinner. I like going walking or that C25K in the mornings before I eat. I’ve read the research about exercising in a fasted state and liked the results in the study.

TimeForMe - I played football in 2006 and 2007 with Sam Hunt before starting the fishing team. I end up that way fairly regularly, I go to a lot of the UAB football games and may be taking some classes on campus for a Bioenergetics degree. I have most of the classes already from a previous degree. I shouldn’t have many classes left.

Don’t limit your calories. Studies show that calorie restriction will just cause your metabolism to slow down,

Especially in the beginning keep your calorie level up…add fat to make the difference. For some people it can take up to 6 weeks to get totally into ketosis so…provide lots of fat to teach your body how.

I’m all for tracking, and I do believe calories matter (had to learn that one the hard way) but 1700 is low man, I wouldn’t drop below the “normal” 2000/day limit ever unless you were in a cut or something. I slowed my metabolism huge from unintentional caloric restriction, I was eating to satiety and when I was hungry which is awesome when you think about it… unless your body screws you and is never hungry to the point where you slow down your metabolism. Especially at first, just eat until satisfied at your meals, you’ll need the extra fat at first anyways because until your body fat adapts it’s easier to burn dietary fat than it is stored fat. If you hit a point where you’re not making progress anymore then take another look at what your doing. At 290, your metabolism is probably VERY fast, it would need to be to keep that much dude walking around. Use that to your advantage! I was right there as well, just shy of 300lbs at my heaviest. By the time I hit around 215 the progress stopped dead for months and months, and I started gaining back, thats when I tweaked things, no doubt if I did it earlier I would probably be at my goal by now.

I have been listening during my daily runs at 5AM. Lots of good stuff I have found since going back to episode one and working my way up. A little bummed because I am running out.

Welcome, Tyler.

Congrats on your weight loss!

Just curious, what did you tweak? I started shy of 300 too, and I’m almost at the 215 mark. Thing’s are moving along nicely, but in case I hit a stall, just curious to know what you did to get things moving again.

The biggest difference came from tracking macros again, I lost most of my weight eating intuitively with fasting which screwed me and slowed down my metabolism that whole time, verified with RMR test. Once I knew how slow that piece of crap became I started from a different point (much lower than I though) and started loosing again. Still building it back up now.
