I started keto about 9 weeks ago, other than a few slip ups (3 times I purposefully went off plan) I feel like I have been “good.” I have lost 12 pounds , and I know the scale isn’t my only goal, but I have heard and seen so much more progress from a lot of other people on here and other keto pages. I don’t have a lot of pounds to get rid of (I would like to be down 30 from my starting weight) I do have hypothyroidism and am on meds. On the plus side I feel better than I have in years, joint pain has gone away, I’m full of energy and am not hungry. I do intermittent fasting on most days. I reach my macros on most days. I guess what I’m asking is… do you think I’m fat adapted, is my weight loss considered slow or normal?
Need inspiration
Everyone’s path is different because everyone is different. My path has been consistent, reasonable and for some slowish. About 5 lbs per month but some are higher some are lower. I think of it as the long game and even though I would like all fat to fall off instantly, time is required.
You may be fat adapted. You could try it out by doing a fat fast. A significant tool to consider is intermittent fasting.
Your rate of fat loss is normal. Around a pound a week is healthy. Total calculated caloric needs can be very subjective, and not necessarily accurate. It’s more important to follow a lipolytic macro and adjust your caloric intake to make sure you’re actually hungry by the next time you eat. Being hungry for a couple of hours before you eat is even better. This usually results in some type of IF, but it’s really dependant on how much you eat each time.
Focus on this. When you’re healthy, weight loss is a nice side affect that will happen when it’s supposed to.
Thank you all for your encouragement! I will stick with the plan because of the benefits and take my weight loss as it comes. I’m already practicing some IF but might dig a little deeper into the fasting.
Why? Is it good for keeping the metabolism guessing? I just finished 99 hours on Saturday. I already feel like I’m ready to go again. I felt amazing and wish I would’ve gone longer. I still have 50-60 pounds to go.
Keep going strong. It sucks so much that most people learned all the bad ways to diet, in our past. “I want results now!” My favorite part of keto is that it is so different than any diet I tried before, but sometimes that’s a double edged sword.
It sounds to me like you’re doing great!
Check out my topic “Class of 2017”. When I read your post I had to check the name to make sure it wasn’t mine!
3 month mark saw me hit 30 lbs down. It kind of accelerated after 6 weeks. I go in Friday for my 4 month nutrition appointment, can’t wait!
Hang in and keep calm and keto on!
If you have 30 pounds to lose and you have lost 12 pounds in about 2 months, your doing awesome!! Don’t necessarily worry about how fast you lose just as long as you keep losing because we are going to be eating this way for the rest of our life. (What’s the rush? What is this reno? - sorry, Troop Beverly Hills reference) But anyways, your doing awesome and more importantly, the end of the joint pain and increased energy are the real jackpots!! You seem like you have some of the positive indicators of being fat adapted; your feeling better & your losing weight!

Master: “You will know when you know”
Padawan: “But Master how…”
Master: “May the Force be with you”
I have been one with the force for a while, I’m not sure when it happened but I just stopped questioning and started listening. Every day I am in awe of how the force is changing me.
